  1. imagine if this was released in 2020 alongside nomadland. as it was supposed to.. lol + Eternals is banned in Kuwait, Qatar.
  2. hmm.. it wouldn't be surprise tho. I thought it was interesting we got editor name in 2021. then months later, we found out marvel's go to editor was also editing too. so total 3 editors were involved in this. but she praise them for helping her. also showed respect on recent instagram. also it's normal to have creative disagreement in some way. like salma mentioned she had some big discussion about script with chloe. every film go through this.
  3. The Most Poetic Marvel Film Yet Chloé Zhao, the director of Eternals, prioritizes humanism over action. The result is a soulful, refreshing superhero tale. Zhao seems most eager, though, to depict the Eternals’ bonds with the mortals they’ve lived beside. Her camera dwells on these interactions. In these moments, Zhao channels the singular humanistic vision that guided her stunning indies such as The Rider and Nomadland. Much of Eternals possesses the same meditative magic: Natural light bathes the characters and sublime landscapes surround them. But as a film that must introduce 10 characters Eternals also has much to explain. I’d braced myself for some prosaic exposition—no Marvel movie, 26 films in, can escape the greater apparatus of the franchise—but almost every flashback required further explanation. More often than not, though, information dumps slow the narrative. Such weighty comic-book history may help to explain how the weirder corners of the Marvel universe work, but they mostly distract from the film’s interest in the Eternals’ intense bonds. The fact that these scenes are frequently drenched in CGI doesn’t help: -spoiler delete-, abandoning Zhao’s signature style. It’s like listening to an orchestra that occasionally veers out of tune. Still, Zhao’s delicate examination of her characters outshines Eternals’ duller and more convoluted moments. The most tragic blow doesn’t come from a fist, but from a single look exchanged between two characters. That’s an ambitious approach—to sink a Marvel-size budget into a personal character study and still keep it feeling like a sweeping blockbuster. Only Zhao could have made it so. https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2021/10/chloe-zhao-eternals-marvel-review/620460/ this sum up nicely its strong/weak points and why it's being divisive from everyone, even among usual marvel marvel friendly critics.
  4. technically marvel didn't set the bar. it was chloe Zhao's name and fans/haters/critics, all of them did most with whole oscar talk and cinema discussion.
  5. it seems like there're lots of okay-meh review from usual marvel friendly people. while it doesn't really get that much love from more serious critics. so it just going nowhere.
  6. he gave same score to Black widow, while 8/10 for shang-chi. his recent score are interesting. 7/10 for dear evan hansen, 4/10 for candy man, 5/10 for 007 NTD, 6/10 for Snake Eyes, 7/10 for Reminiscence, 7/10 for Tomorrow War.
  7. as I said before, some critics are more harsher on this, due to whole cinema thing and Chloe's name. at least many are saying worth to see.
  8. just as I expected.. there was too many mixed reviews to get that dune or shangchi level. I guess it will end with 70~75% RT and 6.5 score?

  14. Chloé Zhao, Eternals ‘Eternals’: Chloe Zhao On Kevin Feige, Potential Sequels & Saying Yes To ‘Star Wars’ If Asked [Interview] The Playlist: You get the breakdown for this project. You go in and see Kevin Feige. What is your pitch? What did you tell him that got you the gig? Chloe Zhao: I think I started the pitch with a picture of a macro picture of sand. If you Google “macro picture of sand”, it’s pretty incredible. And then I started citing a poem by William Blake. I think that might be it, and that poem summed up my vision for the film, especially visually. And I think that really intrigued him. I saw the press conference earlier today and you talked about how a lot of the characters and sort of the gender-switching had already sort of been decided by Marvel beforehand, but this film has a lot of firsts. It has Makkari, being the first deaf superhero. It has Phastos, having his husband on-screen. Can you just talk about whether any of that was decided when you came on board or after? Well, I think the medium of film, from the conception of this idea of Phastos having a family to what you saw last night, there are many, many, many people got in the party and influenced the decision. I think that was in the script stage and the treatment stage, it was always there. And then casting Brian [Tyree Henry] was such a blessing to us because he really feels Phastos in his heart. He really gets it. So I have really relied on my cast to bring to the character a sense of who they are. I mean, Bryan showed up. Everything from his power he came up with. All the hand gestures and he came up with backstories and jokes and the way of talking he has with his son. He showed up to set with all these prepared, and they’re just wonderful to work with. So much for me to choose from and then you have these two actors on that day and you know there will be a moment where they become intimate and what I love about filmmaking, and you know this, is that only up until that moment we’re still unsure what is going to happen. And like that happened, and when it does, we’re just lucky enough to be there, to capture something very specific and unique and spontaneous. So yes, it’s planned, but it’s never locked in, you know, I have to feel it in the moment and it was perfect. I know many people before they see this film would think, “O.K., I’ve seen Chloe’s films. I know there’s going to be shots at dusk. I know, I know some of her aesthetic,” but “Eternals” has an aesthetic that is so beyond that, totally different from other MCU movies. What was your inspiration for that? Well, the way I like to put it is a National Geographic way of capturing things. Meaning, we do not let the camera be the hero. We’re not impressing you or telling you a story with the most impressive cut or where the camera moves. Camera often observes and drift the same way in “Nomadland.” What’s within the frame, has to be intriguing enough to hold the audience. And that way the audience gets to discover the frame themselves and they get to come to conclusions, what’s this relationship between this character and the worlds that existed, like Sersi in the Babylon village. Awe for humanity is discovered and felt by the audience not told to the audience. So we watched “Tree of Life” a lot at the beginning because what “Tree of Life” does is capture something so grand [and] tells stories so big within a small family in an intimate moment. It’s a film I’ll always aspire to, and, keeping that in mind all the time, with the whole creative team was the key. did you, did all the actors have an idea of what their characters had been through before they reunite? I think it varies. I just say [to the actors], “Make it up yourself. Whatever works for you, you are chosen for a reason.” I rely on my cast to help me craft the characters. Technically, I would guide them logistically where they’d be, Would you be up for doing a second one or do you sort of feel like this is it? What I loved about making this film is that it tied so close to the origin of the MCU is also going to have a big repercussion moving MCU forward. With those two as secured, we get to play and do whatever we want and make a stand strong standalone film and leave everything on the table. I would be back in a second working with the team at Marvel for sure. So we’ll see. I know that Kevin is a big fan of yours and he is working on a “Star Wars” movie. Would you ever consider directing a “Star Wars” film? I would, I’ll do anything Kevin asked me to do.[Laughs.] https://theplaylist.net/eternals-chloe-zhao-interview-20211020/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter I took out some spoiler parts.

  18. Dune also got some mixed/negative early reactions. it's currently just at 7.9 avg on RT. Last Duel started as poorly on RT with like 60% ish now 7.6 / 79%. again wait till more comes and RT's result later.
  19. at this point, you can't escape that spoiler.and since Variety writer tweet it.. every youtube, social media will post it soon.. lol
  20. yeah. this is no different than BW/SC. lol people just want to see what they want. and people's obsession with end credit with marvel film is as usual. remember people said best end credit scene ever!! crowd went wild!! with SC too. lol
  21. honestly the reviews are very much what I expected. "2H30M+Chloe Zhao+Marvel" some people said facing issue, lots of people said most un-marvel marvel film for good or bad. I wouldn't be surprised If it get less score than shang-chi (which is one of most overrated SH film). I can see marvel fans less liking this due to less marvel-ness while critics are not that thrilled as it is still very much in marvel-ness in overall tone - marvel humor, marvel action. it is surely not oscar contender, but just chloe zhao's nice marvel film.
