It's no comparison between a japanese anime film and one of Disney's biggest animated juggernauts. Look at the box office numbers. Ghost in the Shell (1995) made 2.3 million dollars worldwide and Beauty and the Beast (1991) made 425 million. So there's just no comparison. -
Ghost in the Shell, it's something new with groundbreaking visuals. Beauty and the Beast it's just another Disney adaptation made for kids that rides the same nostalgia train. After seeing this one, everyone went back to the original.

Gits has now a 64 score on Metacritic... it's really good comparing with the other movies, 62 Kong, 65 BatB, 44 Power Rangers, 56 Life.

67% on RT for now, with 7/10 adverage rating.

It's a mixed review from TheWrap, their main complain is that the film doesn't bring anything new.

Scarlett was on the Howard Stern show and he asked her what is the budget for the film, and she said that is around 130m.

So it looks like a good movie, and people who are objective enjoyed it. Only those who are hung up on the "whitewashing" from the start, could not get passed that. I reckon that is the reason for the late embargo. Many critics already have prejudged the movie, no matter how good it is. Look at Iron Fist on RT, only 18% score, but an audience score of 82, with many rotten reviews given just for the reason of "whitewashing", even if the film is good and most people like it.
