Are you people really think this is gonne open below a Doctor Strange movie?. After all the Oscars and the 700M of the first movie?. Why? I really don't understand.  This trailer is something of the  smartest thing i ever seen, they play everything right. I don't know if it can be bigger in the total but the opening will be bigger than the first movie.

I dont think many people who go to marvel movies care about the oscars. And people who care about the oscars dont go to a supehero movie in a 30 movie + 5 shows franchise because it won the costume oscar.

Its not impossible to recreate the first movies success but its just unlikely, it was a special situation - i dont expect Avatar 2 rising because Avatar made so much money or Joker 2 or Top Gun 3.

Teaser Trailer was good, but i am kinda numb to the Marvel hype machine. Go back to like the Eternals trailer reveal and people are gushing about how goddamn good the trailer is and it broke some kind of online metric and the cast is so great and the internal test screening were great and of course are the social media reactions praising it. It is nearly always the same procedure.

I really don't understand how the reception of this film has caused people to act like the entirety of Phase 4 has had a similar reception. I especially don't see how this movie is the one causing that when Eternals reception was much more muted from fans and outwardly negative from critics.

Eternals had several excuses, director unfamiliar with big budgets, many new characters, tons of lore, high-concept ideas and well you can just forget about this movie. There are really no excuses for Thor 4.

Could the fact that Tim Allen isn't Buzz Light year anymore have something to do with this number? I've never been into these movies(saw the TS1 once when I was a kid) but even I know from pop culture that Tim Allen is kinda synonymous with Buzz Lightyear and Tom Hanks as Woody.  It seems like it would be like making a Shrek movie without Mike Myers or Cameron Diaz.

the movie isnt doing hot internationally ether, there just isnt much interested in the movie

But the advantage of streaming is that there's no fixed time when you can watch. Once the show/episode drops, you can watch any time, any day, any week, etc. So it's pretty easy to work a trip to the theater into binge schedule.

So doubtful this will have an effect of a major sport event.

Also, Obi Wan audience is closer to Top Gun audience than DS2 audience. ST audience skewed older so old fans are still the staple of SW.

I really really doubt Obi Wan has a closer audience to top gun than DS2. Star Wars franchise is too big to just being attributed to the original movies. Its like saying MCU should skew older because the Avengers comic is so old. Especially that the prequels and Obi Wan became that popular in the last years because the kids who watched the prequels are adults now and becoming nostalgic.

LOL that title. Reactions are nothing like Eternals which got about 60% "boring af" reactions and 40% "still processing" reactions. MoM got neither of that. It's called thrilling and people know exactly what they liked and what they didn't, none of that "processing" vague shit that they throw when they don't like something but are afraid to say it.

MoM is exactly what they said it would be before Raimi joined in - a horror. Now it's Raimi horror so definitely a better thing than Derrikson horror. Not for everyone but as others said, MCU has to take risks to stay relevant. Frankly, I would be worried if this got unanimous praise cause that would mean cookie cutter. You can't do cookie cutter madness.

Plus Olsen is praised so all is good in my book. Exactly what I expected. Bring on the boxoffice.

You remember it wrong. Eternals reaction were also overall positive with only a few straight up negative ones and several "its good but..." or nothingburgern like "this is gonna split fans/this is the most un-mcu mcu movie".

And people on this forum also started saying that reactions are actually good anyway.

It will be so close to already say goodbye. To pass Avatar it just needs a 2.9x multiplier from its 14M 6th weekend. And with zero competition, I can picture a 10M 7th weekend for NWH (30% drop). Even a better drop is in play.

Other December hits after 6th weekend:

    Aquaman added 19M after 7.2M weekend (2.7x)

TFA grossed another 57M after 14.1M weekend (4x)

    TLJ grossed 16M after a 6.5M weekend (2.5x)
    Rogue One grossed 20M after a 7.2M weekend (2.8x)

Until now, NWH has delivered better legs than TLJ, Aquaman and RO.

What do you mean with better legs? Aquaman had 4,94x multiplier and RO 3,43. Its overall legs will only be better than TLJ.

Also, there were indeed less subscribers when Godzilla/MK came out - but there was also way less theaters open and the vaccine wasn't widely available, which drove more people towards streaming as the primary option.

There were less subscribers so if the people didnt pirate the movie, the audience for HBOmax movies was not bigger during spring/before vaccine.

This isnt even starting the discussion that because fewer people were on HBOmax Godzilla/MK had to convince the people to subscribe to a new service, while Matrix just has to convince them to watch it.

Also, why do people keep saying this movie will drive subscribers for any movie opening early digitally? I can guarantee that most movies will not do so. You really think Encanto will push people over? So since it's gonna be spending the rest of its life on Disney+, they really should not have rushed it. The most high profile animated film failing to make $100m is depressing for the medium's future.

Its not always driving new subscribers but also keeping the ones you have. People subscribed for Raja or Luca, but they are not keep their subscription over years for one-two movies.
