Ahh, that would certainly explains things. 5 is a significant % of 41 when most max releases have 0% from Th, still drags the expected drop down a little relative to the reference class.

Though I guess it will help a little being very Canada heavy — they drop better in general and don’t have max in particular. Plus reception and internal weekend behavior look solid. Could pull like a -62 or something, that would be really strong considering.

It’s an hbomax movie with a big chunk of gross coming from previews, I don’t know what more you want? Just look at some 2nd weekend/SS ratios for all the movies released this way.

It’s true that generally the critic and audience sentiment on mcu movies overall correlate pretty well, but if you look at the aspects of the movies that critics like vs the aspects that audiences do I think it’s clear which Kevin is more responsive to.

Really excellent Sunday, probably about a 67% drop for next weekend but that is being depressed some by the holiday.

Right now (39 reviews) 37.5% of top critics dislike it and 21.8% of other critic, pretty solid gap imo though sample size is still weak.

To be clear, it is possible that audiences hate this and it doesn’t get a sequel and we never see Zhao in the MCU again and all the characters quietly fade away. Can’t be ruled out yet. But that is, ahhh…. not the historically supported presumption. And in either case, reacting to like 70% RT instead of just waiting a dozen days to see the real reception is some rather extreme cart-before-the-horse.

Seeing some complaints from critics who dislike marvel formula that it isn’t as Zhao as they wanted, from ones that like the marvel formula that it’s too Zhao, and from ones all over the place that it straddles the two awkwardly. Frankly I don’t think the GA will be cognizant of this whole tiresome dynamic — they like the marvel formula, but are okay with some small deviations (which are really part of the formula anyway).

I ain't reading all these new pages, but 74% seems within the expected range here. If it ends up going down 10% it will be notable, and if it goes up 10% it will be super boring really standard MCU stuff.

You’ve gotta squint hard but the thing on the bottom of sokovia that holds it up is sometimes beamlike visually (really more of a jet though) and technically in the sky. Also have to squint on the villain with similar power set though. He has similarities to Iron Man and Vision, but the protagonists are an endsemble so it’s pretty cheap compared to canonical examples like Iron Monger, Abomination, Yellowjacket, Killmonger, etc
