It went over the estimates by $56k. It will have the best ten and the second best drop from the top twenty, being second to WW's first. Another awesome hold for Homecoming. Like clockwork.

My bad, iJack. I thought the estimate was $4,250,000. And yes, regardless SM:HC enjoys another excellent hold.

It actually went over by 6K. The estimate was $4.25mil

Emoji Movie also increased slightly from estimates. Probably due to studios estimating above 30% Sunday drops. They've learned over the past few weekends.

Not good for spidey right? :sadben:

I'm speculating here but I think that drop fine. Yes, it's higher than DM3, but that's not surprising since animation films do well in Japan from what I've read on this thread. Given that last weekend was a holiday, it was inflated and the drop looks worse than normal. TASM dropped 39% according to BOM. I think SMH should still cross $25 mil, but I may be wrong.

Wonder Woman may have beaten SM1, DOM-wise....but it hasn't topped it WW-wise, yet.

Spider-Man 1 is at $821M WW, and Wonder Woman is $21M away from getting there.

I think that's definitely happening. Japan + remaining DOM should put it at $825+ mil. How much farther depends on if it breaks in Japan, which seems likely to me given its marketing. I'm super impressed by WW.

Oof, so who, besides me, DID like Rogue One??

Loved it. Admittedly, I have not been able to watch any of the original trilogy movies in their entirety. I've seen bits and clips of them, but mostly know about them from what I've read. I've watched the prequels (because of Natalie Portman) and found them okay.

TFA is my favorite though, and I can't really say it's a rehash of ANH since I haven't seen that. I remember the hype before TFA came out that friends who'd never seen a SW movie were interested.

I'll try to watch all of them before TLJ but I think TFA movie brought in a lot of new SW fans and R1 kept them. So I don't consider R1 an unnecessary standalone movie.

  5. From what I've read, it seems that both franchises have issues that are brought up ad nauseum about them. For DC, it's the 'grim dark, mopey superman, Martha, Snyder, etc.' For Marvel, it the 'too quipy, no stakes, all formula, no one dies, Iron Man oversaruration, etc.' I think fans of both just need to ignore it and continue to enjoy what they enjoy.

Many casual fans don't think that deep about those issues, I know I didn't until I decided I wanted to learn more about the future movies and got sucked in. I definitely didn't understand the difference between DC and Marvel or Fox/Sony/Disney. People can repeat what they hate about movies I like, I may acknowledge the flaws, but it doesn't change how I feel about those movies, like Twilight for example. I'm personally invested, but don't feel the need to defend them from everyone who dislikes them.

CBM will be successful based on how much they can get the audience to feel connected. This is pretty evident in the successes of The Dark Knight trilogy and recently, GOTG and WW. And this year is a perfect example of how people will embrace these movies and characters despite mixed/bad reception in previous movies a la Logan, WW, Spider-Man, and I'm sure Thor and JL as well. I'm definitely excited for what's to come.

It opened in Japan this week .... OD is $3M per Oliver, which is below TASM2 and most if not all Spidey OD in Japan.

I'm pretty clueless about the box office in general and apologize if I'm asking something that should be obvious. But how is SMH's OD lower than TASM2's if the former opened to 3m OD for a 7.1m OW, while later opened to a 4.1m OW according to box office mojo (I'm not sure what its OD was)? Is it a theater count issue, the numbers are inaccurate or am I missing something?

Wow, I'm really surprised about Battleship dropping below Despicable Me 3, especially after the record breaking OW. Guess the controversy hurt it. I wonder what it's total will be at the end of it's run. Heard it needs 7 mil admissions to be a success.

Hot Take: Suicide Squad was better than half of the superhero movies last year.

I'm watching Suicide Squad now for the first time and I can see how it's 'good' in the sense that it holds my attention and I've replayed a few scenes (mostly to laugh). All I can say is I wouldn't mind rewatching this again, while I don't see myself ever rewatching BvS or getting through all of Civil War again. So yeah, I kinda agree with you...

My grandson is 5 - he wants to see it just for the poop emoji - he even has the pillow.  Kids don't have the greatest taste in movies & most parents will take them to see it even though it's godawful.

Absolutely right. My brother is also 5 and he wants to see it for the poop emoji as well, because it's 'smooth poop'. Laughs every time the commercial is on. Yet he didn't want to see Spider-Man because it looked scary. Makes no sense to me.

Also, my first post! And it's about The Emoji Movie... 🤦‍♂️
