3/4 of people left the cinema before your so called cliffhanger that has NOTHING to do with the MCU... the only difference this will make is that sony will lose face until spider man reenters the MCU after their allready announced schedule which lacks spiderman anyway... or look at it this way-movies arent like comics and closures are welcomed by GA... film franchises are inherently difficult to sustain and the closest ones to break that tradition ARE superheroes, james bond and sw... losing spiderman means they lost maybe 2 years of relevance and marvel has at least 15 years worth of crazy material at their disposal after they aquired x men and ff.. and lets not forget endgame and what it did to the world

No one should be surprised by Disney trying to extort Sony. This is what this evil company has been doing to theater owners for a while now.

Sony was very generous to share Spider-man with the MCU. Yes the previous Spider-man movie was terrible and the Spider-man universe they were planning was a mess, but they didn't really need Kevin Feige to turn things around. They were perfectly able to make great and commercially successful Spider-man movies before, and they could do it again without Marvel Studios' involvement. Just look at Venom and Into the Spider-verse. The MCU was the one getting something only Sony could provide, which was Spider-man, Marvel's only iconic comic book character not part of the X-Men.

That was a pretty good deal for Disney. 5% of the Spider-man films' box office, boosted ticket sales for their Avengers movies featuring him, and all the merchandising money. And Sony even tried to raise Disney's stake on future Spidey movies, but not to absurd 50%. Disney is the only company here that didn't give a crap about the fans. Marvel fans shouldn't be coming for Sony.

    Look people! Definiton of average...

Proof: mentioning Venom and ITSV in the same sentence

2016;s highest grossing film was barely half of the 2015s (CW vs SW7). None of them approached 1.5b but in 2015, there were 3 and AoU wasn't far behind.

Yet 2016 global box office number barely drop. In fact, even in USA, the total gross grew in 2016 despite Rogue one only reached half of the SW7.

With Endgame hitting 2.8b, and 8 billionaire this year, global market will hardly grow.

Looking at all the champion of the year, their number fluctuate from year to year but that doesn't really affect the box office grossing as a whole,

    2012- 1.5b

    2013- 1.28b

    2014- 1.1b

    2015- 2.07b

    2016-1.15b

    2017-1.33b

Conclusion, box office market is a zero sum game.

    2018-2.05b

Suddenly TOTAL market expansions are gone xD HAHAHA

Lion King's success is baffling. Do people not see a shitty nostalgia cash grab when they get one? But either way, mind-blowing numbers.

OUATIH had amazing marketing. It was everywhere. Dat Tarantino powah. (DiCap, Pitt and Margot a little bit too.)

Go back to that hate thread.. you are repeating yourselves and it seems like an evil oliver twist 😕 i wanted this movie and it looks like planet did too...  try to belittle my taste and i will offer a 1 on 1 twitch stream where you will walk away wanting a live action remake of everything you ever said online

I will always attack Citizen Kane.

I will try to explain this with an example... as a kid i saw every action movie and we literally counted each blows in fist fights, every high roundkick, every good looking explosion.. we were rigorous in this regard and BLIND to its actual quality.. as time passed i started to notice how each film/genre fitted into its historic continuity.. art copies life, life copies art, art copies art and life copies life... after switching to hardcore horrors/thrillers even psycho looks mundane, but to people who never seen anything like it before(same with citizen kane for the people of that era) it must have felt how seeing braveheart/rotk/t2/titanic felt for us.. a GAMECHANGER... now to give some due credit to individual judgmental thinking some classics age better than others... carpenter's the thing is immortal, goonies too, but ARE THEY? is it just me who saw them just in that right moment and is nostalgia playing tricks on me? To answer that we have to go back to ben hur, lawrence of arabia, the third man, paths of glory etc. Those are perfect as they are even tho i havent seen them before they became "old" or quaint looking.. there are examples in between/up to debate as well ofc... so that leaves us in an ungratefull spot to always step back and take a look at the big picture...

Edit: what was gamechanging in citizen kane for its era? Rosebud-

Another post where @cdsacken confuses laughing with crying. This is absolutely hysterical. Besides, it’s not the same as what Avatar did, it’s more like The Price is Right where Endgame gets to go last and bids $1 over the other guy. Hahahahahahahaha. MCU fans wanted an asterisk next to the WW #1, be careful what you wish for. Hahahahahhaahahaha.

You MCU fanboys are so brittle a feather could drop on you and you’d shatter, this rerelease is the best news I’ve heard all week, MCU fans already coped their way into “well it’ll beat Avatar’s first release” and now that bandage has been torn off. James Cameron is known to be very competitive, if Endgame takes #1 that all but guarantees two things:

    1) Avatar 2 will be better than ever because of the fire this lights under him.

    2) We’re much more likely to get an Avatar 10-year anniversary re-release instead of tying it to Avatar 2 in 2021.

    I’m popping a cork. Thanks Feige 😍😘

    clap-clap.png

Oh, I’m sorry, was I supposed to be melting down? I mean.... nooo! Feige don’t do it, it’s not fair! Inflation! Exchange rates! China! 3D! IMAX! A re-release! 9 months in theaters! The recession! Nooooooooo!

