The moral of this story is: put all of your effort into making a good movie first and save your franchise dreams for if you get it right.
Nah, the moral of the story is not to announce it. Every studio has long term future plans from the outset these days, but it always hinges on success of the first one.

I guess it's time for some Ritchie rankings:
Snatch
Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels
Sherlock Holmes
RocknRolla
The Man From UNCLE
Sherlock Holmes 2
Haven't seen Swept Away or Revolver.
King Arthur probably ends up between Holmes and RocknRolla. Aladdin probably gets taken from him after critics hate King Arthur.

I'm using the ol' guy deserves it by now card too. But really, I'm probably rooting for Deakins over Hoytema. Dunkirk does look very nice, but, I dunno, Blade Runner does too
Going off trailers, I'd guess that Blade Runner looks better, I've just given up on him getting it. Vikings and Timberwolves will never win championships in my lifetime, and Deakins will never get his Oscar. I don't have it in me to hope anymore.

You'll have to ask me again once I've seen both movies
I only asked because you said "Give Deakins his Oscar" before seeing either.

It was a tough year. This year he's probably the odds on favorite.
How conflicted will you be when Hoytema and Nolan sweep the lot?

When he didn't get it for Assassination Of Jesse James, I officially gave up on him getting one. It's just not gonna happen man.

As someone who isn't the biggest Villeneuve fan, and who doesn't really love Blade Runner, I didn't actually expect to be vowed by a trailer for this one.
And yeah, I wasn't.

Wait, David Beckham is in it?
He also had a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo in Man From UNCLE.

Weirdly I really want to see this. I am a huge King Arthur fan. Loved the books and loved the TV show Merlin. I have been waiting for this film for a long time. Too bad it isn't getting the right treatment it should be getting.
In between tv and films in the past 50 years, it has basically gotten every treatment possible. EXCEPT for ones with giant elephants and Guy Ritchie bantz. Time to finally cross that off the list.

The trailers have gotten sillier and more ridiculous since Comic Con. And I still expect two things: that I'll have a fun time with it, and that it'll get savaged by critics.

I'm so glad I haven't read the books. While everyone is bitching about change of settings and and unfaithful adaptation, I'm just gonna drool at Idris Elba's reloading tricks while waiting for the inevitable Matthew McConaughey shirtless scene. Ignorance is bliss.

The batte for best Sci-fi world building between Valerian and Guardians Vol 2 is gonna be glorious.
I loved GOTG2, but I'd put my money on Valerian.

The Star Wars world has already been built. I just want some damn character work.

Decent trailer, not brilliant, but I'm pretty excited for this regardless. Seeing as First Class > Days Of Future Past, and Kick-Ass > Kick-Ass 2, I'm curious to see what Vaughn delivers when actually directing a sequel to his own movie.

When are we gonna get that Sherlock Holmes sequel?
I don't want to live in a world with two Holmes sequels and no Real RocknRolla.

Just watch The Rock, forget the other two.

Just passed King Kong (2005) WW total with $552 million.
Wow, I always thought Peter Jackson's Kong did more than that. He was hot shit after LOTR, and I there was so much damn hype and promotion for it. I mean, it was literally the only time I'd ever fallen asleep in the cinema, but everyone I knew seemed to like it right.

Just saw it, it was okay. About what I expected. Current rankings:
Fast Five
The Fast And The Furious
Tokyo Drift
6, 7, and 8 (they all feel like the same movie, can't really differentiate them)
Fast And Furious
2 Fast 2 Furious

I seriously don't get the Ilsa thing. I get that they were trying to go against that MGS3 Eva type of female spy, but I wasn't into the execution of the idea. Ilsa bored the shit outta me on screen, and I couldn't tell if it was the acting or the writing right. And honestly, everyone in Rogue Nation bored me, except for a couple Rhames/Renner moments.
I think the last of these that I enjoyed once I got over the novelty of the stunts was MI3. I actually cared about his relationship with Michelle Monaghan, I was actually intimidated by Philip Seymour Hoffman, and I was actually caught out by the Billy Crudup twist. It doesn't have the Burj Khalifa or hanging off a plane moment though, which understandably pushes it out of some people's minds when thinking of the best MI films.

Looks like my first date with someone I met online will be to watch this. Should be interesting regardless of how it goes
Holy shit, crazy Jason Statham connection: I once saw Death Race with someone on our first date. A few years later we got married, and a few years later we got divorced.
Don't do it!

Saw it last night, it was about what I expected; not bad, not great, but if you're a fan you'd probably really get a kick out of it. I saw it with someone who watched every season of Power Rangers until about 2005, and they loved it. Thoughts:
- The rangers were well cast, and definitely had good chemistry with each other. The best parts of the movie were scenes where they just interacted as teenagers, as opposed to the plot exposition or even the fights. Blue was my favourite, Pink second.
- A lot of the humor actually worked, and elevated a few stock standard moments.
- The suits looked better in action than in pictures, but I still wish they looked more classic.
- Cranston was Cranston but didn't have much to do. Hader as Alpha 5 didn't annoy me as much as I thought he would.
- Banks hammed it up way too much for my liking. Other than one nightmare-ish sequence early in the film, I didn't find her threatening or entertaining.
- The action was forgettable. It was mostly just by the numbers training montages at the base, and the Zord action was uninspired (although the moment they charge into battle is fanservice gold, got cheers from the few people at my screening).
I'd probably check out a sequel, but at this point I'm pretty sure there won't be one.

I liked this a lot better than the first trailer, and I'm pretty damn confident I'm gonna like the movie.
But I do hope this ends the "trilogy" of the beginning of ape domination, and the 4th movie won't be another similar apes v humans story.

The critics and friends I know haven't been kind, but people trashed Lucy too and I liked it. Not that I'm super hopeful for this, but I'll keep an open mind until I see it.
