  1. Zootopia officially reached 1 Billion USD Box Office worldwide today. I joined this thread on April 30 when Zootopia was still around $850M purely just to see the chances of Zootopia hitting that mark I have never followed the box office of any movie before, let alone this intensely for this long. Now that it is done, I am bidding goodbye. I know The Jungle Book is coming close as well (also up to Japan, very similar to Zootopia's case), but I have absolutely no love for that movie. Zootopia is a very special movie in the sense that it achieved this box office purely based on its quality as a movie. It is neither a sequel nor a prequel of an existing franchise. In fact, it is the second highest grossing film not based on anything so far (but we all know Avatar only achieved the highest because of its 3D effects, the story itself is very ordinary). Not to mention the fact that Zootopia did not even start on even grounds with most of the top grossing movies in terms of the marketing, movie release dates, and DVD release dates. Anyway, it's been an interesting month and a few days I will have to occupy my mind with other stuff now. bye
  2. Current Japan Time 18:16, [順位] [販売数] [映画作品タイトル名] *1 *87609 ズートピア *2 *68017 植物図鑑 運命の恋、ひろいま… *3 *59722 デッドプール Zootopia needs to beat 植物図鑑 運命の恋 by 25K in order to finish this weekend as number 1... the gap has been 18~19K for a while now so it doesn't look like that's happening. Turns out the number 1 this week is neither Zootopia nor Deadpool. Who would have thought? Or as Shyamalan likes to put it, "what a twist!"
  3. Looks like this Sunday will be a drop of around 20% from last Sunday as well. But keep in mind that there was a Sports Monday right after the weekend last week... its almost a 3-day-weekend, so many kids and their families either couldn't watch on the weekend or deliberately waited until Monday to avoid traffic. I would say the actual drop is bigger than 20%, maybe 25%~30%.
  4. Perfect timing to finally drop in Japan Its almost as if the Japanese viewers were thinking, "Yep. We guaranteed Zootopia 1 billion worldwide... so fuck it now, lets start watching other movies."
  5. because Zootopia is a great film, obviously. ... seriously though, it's effing bizarre.

Assuming ladies make up half the admissions, 19%/2 = 9.5%. Tickets were discounted 9.5% last Wednesday. So ticket prices decreased by 9.5%, but admissions also increased by 9.2%... probably a flat or slight decrease in revenue compared to last week As well as Deadpool is performing today, it does not seem like it is directly affecting Zootopia too much (if at all). Another thing to take away from today is that the evening admissions have not been as strong as last week. At 14:00, Zootopia was at 116.6% week-over-week, by 19:00, it has dropped to 109.2%. Perhaps we have passed the peak of Zootopia in Japan already, though the drop is still very small and could increase back up next week again.
  7. Deadpool is beating the crap out of Zootopia at the moment. Does anyone know if this is normal for the first day of a hit movie? 10. so at 14:00, This Monday is having a 52.5% increase compared to last Monday. Assuming that the total admissions for today will increase by the same percentage, today's mimorin admission should be around 75,400. If you add the most recent Saturday to Monday compared with the last Saturday to Monday, you get the following: Last Week This Week Growth Saturday 93,308 76,165 -18.4% Sunday 126,482 110,501 -12.6% Monday 49,451 75,413 52.5% Total 269,241 262,079 -2.7% Although the weekend drop is -15%, if you include the Sports Mondays as well, the actual drop for the three days is actually only -2.7%. Perhaps this is another great week-over-week hold after all. Looking forward to another $4M weekend next week.
  11. it's only 11:48AM at the moment, but, holy crap, look at that admission number [順位] [販売数] [映画作品タイトル名] *1 *30165 ズートピア *2 **5399 オオカミ少女と黒王子 *3 **4810 名探偵コナン2016 純黒の… this can easily beat some of the Saturday or Sunday admissions we have had. Maybe this is why last Weekend dropped so much? It's technically a three-day-weekend and many are waiting to watch on a Monday (not to mention the admissions lost from children in the weekend due to Sports Meeting)
  12. http://www.vulture.com/2016/05/moviegoers-dont-follow-alice-down-rabbit-hole.html# "Alice Through the Looking Glass did not have a good three-day opening. The sequel to Tim Burton's billion-dollar-grossing mess of computer-generated whimsy earned $28.1 million domestically, and is on pace to make less than $100 million during its run." Good news, I guess. For one, Through the Looking Glass is probably not going to affect Zootopia as much in Japan now (Domestic Gross for Zootopia is almost negligible at this point though). For another, it's about time Movie Studios start taking hints from Zootopia and make actual qualify film instead of riding on the hype of prequels (Through the Looking Glass) and possible sequels (Dawn of Justice).
