I'm not so sure. Revenge of the Sith dropped around 50% with a May release, and movie legs in general have gotten lower and lower since then.

Well, I think we are getting into opinions zone. I think this is a huge success but decreasing returns in almost all markets will make universal to decrease the budget of next two. Under 450 for both combined would be great but IMO not possible.

It did, mostly buoyed by China. I can't see it hitting a billion internationally. Many of its massive grosses (including China) are from notoriously front-loaded markets.

Yep china is looking more and more likely to  be less then f7. Few more markets have to increase to fill that gap. And I think opposite is more likely.

Hate to break it to u JonathanLB but if Star Wars didnt open during the Christmas holidays it to would fall  North of 50% in its second weekend. That's just the way things work. The Christmas holidays are a perfect time to open a film because you have two full weekends of soft drops. But any film that opens at any other time of the year and has a large fan base and does a good amount of preview numbers on Thursday night, is going to drop anywhere from 50% up to 60% in its second weekend. So it's not a pathetic drop it's just the way things work.

Look at Rogue One for example.

But he is talking about more than 60% which not very bad but not normal either.

I hear people say that about TDK trilogy a lot, how they're too dark, not enough "fun", not real comic book movies, depressing etc. Those same people will praise Logan which was probably darker than any TDK trilogy film. Despite them going on about how superheroes are supposed to be lighthearted and not take themselves too seriously. Logan and Daredevil take themselves VERY seriously so regardless of quality I don't see why they can get away with being dark superhero stories but DC movies can't. Especially Batman movies.

Again TDK is a universally beloved trilogy, logan and daredevil are not. You are looking at needles in hay

I find it hilarious that people shit on the DCEU for being to dark, grim and humorless then go and praise Daredevil and Logan, the fuck? Yeah, yeah I know "but those were good!" Still doesn't change the fact that they are just as grim as the DCEU. Logan was depressing as shit but I rarely see anyone bitch about that. Yet people complained about TDK trilogy being too dark, cause we all Batman is such a lighthearted jovial figure who needs MCUesque quips in his movies. And when they do put humor in their movies (SS and the JL trailer) people complain it's not funy. As if every one liner in the MCU has been hilarious, how about humor isn't the problem but quality is?

I know people want to act like there's no bias against DC at all but I'm not sure I buy it.

Nobody says TDK trilogy was dark in a bad way. "but those were good" is a legit reason. There is a bias against DCEU but your reasoning is flawed.

Fast and Furious 7 was the Avengers of the series, regarding domestic numbers. It's also the Skyfall of the series.

Fate of the Furious is either The Spectre of the series or the AOU of the series. It'll make considerably less domestic than the previous movie.

In no way F8's opening can be considered disappointing, but people are only kidding themselves if they say they weren't expecting higher numbers for this movie. Thing is, the budgets keep increasing and increasing. This one had a 250 million budget plus tons of millions spent for marketing and promotion. So, the real budget might damn well be 400 million or even more.

They just should keep these budgets in check and avoid inflating the productions. Perhaps Vin should let go his ego a bit. So, if the budget is 250 million and Fate of the Furious performs like FF 6, the movie might end its domestic run with less than 240 million. That's disappointing, despite huge numbers overseas.

Overseas numbers are important, but let's not forget that producers usually keep 25% from China, maybe 40% from the rest and about 50% from domestic grosses. Domestic grosses are important, because that's where producers get the higher ammount of money. So, this movie probably still has a long way until it makes a profit. We're dealing with a movie that is more expensive than a lot of Marvel movies, by the way. This movie is more expensive than the first Avengers movie, lol.

Did I say this movie might drop more than 60% for its second weekend? No? Yeah, that may happen just like every movie of the series ( minus the first one ). Did I say GOTG 2 is coming next, both domestic and overseas? It's gonna be released in less than 10 days here. So, it'll cut a lot of legs and engines from FF8.

So, that's it. Movie was great and fun, could have made better numbers domestic, it's performing great overseas, but it'll drop hard like previous movies.

Budget at 250 seems low.I think it reached 300.
