Yeah I really didn't expect Mario's weakest region to be Asia of all places

There is no Nintendo brand in India but people and their parents do have fond memory of playing original super mario(its more or less pretty relevant video game to this day here) and that is pretty much the only thing when it comes to brand recognition.

I dont know if the case is similar with other south east markets tho I can definitely say that Pokemon is a  much bigger household name amongst all youngsters in asia but that did not help detective pikachu much.

If done right, it has the potential to supersede the films: more accessible (to non-readers) and richer story, better character development, better worldbuilding, etc. I am saying this as a big fan of both the films and the books.

The books absolutely allow for another interpretation that is distinctive and different in style from the films.

We are talking about WB at its story telling peak during the early Potter movie era.

Today's WB cannot even compete , its just the sad state of Hollywood film making nowadays so the best one can hope for this is to just not suck.

Can't believe Night 2. Almost every decision was a bad one. Night 1 was perfect, Night 2 was the opposite of that.

At least I chose the right night to attend in person yesterday, today would have been a bummer.

I saw the trailer with John Wick , it has written "So bad its so good" written all over it

Actually wanted a Jaani Dushman/The Room equivalent for a Hollywood exorcist movie for a long time so we could finally a cult comedy horror classic for once

  4. In short I fucking loved the original when i saw it as a kid and i wont know if it will today , it does end on a feel good note after that chaotic 3rd act so maybe it will
(I can't pinpoint why its awesome maybe it was "stranger things with adults X more personal stakes/less bombastic version of our usual Spielberg/Emmerich sci-fi spectacle of that era" combo)

Real problem is the original is not that great a film.Yeah, the effects are great, but the rest of the film is not. You don't really care about any of the main charecters

When I was a kid i didn't know english or had any "American" context for this movie when I saw it first time in early 00s on cable in dubbed language and find it awesome.
I dont know why but 20yrs later i still fondly remember this which I can't say about most of the out an out action blockbusters from the last 40yrs.
Maybe it was the 90s charm that this, Speed , MiB and very few other blockbusters share but it has a very "unique" place in summer tentpole movie genre imo that Hollywood had never made before or ever since.

This was very likely a rushed, last-minute deal. Deadline reported a while back that STX (or Miramax?) was shopping the movie around to streamers

It was originally going to be released by STX before they shut their doors

There were shows for this movie in my city around Jan-Feb here in India for some reason , i dont think it was released anywhere else that early..

Every single frame in this looks visually repulsive lol. All the desert stuff looks CW-esque

I think there's something odd with the aspect ratio , it doesn't necessarily has that cinematic look and more IMAX kinda look
