  1. Critics influence legs. The relationship is not perfect, but it is there. And we'll have to see how SS actually does. BvS did appreciably worse than Civil War on legs/multiplier.
  2. WB/DC might make a mess with cuts and KT is still in charge at WB. As Drew McWeeny put it, if you want good movies with human resonance, you should not put the guy in charge of roller coasters in the CEO chair.
  3. SS is not especially kid or family friendly, as many have noted. I wonder how that affects merchandise sales. It may have been rated PG-13 to sell Harley Quinn dolls to elementary school aged girls, lol.
  4. JB will still clear half a billion worldwide with a 120M budget--big dollars for Universal. If Matt and Paul want in, and more Bourne will happen for sure.
  5. Or why good agents press gross points! Although, it seems plausible that a lot of movies come in the black through home entertainment and licensing, and net points reflect that.
  6. Deadline and others have estimated that BvS will bring in at least 150M to WB in the long haul. SS will also be profitable. I think you're underestimating ancillaries. TV rights, Blu-Ray/HE, merchandising, etc can work out to over 100M.
  7. Yeah, Suicide Squad's OW is astonishing. It also has to be somewhat heartening to the industry. It is really concerning how movies that turned in solid performances but did not break the 300M mark are depleting, and how there does not seem to be much outside of the biggest hits because of millienials' feelings about moviegoing. But, there is still an audience for theatrical movies.
  8. http://deadline.com/2016/03/avengers-age-of-ultron-profit-2015-box-office-marvel-universe-1201725562/ Ultron cost 190M to market according to Deadline. But, one problematic and imperfect estimate found that Ultron made over 300 million dollars of profits for Disney. That does not take into account merchandising.
  9. grim22 mentioned that one reason rentrak/comScore have to be accurate with actuals is that other studios might make a fuss about records. Given the territory here with Dory and Deadpool, it seems we'll get our answer tomorrow, for sure.
  10. Warner Bros. is calling Suicide Squad‘s opening weekend at $135.1M this morning, which is on the high end of where the industry sees it too. They are putting up a high-end estimate.
  11. Tele also mentioned the case of Robin Hood. The real budget was upwards of 200M, with tax credits it was 200M, and the reported budget was 150-something M.
  12. I would also add that his re: a query about SS and profits was similar to what a producer said on twitter. Nilephelan has solid insider knowledge. To be perfectly clear, he did not state the budget was 250M for sure. Just that he heard rumbling it was closer to 250M. The listed budget is in line with what a poster here expected too.