Just imagine watching this guy's afternoon 0.0 look at all the work done o.O wtf is this? Geek tragedy? I bet this news actually improved his day .... why cant people like him display same level of creativity somewhere that matters? Or in public with a huge sign so we dont have to hunt him down with rat poison or face lotions... 😕here be numbers.. not who is n1... avatar rerelease will probably help avatar retake the spot..so why the lack of oxygen?0.0 imagine they add eternity or living tribunal? Silver surfer? Galactus? Doesnt that improve the hype for future? Isnt that a good thing while we also get, you know---MORE NUMBERS!?:/ and it gets JC pumping..

I see this as an absolute win! *.*

Nothing flies over my head.. my hands are too fast and i would catch it.... but here we are xD

Edit: my bad.. this is about aladdin being an orphan and having "scary white teeth"...gotcha xD

If it has only small boost from homecoming, I think it would be ok to conclude the lack of IM had an impact. if it opens like what @Menor is saying, I would say there was no impact.

I disagree and to picture it i can safely say i forgot what was the argument xD so much for epic IM impact.. but that is beside the point.. these are just opinions.. whatever the numbers end up being so much has happened since then that its hard to clearly call IM having any impact at all..my opinion and your opinion are only opinions BECAUSE these things are unquantifiable...and are accidentaly opposite ends of the spectrum.. if they were facts sure np..but you said _for sure_ which just didnt sit well with me^^ i am sure you meant the same(high probability or something), but just wasnt thinking too much about it:)

Completely different example entirely. Most those records have been made by a trickle. That's how it's always been and how it works for any kind of athletics.

That has not been the case here. Titanic didn't just beat Jurassic Park, it doubled its run and Avatar made half as much again as Titanic. It trounced them so soundly that it took a decade or more for either to be beaten.

So now you might have Endgame and at best it might trickle past it to nab the record. One that's stood for 10 years would be beaten purely by a trickle and because of inflation. It'd be #1 and yet would still be nowhere near as impressive as Avatar.

Avatar should remain#1 until something soundly beats it just as was the case when Star Wars trounced it's domestic record.

Numbers! Who cares who is on top? Just give as biggest numberzzz... this isnt godfather site... we are not here for merit.. if minions 2 becomes n1 ww its not like it isnt too late for the world xD it will just give as a hell of a bo run to follow^^ noone can take away avatar/titanic time.. i was there xD its mine!!! Unforgattable...so stop clinging.  Elsa said let it go.. who are we to argue?

    Hindsight is 20/20.

This movie could have gone either way. Potential for BatB or Cinderella. Everyone should just enjoy the fact it’s going to comfortably cross 300m.

Oh... but thats the issue.. if you only have hindsight... thats bad... you can have variations.. just not complete misses... i missed mine for aladdin.. but not by that much... my prediction upon news regarding its release were batb+... come 2019 they were 150m 4d and refused to fall below 120m.. hoping for 130m... sometimes its just stubborness/ego or even blindness/out of touch with reality that keeps you from succeeding

Must be great to be king of assumptions lol. Most would say that cheering for a films failure is highly unlike me, but that comes with a long time of box office tracking and wanting the best  gross possible.  400m for Spiderman is setting it up for failure based on the past behavior of the franchise. Presales and long opening week included in that as well.

If you are not cheering for it to fail then i was wrong and i apologize.. also.. i started tracking box office on my automatic phone each tuesday back in 1995.. so i have exp dont worry xD experience when it comes to box office dont mean much(i aint a prophet)... all my experience has only led me on so far.. and its just a hunch... then life introduces you to places like bom, bop, the-numbers, different analysis, deadline.. then people like asgardians, deep wang, menor, porthos and most of the people here show up..sorry if i forgot to mention any of the bot pillars.. then you realize it all adds up bit by bit, but never a full picture.. just that hunch getting smoother.. but there is always that itch.. and even tho i never expected ffh to reach 400m and i still dont, going just by ps is a nono.. why? Experience tells me so...not alot of 6 day comps/2019 summer LOL can swing both ways/ EG halo/ BIG live action draught might cause thirst?/ tom holand zendaya shipping-twittersphere/ some sequel bump/clues to bigger MCU picture... so that is why based on my experience i think you should update yours^^ but just up to a hunch.. you can still have it your ways.. i am in no way positive about this because my _true_ barometar is how much i want to see a film..compare this to endgame? A joke

Man, I wrote the movie off from the awful marketing. From Aladdin and Jasmine wearing more clothes to satisfy worldwide modesty standards, to Will Smith's genie, to the terrible trailers, my expectations were very low. I'll be enjoying it at home at least, seems like everyone is enjoying it. I missed out on The Greatest Showman too. Rarely is the divide between critics and audiences as high as it is with musicals it seems, and IMO the marketing for musicals is still done wrong and they treat them like regular movies.

That is such a wrong judgment i cant see any redemption... is it a bad bandvagon... lack of different perspective... the only thing that could redeem you or anyone else who thought that would be if you expected 35-40% lesser gross.. since even now the effects of its true potential are visible/squandered... too bad .. and sad:/ not that its a great movie(its just ok).. but we could have had 1 more 2019 1b+ earner(still possible, but it could have gone to 1.3b) if people on the internet and press that follows them(vicious positive feedback loop) had better things to do than oblige monday afternoon bore and feelfeels 😕

learn something from this.. gauge yourself by mistakes and those strange feelings that arise when saying something out of place.. those are red flags
