It's definitely paying for the sins of Eternals, Love and Thunder, Quantumania and yes despite people denying it because it made a very frontloaded 950M, Multiverse of Madness. But it can only pay for the opening weekend. The word of mouth is all on the film itself.

Dont forget the shows, secret invasion was the nail in the coffin

    The character just doesn’t resonate.

People don’t like Carol herself as a character.

The ultimate Captain Marvel fangirl as a character was never going to land.

It worked for Tony/Peter cause Peter has no adult male figure in his life, Tony was a charismatic multibillionaire with a cool suit he built himself, and audiences loved RDJ Tony.

    Kamala loves CM why exactly?

    Cause she’s the strongest Avenger?

I didnt mind CM as a character, but thats a point i agree. She wasnt build up as charismatic leader like cap or a symbol of justice/hope like cap or superman.

Something like a captain america fan girl would give a lot more meat to the script.

Dont know how the comics handle it.

  3. I would argue it was Eternals, shang-chi and black widow. Regardless of the reception was already the lack of direction present and this were the movies where i started to see "you dont need to watch it" anyway, also by MCU fans defending for example eternals performance. This kind makes a break of the interconnected universe advantage.

I remember how big of a deal MCU post-credits were and even the one of eternals, was seen as a big spoiler. Now its hard getting excited for beast if the last 5 scenes lead to nowhere. Its not even seen as a big thing.

Yeah if doctor strange 2 and quantumania would have been great it would still push MCU but it didnt start with them.

Deadpool is gonna be massive. There’s some weird undertones to people trying doubt that movie. Lol

    Which weird undertones?

People are just throwing buzzwords around to make the movie a big hit - Cameos!!!, X-Men!!!, Multiverse!!!, Social Media!!!.

All of the aspects failed in other movies and if you clump them together it wont make 1b.

And now it also has to overcome MCU fatigue and an R-Rating.

Also, based on every audience score metric we have and Mario being animated with an entire month on the cal all to itself, I see absolutely no way it misses a 3x 5 day multi. Anyone who thinks that’s unlikely isn’t paying attention at all to how these massive openers that get aces on audience reception metrics always perform.

Every massive opener with good audience reception had a 3x multiplier? And how many of them were 5 days x 3?

  6. It does look good, but also pretty generic. Awkward teenager gets a superpower, cant control it, wacky situation, bad guys arrive, now he develops self-esteem, controls his power and saves the day.

The blue beetle powers are not that interesting or not interesting enough that i would watch the movie in cinemas. Sword is honestly just boring, i would like the idea more that the scarab has only defend powers and he needs to rethink them/use them cleverly.

Not really, D&D is a niche stuff, it's not huge movie IP, otherwise it would've done much better with its reception and Paramount faith in it.

Its niche compared to marvel, nintendo or DC, but not to the most other movies coming out, like Dungeons and Dragons franchise is a lot bigger than Avatar the franchise (was).

It's kinda sad you have to beg people to watch a good movie and then they complain Hollywood doesn't make good movies anymore and always blame marketing when a good movie flops, connecting with audiences without huge IP looks even more like uphill battle these days.

Eh, the biggest bomb 2023 until now is a DC movie and Dungeon and Dragons isnt some weird nerdthing anymore, its easily one of the bigger IP movie.

You standard for MCU is just 'not rooten?"

15 years?I never said Marvel film before AEG is shit,Marvel used to make great movie every time, everything changed after Endgame.

I love MCU before AEG,just let the story keep at that point, marvel's brand power become worse because of bad movie, you don't understand?

nowadays MCU just destroy my childhood.

Eh before Endgame or rather before Eternals, Marvel just had the "benefit of the doubt" but it wasnt like every movie was great blockbuster cinema, especially not something like Thor 2. And if managed a continuous storyline after endgame even doods like eternals would have been just a footnote of the MCU. But they didnt manage the create a narrative storyline and the individual projects also didnt live up to the hype except no way hope. And nowadays no way homelooks like an outliner that it seems more like a spider-man movie or even a sony movie more than a MCU movie.

The marvel movies, the good ones and the bad ones, lived from their MCU connections, but that doesnt seem to exist anymore (atleast in phase 4) and some camoes are not enough to cover it. I honestly dont think the outlook of the next phase would be much better if phase 4 would have been better received.

The discussion about MCU flopping is a important one, not because Ant-Man will flop, relative of its budget, but because a comeback is extremely hard after it reached this stage. The performace of the last marvel movies in South Korea is a perfect example for that.

  10. Anecdotal from germany. Avatar 2 has by far the broadest appeal i ever saw in my friendscircle. Many marvel fans which of course are always hyped about the next mcu movie, but many people who dont even watch many movies - bond, marvel, harry potter, star wars or so on -  wanted to watch Avatar 2. Not even hyped about it like we didnt talk about the movie before the release but now most of them are interesed in it.

  11. Watched it, i thought it was good to great and even the most parts i didnt like werent really bad, but just not in my interest like family dramas, though dialogue could definitely be better.

I watched it at 13:35 and there were many old people there, like over half looked like seniors. For the time not that surprising, but didnt see something like that for a marvel movie.

Oppenheimer trailer ran before the movie, i have no idea what its about, but i think i saw Nolans name like 5 times. I wanna dance ran too looked boring as hell, honestly, like Hollywood is just desperate for finding somebody for a biopic.

Guys, it's only been 90 minutes. And honestly, I don't remember any crashes for Strange and Thor, but the warning bells weren't being rung there. So why do it now? Please relax, because the universe doesn't need this annoying Monday morning quarterbacking.

If it ends up domestic around Doctor Strange 2 or even near Thor: LaT, this would be hella disappointing.

What was opposed was the not the potential of $700M, but the absolute certainty implied. Because “experienced box office trackers” know there is uncertainty, in that we are literally trying to predict the future of collective human behavior

LMAO since when, this forum is throwing words like "locked" around at every opportunity and people are definitely not keeping an inherent "uncertainty" in mind then discussing future performances. Just visit discussion like Endgame vs Avatar for an example.
