4Chan is a board that has both good and bad aspects (I have never visited.) On the good side, it doesn't track people and people can post privately without giving 'real life' credentials or identity (as a civil libertarian I think that is good.)  On the bad side, because of that, there is no accountability and people can post lies and harmful content.  Given your avatar you might care that when Jen's private intimate photos were stolen, it was on 4Chan that they were reputedly housed, so those who wanted to spread them around forever, regardless of the public humiliation to her of publicly publishing intimate acts with her boyfriend, could find them easily. 

To most people 4Chan is just a place where there is no accountability, and posters have no reputation to protect.
