  1. Its doing crazy morning business AND crazy late night business. I think that it will do 50 million today.
  2. They won’t cry about it, of course. But I think they’d want the movie they’ve been building up to for 10 years and have multiple sequels planned for already to be their star. I don’t think ”IW fails to match BP’s opening weekend/total gross” is their preference when it comes to headlines and public perception.
  3. Good God, I can’t wrap my head around this. The only movie that did better is Star. Wars. Star Wars! Not Avengers. It grossed more than Avengers.
  4. The same thing happened Guardians of the Galaxy Hidden Figures Adele NBC special Vanessa Hudgens in Grease and these are just the top “Celebrities praise” search results. They just love to be part of an event like everyone else. (And in this case, of course, many of the big names tweeting cash Marvel checks.)
  5. They do. They have way more movies relating to the Avengers (characters) coming out in the next two to three years than for BP. There’s no script yet for BP 2. They need IW to be the winner. In my opinion, of course.
  6. Three more films and he gets to cash in! I need him to gain some weight though so that he can look like the typical SH. That going Vegan thing ruined his looks.
  7. IKR? I’m on boxofficemojo.com and I still have to pinch myself to not seeing BP being compared to Spiderman and Thor but to the Avengers movies instead!
  8. T’Challa has recorded the second best Sunday ever at the domestic B.O. with an estimated $59.55M per industry estimates tonight, filing behind the all-time record held by Disney/Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($60.5M on Dec. 20, 2015). This now pushes Black Panther to a 3-day between $201M-$202M; still the 5th best domestic 3-day opening of all-time after 2012’s Avengers ($207.4M). But here’s where it gets wild: Rivals are literally forecasting that the Ryan Coogler-directed Marvel movie could take the record for the second best 4-day opening of all-time with $241M-$243M after Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($288M). In that case, Black Panther would slaughter the Friday-Monday hauls of Avengers ($226.3M) Jurassic World ($234.1M), and, yes, Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($241.6M). woohoo!!! deadline.com
  9. Chadwick Boseman was my favorite. He had a calm, kingly presence that played well against Jordan’s more boastful character. But the women, ugh the women! Oyoke’s wink to Shuri after landing, Lupita’s BEAUTY, Queen Angela’s EVERYTHING. God. And the entrance of M’Buka at the beginning was so GOOD. Man, this movie is just fantastic. ETA: It has na actual plot! With a villian with an actual story and a feasible goal in mind!! Marvel hire more diverse directors because Coogler just like the Thor director, blew a breath of fresh air into your franchise.
  10. Black product designer, black costume designer, black writers, black director. Ugh, they did so good. I hope they get tons of job offers! and the film’s score by that white dude was everything. Get him some more opportunities as well.
  11. But there might be fans of Marvel that sit out BP because they have no taste, but do show up for IW. That could happen.
  12. Deadline had this number Saturday morning: “Currently, Saturday should see around $61M which puts us at these figures” The film ended up doing 66. They now project it to gross 52 for a 195 total. If they’re off by 5m again..
  13. It’ll do amazing. The Lion King is beloved as hell. People won’t care as long as the CG is freaking amazing. They already know that there are no humans in the story.
  14. It will surpass Beauty and the Beast numbers. Its been decades and the Broadway shows based on the movie still do well.
