I saw the Mario trailer twice in IMAX 3D and it looks really nice in it.

They actually put effort into making the 3D look good, much respect.

Good 3D on animation is easier to be done than live-action because the 2nd camera angle can be rendered virtually. Unlike live-action when something shot in 2D then being digitally morphed to create 3D depth in post.

  2. So far, I can confirm that TWOW does indeed: 1. draw out a lot of people that has not gone to the theaters for a while and 2. generate repeat viewings in premium screens unlike anything I've seen recently, could be all the way back to Endgame. Among my social circle, quite a few of my friends who rarely goes to the movies went, some of them already went twice and planning on a third show. And the general consensus is that no matter where you sit in an IMAX auditorium, you'll get a pretty good experience with 3D, something that would be outright terrible in 2D (say second row seats stuff). Very positive signs I'd say, and honestly, I doubt you can do much better than this in this day and age.

Fact is until we hear otherwise, Cameron was given 1bil so far to make the sequels. Obviously if we add marketing on top, probably 200mil per movie, we are talking 1.8bil total. Lets round that up to 2bil for little bits of here and there, and we are talking about the sequels needing around 4bil to break even.

    A2 - 1.5-2bil

    A3 - 1.5 -2bil

    A3 - 1-1,5bil

    A4 - 1-1.5bil

    5-7bil total.

And i feel those numbers are lowballing, especially for 3 and 4.

So yeah the films will post a healthy profit i'm sure.

You don't really need to add marketing to calculate break even point. Usually, as I've seen from the yearly Deadline's Profit Tournament, extra costs are often covered by post-theatrical revenues. So, it's mostly just what goes back to the studios minus production budget and that's it.

So taking the middle ground of your estimate, $6B (assuming 30/70 split) translates to about $2.5B coming back to the studios, minus $1B of production cost, netting a total profit of $1.5B.

I have watched 1-2 movies while sitting in 1st / 2nd row from screen. It's very hard to watch the movie imo. You have to look up a lot and can't see properly

One thing I've heard recently from some moviegoers in my country is that: front row + 2D is terrible while front row + 3D is much more tolerable. I probably won't try it out myself but that's quite interesting.

Maybe the 3D effect somehow makes correction adjustment to the distorted angle (to certain degree)?

Read the blurb; as far as I understand theres nothing particularily wrong with the story, and it isnt any worse than those of other blockbusters; the movie is only a day old and im pretty sure the GA already believes the story sucks, lackluster might not mean bad, but thats how people will ready that.

That has to be really deadly.

Its almost unfair hows it been treated, not even JWD, with its 38 on MC got its story called out in the main blurb

Ignore the fact that 2 weeks ago I was on the 3 billion train, the way things around going, I would be overjoyed with 2 billion (and could find a way to cope with 1.5 billion)

I know im being a bit exhausting, but its been 13 years and its only in this final week that things began to go wrong

Dude calm down. Audience love it.

  6. Y'all this is the greatest shit I've ever spent any 3 hours of my life on (maybe on par with Endgame). I'm too flabbergasted to put anything else in to words right now. Yet I'm sure of one thing, it'll be so much better on the second watch where all expectations has subsided and I can just be on that fucking ride again because it is insaneeeeee. And it's so emotional too, I teared up in several moments I didn't expect to 🥺

However I don't know if this will have the same impact on lesser quality screens. But on the right one it should blow everyone's mind.

It's not the numbers that are surprising me so much as the abrupt turnaround. Internationally speaking the presales were pointing to one of the most massive movie events ever and then everything just came to a screeching halt. Like, not just "not as big as originally thought" but from really good to pretty average.

    What happened???

Out of good seats at premium cinemas I think, at least where I live.
