Wonder Woman in Mexico? Could be a huge hit?

Superheroes are loved a lot here, and should open +$120 M. However it will be affected for a big competence the next weeks after its release; one week after it faces 'The Mummy' and two weeks after it will have a harder challenge when arrives another really loved saga: Cars 3 (and also Baywatch). I see a +$250 M potencial, but i'm just being a bit conservative

  5. HTBALL starts its third weekend with $340.79 M lc ($18 MD). Great hold the entire week, is looking for +$420 M lc at the end of their run, now has surpassed GotG 2 and is fourth biggest film of the year behind FotF, BatB and Boss Baby. Another hit for Eugenio Derbez.

GotG Vol 2 cumes $332.06 M lc ($17 MD) and 6.5 assistants. Today surpass TWS as biggest Marvel hit withouth Avengers or RDJ.

Fate of the Furious keeps proclaiming as biggest hit of the year with $673.6 M lc ($36 MD) and 14.13 assistants. It reached JW in assistants but won't do it in earnings.

Boss Baby with a great run joins this weekend to FotF and BatB as the third movie of the year with +10 M admissions. Arrives to its eight week with $437.59 M lc and 9.98 admissions.

Covenant and King Arthur end its first week with $65.68 M and $59.01 M respectively.

ER down from 13.2 to 18.6 today :apocalypse:

At least it's not as bad as 21.5 earlier this year. That hit a lot of movies like Assassin's Creed, Allied, Sing and Passengers.

Actually these days have been wonderful days. However, i'm looking forward for post-summer season... NAFTA re-negotiations, U.S Fiscal Policy (and possibly an adjust in the mexican one too) and start of electoral campaigns for Presidency will keep very volatile the ER for a long time.

---amd the weekend table. Fantastic drop for HTBALL!

    • FF8 became the 8th movie to cross the 14 million audience threshold.
    • Baby Boss is now the #25 all-time movie in both lc and audience. Who knew. Great achievement.
    • GotG2 reached the Top 60 highest grossing movies (lc), and I think it's the highest grossing MU outside Avengers/IronMan.

    - HTBALL is holding excelent, it's not a local film but their performance is like one of them. Today should pass $300 M lc. There's no serious competence until POTC 5 and Get Out (Mexico loves the Disney's live-action films and horror films) in two weeks. Soon will surpass to 'Nosotros los Nobles' and already passed 'Rogue One' (if we take the "starring for a mexican" factor).

    - King Arthur opened just meh, i'm surprised because wom is more positive in this one than on Covenant. This last one opened a little bit over Prometheus ($44.5 M lc opening) but ER screwed it.

    - Answering your point about GotG 2, it's the second behind The Winter Soldier ($335.64 M lc)

  8. MEXICAN BOX OFFICE. MAY 5TH-MAY 7TH. DERBEZ MAKES A TERRIFIC COMEBACK IN SUNDAY AND STARTS GREAT.

Just yesterday i reported a step-down in 'How to be a Latin Lover?' on saturday and the OW forecast was of $105-$115 M lc but Mr. Derbez along with Salma Hayek in an unexpected way had an amazing jump on sunday making $59.3 M lc ($3.12 MD) and now record a huge $137.9 M lc OW ($7.29 MD) at 3,494 locations, just $10 M lc behind 'Instructions not Included' back in 2013. Why all went so unpredictable on saturday? Two names: Julio Cesar Chávez Jr and Saúl 'Canelo' Alvárez, the match on saturday night attracted a lot of people into their TV's instead to the theatres, but in sunday they had the perfect chance to go to see the comedy.

One spot low we have the intergalactic heroes of Marvel; 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2' had a huge Wknd-Wknd drop of around 70% and made $47 M lc ($2.47 MD) and now their total cume is of $282 M lc ($14.8 MD). With three more holidays to come in next two weeks it should pass $350 M lc.

Completing our Top 3 we have Toretto and Family; Fate of the Furious amassed $11 M lc ($570 KD) and after four weekends amount for $660 M lc ($34.7 MD). Definitely far from the $770 M of Furious 7.

