Hemsworth's performance is almost certainly going to be one of my favorites this year. He's so good here and clearly having a ball with the character. Dementus is such a great mix and charismatic and stupid, the guy is a total loser yet brutal and cunning enough to be dangerous. He has a pretty fun character arc too, becoming more pathetic and deranged each time we see him.
Anya Taylor Joy is solid but has weirdly little screentime, and just doesn't have the same commanding screen presence Charlize brought to the role (also really didn't buy her being able to physically intimidate Hemsworth at the end). It doesn't help that once she's introduced the film's ambition starts to get away from it and it feels like there isn't enough time for all the ground they need to cover. The movie glosses or completely skips over stuff that feels significant, i.e. no mention of Immortan Joe caring about his newest bride-to-be going missing after making such a big deal about her, Furiosa and Jack's mentor / mentee relationship, the 40 day war would've been awesome to see, the whole ending and Dementus's fate just felt abrupt and unclear. Like the narrator says she "takes away his voice" or something, she shoots him point blank in the back of the head, but then he's alive and then he's a tree idk wtf was going on there.
Still a good movie and enjoyed it, it just didn't come close to recapturing that buzz and high that I got from Fury Road. Would like to watch it again though. There's still a TON of cool shit, great action and kooky Mad Max characters that keep it fun and interesting.

The most watched movie of the weekend
I think there was a notification on my phone about this. This isn't a real movie.

Well he wasn't just watching. He saved her and brought to the citadel, no?
She wakes up in the cannibal's lair with all the maggots then ends up at the citadel, so if anything he dropped her off there but that's not really clear either. I thought it was more implied that the cannibal lady probably dragged her to her cave

Good movie, enjoyed it, but that's the problem when you're following in the footsteps of a literal once-in-a-lifetime masterpiece. I knew we weren't getting another Fury Road, but I just wanted to feel some of that same pure joy and adrenaline I felt when leaving the theater for that, and I just didn't. Honestly playing Fury Road clips during the credits felt a bit like rubbing salt in the wound, like them saying "boy don't you wish the movie you just watched was this good!"
Hemsworth rules though. Kinda holds the movie together to be honest. And there's a killer war rig sequence that is as awesome as anything in Fury Road.

Looks fine, I'll watch it.

Rewatched the reboot series this past week and it holds up great, love all the appreciation that people are showing for it. It's great to get a quality blockbuster series that doesn't treat the audience like they're stupid. Rise is still by far my favorite, I like the "genre-y" vibe of it, and Caesar's prison break story is a high that this series is never gonna match. Seriously, it's pure blood pumping electric moviemaking and it just WORKS. I was drunk last Saturday night and cheering for Caesar like an 8 year old lol
Anyways Kingdom is very good and a genuinely fun action adventure story. Liked all the new characters, Raka is by far the best and better be coming back. Main actress was fine, good enough. It begrudges me to admit Wes Ball is probably a good choice for Zelda (still don't have any faith in the writer and producer though). This series has also had some great villains between the last 3 movies. Koba, The Colonel and Proximus are all super compelling and fun to watch.

The more I see the trailer for The Watchers the more I get The Village "the twist/reveal is going to be something really stupid" vibes

Was her performance great? Not really but not terrible as some seem to be saying. But I will take her any day over whatever the hell James Franco was doing in Rise. He was just doing his normal weird thing where it's like he took hit off a bong before action was called. Honestly none of the human performances have been great or memorable in these last 4 movies and yet they are all good to great movies.
I really liked Woody Harrelson in War. Thought he brought a good unhinged energy to it.

I hope Hemsworth gets to chew up plenty scenery
That "LADY AND GENTLEMENS, START YOUR ENGINES" delivery always amuses me when I see the trailer. Classic Mad Max Australian accent

Park Chan-wook is directing the hell out of this. That shouldn't be a surprise to anyone but the dude is just a master.
I think RDJ has been really funny and enjoyable in this. Next week's episode with him doing a Coppola making Apocalypse Now riff should be a lot of fun.

I really can't with the bAd CgI comments anymore when all you have to go off is a shitty youtube video. These always look so much better on the big screen.

It is absolutely criminal for theaters to have the audacity to not even be showing trailers at the movie's start time. Movie was supposed to start two minutes ago and they're showing a coca cola commercial
AMC MUST BE STOPPED.

Too bad this isn't doing that well at the box office cause it's pretty good. It's a pretty formulaic action revenge flick, right down to the training montage (which I used to take a bathroom break) but Dev Patel really directs the hell out of it which elevates the whole thing. The fight scenes are great and there's some other really electric sequences in this.

In the theater for Monkey Man. Going on 25 minutes of trailers now. AMC MUST BE STOPPED.

- Badass fights
- Destroyed like 3 wonders of the world
I've never booked round 2 tickets so quickly. Pump this shit out every 4 years and I will be there.

Very, very few horror films are actually scary once you're past a certain age. The last scary one I actually remember was The Lighthouse. Eli Roth's Thanksgiving had some imaginative gross out work but was about as scary as a He-Man episode.
I just judge horror movies based on how fun they are now. I'm not looking to be scared because films rarely do that for me, just keep me entertained. Malignant was my favorite horror of the last few years because it was a god damn blast, not because it was frightening in the least.

I'm a big Linklater fan and yeah it's a total streaming movie. It's alright, fine to watch once. I don't know what people are smoking thinking it was going to be a big theatrical hit.
