  1. Black Panther takes the Marvel IMAX record. Domestically, Black Panther set a new February and Marvel IMAX record, grossing $23.5 million in four days on 404 IMAX domestic screens. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/marvel-studios-black-panther-grosses-35-million-for-record-feburary-global-launch-in-imax-theatres-300600995.html
  2. Hollis added that more "Black Panther" ticket buyers were in the 18-24 and 25-39 age brackets than is typical for a Marvel superhero movie. So black church ladies aren’t the main group? Gasp. "Results like this go beyond anything anyone ever could have hoped for," said Dave Hollis, president of global distribution at Disney. "The momentum that the film has, has left us unable, even, to keep up with projections. It's unbelievable." http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-et-mn-box-office-black-panther-20180220-story.html
  3. I think he might end up being right though. ETA: althought a lot of new “Marvel” fans might go see IW just to see BP and company again.
  4. For me.. seeing the joy in kids faces, black kids who never had a Marvel superhero, outweighs the uneasiness of Trump’s buddy racist, sexist Ike Perlmutter getting my euros. In addition to that, black director, black cast, black production designer, black costume designer, white hipster dude as a composer and a white woman as a cinematographer just fills my liberal heart with joy.
  5. Apparently Marvel had black church ladies as fans even before BP, but still this one means a lot to Mildred, 73. :):):) One of those "kids of all ages" was Mildred Johnson, 73, who was sitting in front of a huge Black Panther display ahead of her noon showtime. "I am just so proud of him and all he's done," Johnson said. "I collect comic books myself, and love all them superheroes. I have a feeling this one is going to be my favorite." 6. Because the massive Latino population is a mix of different cultures too. It probably did do huge numbers with Mexicans.
  7. Wow. Those numbers would be insane. I was thinking that it would do 350 by Friday but then I thought, no people have work and school, so it might do around 18-20 instead of the 26-28 I too kinda estimated at first...
  8. Phenomenon! Also, Deadline’s industry experts have been on point so far. They said it might take out TLJ 4-day sum and it just might! Ugh, I’m supposed to be writing but this is too fun to follow!.
  9. You’re a cautious one ignoring the signs. Come on, BP almost broke TFA’s Sunday and Monday records. It’ll be close to 300* by day 7. It will have to basically collapse to end up with average legs. *not summer of course, my bad.
  10. But this is a phenomenon. Thinking it’s going to have average legs at this point is just resisting the inevitable. 650-700m.
  11. If only same old superhero fans care about a film and make it have a good OW, is it a cultural event or just a regular day in nerdvania?
  12. If they hire someone for like 5 or 6 movies, I guess that makes it hard to kill a character too right? I don’t think Marvel heads have the whole storyline plotted out like JK did with Harry Potter, which results in existing contracts making it harder to kill someone even if the story demands it! Kill your darlings, Marvel. Kill your darlingsss.
  13. Its funny because I was reading an interview of BP’s cinematographer and she was purposely trying to make a movie completely different (read: better) than what Marvel has produced so far.
  14. Seeing reviews of this film on fashion blogs!! https://tomandlorenzo.com/2018/02/black-panther-masterpiece-filmmaking-cultural-milestone/ 700 million here we come.
  15. Hmm, true. I still think it does close 50m though. Yes, its higher than TFA, but TFA had a much bigger Friday.
  16. Drilling down on Black Panther‘s performance: Six out of the top 10 locations were in New York, two in Los Angeles (Arclight Hollywood and Burbank), Atlantic Station in Atlanta and DC’s Tysons. Black Panther had 612 runs gross north of $100,000 for the weekend; of those, 119 venues did over $200K, 20 did $300K+, and five minted $400K. AMC Empire NY cleared $500K, while AMC Atlantic Station’s shot past $600K over the three days. One studio analyst this morning projects a $500M final domestic B.O. for Black Panther. Source: http://deadline.com/2018/02/black-panther-thursday-night-preview-box-office-1202291093/ Pfff, lies! It will gross over 600million. But wow at those numbers.