  13. huh, i was just about to ask someone if it's Sports Monday today too
  14. edroger has been a little more optimistic in his estimation as compared to BoxOfficeMojo's numbers in the last few weeks. take last weekend's revenue for example, edroger estimated last weekend to be $5.07M when BoxOfficeMojo is $4.58M Date (click to view chart) Rank Weekend Gross / % Change Screens Change /Avg. Gross-to-Date Week # Apr. 23–24 2 $3,988,949 - 471 - $8,469 $3,988,949 1 Apr. 30–May 1 2 $4,795,368 +20.2% 0 -471 n/a $13,531,841 2 May 7–8 1 $3,611,350 -24.7% 0 - n/a $27,896,906 3 May 14–15 1 $4,225,882 +17.0% 0 - n/a $34,335,852 4 May 21–22 1 $4,579,568 +8.4% 0 - n/a $41,322,552 5 i estimate $47.5M based on BoxOfficeMojo's number as of last week, add $2.5M for the weekdays, and add another $3.7M for the weekend. Based on this number, OS-Japan is $606.7M last week ($648M - $41.3M) and $608.1M this week ($655.6M - $47.5M) OS-Japan increased by $1.4M... which sounds pretty reasonable, but we both know BoxOfficeMojo has a bad habit of underestimating foreign gross at first... so maybe there'll be another $0.5M BoxOfficeMojo just updated numbers about 30 minutes ago, looks like I overestimated Domestic Office and underestimated OS-Japan... total adds up to be about the same though ($991M~$992M)
  15. one review is 2.5/5, the other review is 3.5/5... average 3/5 3/5, 60%, seems like an average review for me. or maybe i'm not familiar enough with these review sites i was expecting "terrible" to be more like Dawn of Justice terrible
  16. tickets sold has not increased in more than 1 hour, I think this is it for today [順位] [販売数] [映画作品タイトル名] *1 110501 ズートピア *2 *64468 オオカミ少女と黒王子 *3 *27668 世界から猫が消えたなら total mimorin admissions this weekend is 76,165 + 110,501 = 186,666... $3.7M weekend gross worldwide gross as of this Sunday for Zootopia should be $991M~$992M (Domestic: $336.5M, OS-Japan: $608M, Japan: $47.5M) Zootopia will break the Billion mark in two more weekends ... or one, if Japan manages to increase above 20% next week
  17. i don't think the reviews are terrible, they're just so-so. the box office will probably drop next week anyway though
  18. 76K on mimorin on Saturday and if the 13.5% drop at 14:00 on Sunday is any indication, the number today on mimorin should be around 109K the revenue this weekend should be anywhere between $3.6M~$3.7M... a drop of roughly 20% from last weekend this will make Japan cumulative revenue a little above $47M, beating Cinderella. this should also put Zootopia's minimum revenue in Japan at $67M considering that the weekday drops are more or less between 3%~11%, I think it's safe to say that the weekend drop is mostly due to オオカミ少女と黒王子, which made its debut yesterday. anyone know if オオカミ少女と黒王子 is having good enough reviews to keep affecting Zootopia as well next week?
  19. by the way, is anyone keeping tarck of how many days Zootopia has been number 1 in Japan?
  21. 14:00 numbers are in and something is wrong with Mimorin's calculation. Mimorin's used the total number of last Wednesday as the base when calculating the growth percentage... hence the 32.6%.
  22. i love how, in the first two weeks, we were complaining about how Zootopia cannot keep their lead in tickets sold in the evening sessions. now, as long as the first place isn't twice the number of Zootopia, Zootopia can still manage to catch up by the end of the day.
  23. I say $82M. $41M now, two more weeks of $7M, $25M for drops afterwards, and an extra $2M because I think Zootopia can still defy historic numbers a little more. $41M + ($7M*2) + $25M + $2M = $82M
