But, like, that's the story. Having Kenobi running around the galaxy busting up fools and being a superhero? Got plenty of that, especially on the animated side of things. Seeing how Obi-Wan overcomes angst and grief and becomes whole again?
Damn compelling story, IMO. If some fans don't want that? Well, their loss.
I would give you the point if the execution of the 3 episodes was there but it's not really there to make it compelling and the extra not good plot points hurt the overall journey, I did not say that was the only problem people had.
Outside the first half of episode 1 and Leia/Obi wan conversations everything has been rocky, even the dialogue from Vader was weak, why did Kenobi even stay if he was going to run away from Vader and not even say a word btw? they would have all made it if they ran together, it's not like he helped the people directly.
Well most likely Reva would catch them with her teleporting but still.

As long as it makes it to 400M is fine for me... It's not like it would have any other achievement after that.

Writing wise... This is worse than Boba Fett so far, this is just being saved by the fan service which it's not even done right... I don't agree with fans anger against the cast but I can see why are people not liking another beloved hero turned into depression and being unable to do anything that made him great, they already lived that in the sequels.
For some reason they are giving so many weird scenes to Reva, it's like they are trying to make her cool but ends being the opposite, the over the top parkour, screaming at al sloooow ship in front of her, etc.
For every good scene there are 3 bad... Leia character is good BUT she being kidnapped or has a cringy chase scene every 5 minutes like come on.
It seems Mandalorian has no competition when it comes to SW series.

There's a conversation to be had about how the productions of these movies have ostensibly glorified steroid use lol
You are telling me people cannot become bodybuilders in 3 months? Wild.

If DS2 had as many characters with longer screen time as Civil War, it would have outgrossed it even without China and Russia.
I'm not sure how Disney will feel about not making 1B but I hope Feige drags them a bit for revealing too much in the promos. It's funny how Sony ended up being more restrained with NWH marketing, which in turn led to a more satisfying theatrical experience.
I mean there is a difference in Spider-man surprises and Dr Strange surprises, in Spider-man they have a big role in Dr Strange? no really.

It's a win for disney alright but wouldn't call it a big win either. Think they would have expected a billion with such a big global opening
A global opening without China,, the potential was way bigger? yes, but it's still great overall with divisive ratings, I don't think Disney is losing sleep over just being short of 1B.

I'd say the likelihood of a china release are at best -100%. A patriotic US movie, yeah, they won't release that.
What do you all think will this movie do?It feels like it might do quite nice in most countries (as it seems to be a proper action movie) but it obviously lacks the draw it has in the US.
Presales in Germany at least aren't looking as bleak as I expected. It's not -100% when they already said weeks ago that is banned.

Just watched it. Definitely the weakest MCU in a long time. Worst one since Iron Man 2 maybe? It's right up there in pointlessness. It doesn't work on a narrative level and there's no action / setpieces to enjoy. You need at least one of these as a minimum.
There is 0 justification for Wanda suddenly becoming a villain. There should have been at least some build-up to her turning bad. Are we seriously meant to believe that 'dreaming about having children' would drive her to mass murder?
Also why are we meant to be invested in Strange and Christine when, as far as I can remember, Strange has literally never made any reference to her since the 2016 film?
I don't get this... He is in love with her since the first film, what is it so hard to believe?
What a jarring thing to throw an update of his relationship with Christine during Thanos attack or meanwhile he was doing Spider-man spell, people are talking as if we had 10 Dr Strange sequels, this is literaly the second movie.

This was not touted as just a strange vs wanda movies, this was considered an event movie. No need to spin it.
We all know you want to call this event movie to not be used against the Batman...
Guess what by hype Batman was an event movie.

There is no way 400m domestic is not happening. Come on. Let's be realistic here.
Even Captain Marvel did that with more competition.
IP sells and DS2 has 0 competiton for the next 3 weeks.
I agree but Captain Marvel legs is a bad example, they were good and even the super late legs got boosted by Endgame.

How, it literally only has Doctor Strange and Wanda.
They want to count the cameos that are barely important in or out of the story as being a pseudo Avenger movie like Civil War.
It's just to have more reasons to call the movie a failure.

What really botched the movie was the script. What an awful script.
Add to that the fact that Raimi style is REALLY not for everyone.
Waldron needs to go. Or, honestly, the Multiverse needs to go. And Waldron to.
People act as if next movies are all about multiverse, outside maybe and JUST maybe Ant-man, none of the next movies 6 movies are about multiverses, or even the series outside Loki 2.

Imagine it doesn't even hit a billion. At least we get the first superhero movie to hit that sweet 900+ mark.
You would be happy.

It honestly feels like certain people on here want the movie to fail so if its not "omg its frontloaded" its "omg the overseas drop is gonna be steep"
Well it does not make it any less obvious when the same user has been spamming the same lines in every single Dr Strange thread for 4 days.

The sequel will be massive for The Batman with how positive the first one been recieved.
Ehh I expect no more than 1B or 1.1B, Asia is not Batman lover in general.

Batman as a brand will always be bigger than Dr Strange, no questions, but we know box office don't follow those rules so closely, just look at Superman, the most known hero.

People keep comparing Doctor Strange to Eternals for reviews ( who knows why ) and Civil War for legs but this is literally mimicking Iron-man 3 in almost everything, even the little fandom rage.

The direction was fine. Problems are all in the script, Waldron is the new most dangerous mcu villain.
Not even close.

I must say it's funny how Maria can die/be defeated from a falling statue but Carol can survive the damn core of a planet on What if lmao.

Although The Illuminati were killed off by Wanda, I wouldn't be surprised if we see them again as surely there must be other versions or even an MCU/616 version that exists.
Charles Xavier must be the only Marvel character to have been killed off three times on film, he was vaporised in X-Men: The Last Stand, died in Logan and killed by Wanda in MOM.
Red headed mutants are Charles worst enemy.

The treatment to a certain character whose film is in works is pathetic to say the least. This is how you plan on winning the fans and audience who have got 4 shit movies before? Might as well have not introduced the character, variant or no variant. I hope TG2, Lightyear and JWD wreck this movie's legs completely. I for one have lost faith in MCU and Kevin Feige after one two punch of Eternals and DS2.
What character? Reed? seriously? lmao.

Competition (or the lack thereof) may impact numbers
Like every single movie pre- Strange... For sure more late competition than NWH and Batman

GA who don't follow reviews still think it's a cameo-fest and arguably Wanda herself is a bigger draw than Strange
Using Grace is always the definitive proof.
The one that has been telling to all her followers for months about cameos that are not in the movie

There are smaller, less famous actors who don't want to commit for a long time, for example, Anthony Mackie said he will only stay around for 10 years and we all know that they don't have a trilogy focusing on his character for the next 10 years, they have a lot of characters to introduce, which means Mackie will probably out of the picture soon. Paycheck is just a part of the reason but it's not the sole reason.
Tbh 10 years is a massive amount of time lol.

Btw I laughed to the fence scene, Obi Wan trying HARD to deactivate the fence... Like just go around... They were going on foot... The multiple shots did not help.