    4. Boss Baby. $347 K wknd/$22.6 M total

    5. Koe no Katachi. $257 K wknd/$257 K total

    6. The Shack. $121 K wknd/$2.4 M total

    7. Colide. $110 K wknd/$110 K total

    8. Smurfs: The Lost Village. $105 K wknd/$5.2 M total

    9. Ozzy: Rápido y Peludo* $1.15 M total

    *Weekend results not available.

  9. MEXICAN BOX OFFICE. FRIDAY MAY 5TH REPORT. DERBEZ AND HAYEK CELEBRATES 'CINCO DE MAYO' IN A BIG WAY

At 3,155 locations, 'How to be a Latin Lover?' opens easily in number 1 with impressive $42.4 M lc ($2.2 MD). The american production starring mexicans Eugenio Derbez and Salma Hayek is eyeing for a $125-$135 M lc opening, a little bit down from the $148 M opening from last Derbez hit 'Instructions not Included', still huge opening.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 drops to second spot (obviously) adding $14.5 M lc to their $249 M lc ($13.1 MD) total.

Fate of the Furious keeps in the Top 3 with $3.4 M lc friday and a cummulative of $652 M lc ($34.3 MD)

    4. Boss Baby. $84 K FRI/$22.4 M total

Here's the full Top 10 table. Not sure which days is CANACINE reporting, but it's not the usual whole week.  The 1st of May holiday was huge, and there was enough space for all 3 Furious Baby Guardians to thrive.

Yeah, May 1st was huge. That day was enough to GotG 2 to catch the $200 M lc milestone.

  11. MEXICAN BOX OFFICE. APRIL 28TH - 30TH WEEKEND. GUARDIANS OPEN BIG AS FATE OF THE FURIOUS HOLDS

This weekend was a hard one for exhibitors, with two holidays to celebrate was a perfect ocassion for go to movies. This past friday opened the last Marvel Studios film; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 in around 3,600 locations and going over estimates making $154 M lc, which is 73% over the opening of first Guardians ($88.6 M lc). In dollars we're talking about $8.1 MD. It's uncertain if will keep the legs of the original (x 2.9). WoM is good but not great, still... if it has a similar performance like mostly of the MCU films should pass $420 M lc with no problem, unless gives us a surprise and be similar to 'Civil War' last year and makes half of their total in their first weekend, but that's not much likely. Next weekend Star Lord and Co. faces competence from a monster named Eugenio Derbez with '¿Cómo ser un Latin Lover?' (How to be a Latin Lover?), Eugenio already broke records in September 2013 with 'No se Aceptan Devoluciones' (Instructions not Included) including best OW for a local film ($148.48 M lc) and the biggest local film of all time ($600.2 M lc, $46.1 MD). This time nobody expects those records to be break, but there's a lot of expectations.

Dropping one spot we have 'Fate of the Furious' which made $1.97 MD ($37.2 M lc) for a total of $33.16 MD ($625.4 M lc) installing the annual record, probably the definitive one at least that our friendly neighbour or a new group of heroes gives us the surprise.

Holding in a terrific way; 'Baby Boss' barely dropped this weekend and got $1.06 MD ($20 M lc) for a cumulative of $21.84 MD ($412 M lc), meaning a huge success for DWA.

    4. Going in Style. $424 K wknd/$1.72 M total

    5. Don't Knock Twice. $360 K wknd/$360 K total

    6. Smurfs: The Lost Village. $339 K wknd/$4.96 M total

    7. Ozzy: Rápido y Peludo. $307 K wknd/$890 K total

    8. The Autopsy of Jane Doe. $259 K wknd/$1.18 M total

    9. The Shack. $233 K wknd/$2.16 M total

    10. L'Odysée (French movie)* $116 K wknd/$116 K total

    *Limited release

  12. I doubt it opens with 100 M, still should make a good OW cause is a perfect season for local movies because Puebla's Battle Day and Mother's Day that attract entire families to theatres to see local (or with local stars like this particular one that counts with Derbez and Salma Hayek) or animated movies.

Also, HTBALL domestic actuals should be over 12 M, 83% of audience is Hispanic and their attendance increases progressively Fri-Sat-Sun
