Happening in my 13 screen theater, too. FFH is going from 17 showings a day to 7, all in standard theaters. Toy Story dropping from 9 to 5. Yesterday, Crawl, Aladdin, Avengers, and Stuber staying flat. Annabelle, MIB, and Rocketman all being dropped completely.
Also, we are dealing with the fantasy genre. If someone can suspend their disbelief about a talking mermaid singing and dancing under the sea, but her being black is suddenly a bridge too far, that’s their own issue to work through.
I’ve discovered a great movie theater in nearby Long Island - finally - so I’ve been to the movies more this year than in the last couple of years combined.
Here’s how I rank what I saw so far:
Endgame
Us
Captain Marvel
Detective Pikachu
Pet Sematary
The Curse of La Llorona
Endgame is the only one I’ve seen twice and still the only one I’d see again in theaters. I thought Us was very well done and I enjoyed Captain Marvel, but will wait for Blu Ray or streaming to watch either of those again.
