This is such a funny circumstance. You’ve got all these weekend records that have stood for years and years, and then the 3rd highest WW grossing movie comes and knocks them down.

Never seen anything like it in any market that I can recall

It's happening in few more LA markets.

You didn't have to give me example like that. You just don't want to understand my point. What you said is not just true for JAPAN, it's true for here in India or anywhere else too. In India too, we had 6 options of tickets -  4DX Hindi (700), 4DX English (750), 3D English (450), 3D Hindi (450), 2D Hindi (350), 2D English (350).

But, Even though ticket options were there, SHOWs were limited.

When I really went into to watch the Movie in 2D English - there was simply 1 show @ 2PM in theatre, which I didn't like or was full. There were dozens of Shows every half an hour for 4DX & 3D though. So, Even when I didn't want to watch Avatar 2 in 3D - I had to.  I simply had no option.

Now, My Ticket price which if given option could have been 350 turned into 700.

I am simply speaking with experience.  Ofcourse, if you say it happens only in India - you maybe right. but I don't think so. I have seen people complain who were not Indians in these forums.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here honestly, hollywood films do not get enhanced ticket prices in japan. The difference in atp here is mostly just family appeal and premium screens presence (suzume's being so low because it almost immediately had to share with SD and then they went to ava2 instead).

Stuff like MCU films is playing to a niche audience so you're not get any families (kids and elderly have discounted tickets, teens as well iirc). Top gun exploded in premiums as well. Baseline price is 1900 yen, lower with discounts, higher on premiums.

Ava2 had higher atp due to 3D and basically selling only premium screens there. Films like gundam/evangelion/aniplex releases (except DS due to distribution being handled by toho instead) have premium ticket prices and they get higher atps than A2 even with no 3D whatsoever for example lol.

Ok, MCU is niche. Avatar 2 is 3D. What about TGM?  What about FB? What about JW? Oh, Well Most HLW movies mostly are catered toward niche... but then, so are most Japanese movies - they are also catered towards fans...

    Let's just See - 2023

    ¥1.384 billion ($11.0 million) / 966,367 [498] - Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween (Toho)  ATP -1432

    HLW Top 4

    Spoiler

    ¥939.0 million ($7.1 million) / 603,015 [976] - Jurassic World: Dominion (Toho-Towa)  ATP - 1557
    ¥905.0 million ($7.9 million) / 584,000 [896] - Spider-Man: No Way Home (Sony)  ATP - 1626
    ¥824.7 million ($6.5 million) / 524,843 [745] - Top Gun: Maverick (Towa Pictures)  ATP - 1572
    ¥785.6 million ($6.3 million) / 503,955 [895] - Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (Warner Bros.) ATP - 1560

Maybe you are right, HLW movies don't have added premium but they certainly do have high ATP for whatever reason. Maybe, Japan is a market where most movies that do good aren't simply catered towards Adults.

So, HLW needs to consider that in mind that they are competing against a market dominated by movies that are preferred by Kids/Elders and they should lower ticket prices anyway.

To be fair, Even Indian Movie RRR has 1600 ATP.

  8. Avatar 2 -  1860 Yen

    Dr. Strange - 1610 Yen

    NWH - 1550 Yen

    TGM - 1530 Yen

First Slam Dunk - 1450 Yen

One Piece: Red - 1360 Yen

    Suzume - 1340 Yen

I do think Hollywood needs to lower their ATP in Japan, if they wanna compete with local Movies.

Some people will say Avatar 2 deserved that ATP and it's innovative and what not but really, having too high ATP also isn't good, if you can't convince Audience of that Country that it's something Novel. It's better to sell movies at 1200 ATP have 5M tickets sold than Sell a movie at 1500 ATP and not even half ticket sold.

JAPAN is one country where things have been almost stagnant in terms of rise in Individual Income - I don't see the need that HLW movies have to keep increasing their tix price every few months.

Do you think $700M in Europe and $200M in LA are possible ?

    On 08th Jan: 498.8M

    On 15th Jan: 565.2M

    On 19th Jan: 610.4M

    On 29th Jan: 642.5M

Supposedly, This weekend will be 20M+ & Weekdays have been 10M, So it will be touching 670M+ already. 700M seems very much possible, once you add CIS states in.

In LA though, 128M --> 148M ---> 160M ----> 169M. This Weekend result will put it around 176M+  200M looks tough because Antman unlike in Europe will completely shut it down in LA markets.

anyway you got any websiet of LA market like chile ,peru and colombia regular update?

I remeber before covid-19 era they all got regular update, now is just gone

Once Exhibidor went under, No Site updates 'em now.  Credit to ComScore, it doesn't want sites to put those number out~ that's what I am told.

I do get Weekend numbers every week for most markets. I simply don't update here because people don't like or care, unless Avatar or their fav. movie is doing great.

You sure the previous record is Avatar 2 not other leggy run movie?

Most leggy movie in recent years in LA were Children's Movies - CoCo/Minions/Toy Story/Ice Age/Lion King. They can't compete with Ticket PRICES of Avatar 2 are so high compared to Blockbusters of last few years that even if it's Admits are lower the GROSS is coming out way higher.

NWH already had higher ATP than Endgame but Avatar 2's ATP is almost similarly higher than NWH.

They may have more Admits in 5th/6th/7th weekends than Avatar 2 but not in Gross.

Only reason PiB2 (which is Children's movie too) is breaking Avatar 2's record because it's Admit are way higher than Avatar itself.

  12. 27 minutes ago, Sophia Jane said:

Avatar beating 1.4B RUB in CIS region…All time highest grosser, that’s insane because the previous record holder Spiderman No way home only have 575m RUB…Avatar gonna try triple the previous record

Russia will doing $100m or more if it release

This is wrong. What you are looking at 1.405B Rubles is not just CIS but Russia included (667m Rubles there). So, CIS Gross is 738m Rubles.

    Total for CIS + Russia:  Gross - 1,405,338,824 Rubles  &   Admits - 3,672,776

Compared to Cheburashka, whose ATP is 306 Rubles vs.  Avatar's ATP is 386 Rubles ~

    Titanic (Sweden) - SKR171.8M (Original Run - excl. 2012 Re-release)

That SKR171.8M is from Variety International's yearly update. Those numbers were updated by mid of 1999:

Titanic (1997) - 173,702,468 SEK (With 2,166,584 Admits) & 2012 3D re-release had 68,949 Admits. So, Titanic is sitting at 180M SEK. It will become highest Grossing movie of all time, if it isn't already in Sweden once 25th Anniversary version releases.
