Well I saw it... and I FREAKING LOVED IT!
I don't know if what I say will be considered as spoilers so i'll put it in a tag but i'm not giving anything away just my general thoughts..
SpoilerFirst off, yeah, people were right- the characters are sorta one dimensional and the story is pretty predictable but honestly that doesn't hurt the movie in my opinion. The characters for me were fine and just there to push the plot along. The story was a bit bland but the great action sequences more than made up for it.
The action was incredible, so many great scenes that were just pure fun. The effects and visuals were stunning and it's the first time in a looong time I have seen a big blockbuster be so interesting visually.
The movie knows what it is. It's a big loud dumb action flick and at times it cleverly address it's flaws like it knows what the audiences are thinking. It's very clever.
The monsters were all great and kinda terrifying. Some scenes shocked me to the point where I thought the movie was lucky to get away with the PG-13 rating.
Kong was great as a character. Perfect amount of screen time. His CGI also blew me away.
John C. Reilly was a stand out, very funny and charismatic. I also loved the soldiers, they were almost better than the leading crew.
Overall, I loved the movie. I went into this with my expectations low and my brain off. That's the best way to see this film. It's not an Oscar winning screenplay and the performances aren't the best thing ever but for what the movie is trying to be, it works.. and it works well.
Easily the best monster movie I have seen. If I had to put a number on it i'd say an 8/10

I'm in my seat about to see this.. very excited.
On a side note a Baywatch trailer just played and there is a weird scene at the end of the trailer where they clearly used a green screen for the beach and it looked terrible..
Anyways, i'm praying that Kong is good!

Well, Kong has been certified fresh at 80% after 81 reviews (6.5/10 avg).
I doubt it'll drop below 70% so it should stay certified

I think it's the first time that I've seen Christ Stuckmann have an opinion so different to other critics.
A lot of the YouTube 'critics' seem to have similar opinions on the film. For whatever reason, the ones I follow didn't like it all that much (Stuckmann, Jahns, Collider/Schmoes), however I have seen more actual critics praise the film.
That's odd to me because usually it's the other way around. Especially with genre films like this- YouTube fanboys seem to eat genre films up while critics rip them apart.

I remember doing a trade with a couple of teens for (I can't even remember which movies now). Me and the wife were going to watch a PG-13 movie and there were 2 teens looking to watch a R-rated movie, this is back in 2014 I think, so they bought the PG-13 tickets, I bought the R-tickets and we exchanged once we were inside.
Oooooooooo i'm telling!

I think Kong is going to be one of those easy to walk into movies. Sure pre-sales might be low, but I'm betting the amount of walk ins will be high. If word of mouth is good it will also help in this regard.

Theatre schedules are out in Australia and Kong is splitting the Large Format Screens with Logan roughly 50:50.
Here in NZ Kong has completely taken the big screen at my local. A bigger theater a bit further out has a 50/50 split with Logan also.

Outside of Brie, Tom, and SLJ, I've hardly seen anyone else do interviews for the film.
Which is a pain in the ass when you're not watching the movie for any of them.
Exactly! Why are there no Skull Crawler interviews? No water buffalo on the press tour? The giant spider wasn't even at the premiere!

Wait wait wait.
Where is it showing on April 4th? Thought it wasn't coming out till 4th May?
Hoyts in ChCh has it listed for a single showing on April 2nd, then a limited release on the 4th.
Then again I don't know how accurate that is as they have been known to switch times often.

This movie doesn't even show in my country until April 4. Even then it's only in one theater near me.
Hearing amazing things and can't wait to see it.

I feel like some critics were expecting this to be some in depth character driven drama or something. I respect their opinion of course but i'm in it for some fun action and sexy visual set pieces, not fully fleshed characters and a screenplay that is Oscar worthy.
I'm not overly fussed if the characters are your typical red-shirts or the story is straight-forward. I just wanna see Kong SMASH!! It sounds like it works in the respect so i'm still very excited.

In a few hours I think. People are listing slightly different times for some reason but I think around 5 EST.

Campea is the only one out of that gang worth listening. He's fun and has common sense under all the fanboying zeal. The rest of them, blech.
I find myself agreeing with Perri more than Campea. I enjoy her reviews and opinions.
