Indian film industry is such a crucial piece of art and culture to the world.

It isn't substandard film industry, in fact it represent the Indian culture and their way of demonstrating visual art deeply that I have my high respect to indian film industry. Indian really use their visual style to stand out as a notable civilisation..

It can come near to 100m admit in China today. Chinese have great respect of Titanic back then til now,

Also, Titanic basically become all time champion in every corner of the world with huge margin(oftenly double of the previous record without ER bump) during 1997 , including SA and every Asian country(except india), something JP, Avatar, EG or ET failed to achieve in their respective era.  Not to mention that award season sweep.

Also, to discount Titanic success because of romance was way popular back then is such a unfair treatment. I can argue that too to EG that its 2.8b was not impressive at all because superhero genre is such a trend now.

    This is so flawed.

As flawed as claiming the world is so prosperous  , if you minus the poor.

Titanic popular in India, too,Titanic is popular everywhere

    but this is Endgame thread

Cause Romance movies were big thing in a india at that time. Highest grossing movie were Hum Apke hain kaun, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Romantic movies were fad. Indepence Day was not big at all in India. Jurassic Park might have been successful but not that much i guess

so there are no Hollywood film succeed in india before Titanic??That's so crazy, what about 007?Did James Bond movie in 1960 popular in india?

  4. Charlie,I know why I am wrong in Titanic india number,Titanic release in india in 3 times,1998,1999,2012,I only count 1998

    First+second run(1998-1999): 19.5m admission/60crore/(olive's number)

And I found a local news at 1998,said Titanic was the first foreign film to make a splash in India.

    why "first"?

so I wonder know Jurassic Park,Indenpence day performance in India, can you give me some number?

  5. Lion King already Top 3 of all time in South Africa, gross 101m rand, after Black Panther(108m) and Avengers Endgame(103m),may pass EG next week and become biggest release of the year, and Lion King still have chance to overtake Black Panther to become highest grossing film in South Afirca

I don't think it has enough gas left. For some reason this seems to be a contrarian position, but to pass JW it needs $163m more and it just grossed $38m globally. With summer weekdays winding down, I would be surprised if it passes JW. Grosses in Japan and Italy (the two regions it needs to perform well in in order to pass JW) tend to collapse when summer ends. It can do it, but its not a lock

    Japan$35m

    NA $30m

    Italy$20m

    OS-Japan-Italy:$40m

    Total:$1500m+35m+30m+20m+40m=$1625m

I don't know where you got that total from but it's wrong. New cume is € 11.062.431. The Lion King is already the #5 movie of the year (a few hundred K's behind Dumbo and FFH) and its opening has yet to end.

1 IL RE LEONE (THE LION KING) 21/08/2019 USA WALT DISNEY S.M.P. ITALIA € 2.744.269 381.517
    2 FAST & FURIOUS - HOBBS & SHAW (FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW) 08/08/2019 USA UNIVERSAL S.R.L. € 173.073 23.132
    3 IL SIGNOR DIAVOLO 22/08/2019 ITA 01 DISTRIBUTION € 123.013 17.276
    4 CRAWL - INTRAPPOLATI 15/08/2019 USA 20TH CENTURY FOX ITALIA S.P.A. € 55.539 7.675
    5 LA RIVINCITA DELLE SFIGATE (BOOKSMART) 21/08/2019 USA EAGLE PICTURES S.P.A. € 50.058 7.073
    6 MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL 25/07/2019 USA WARNER BROS ITALIA S.P.A. € 30.550 4.245
    7 SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME 10/07/2019 USA WARNER BROS ITALIA S.P.A. € 28.456 3.950
    8 THE NEST (IL NIDO) 15/08/2019 ITA VISION DISTRIBUTION € 18.851 2.591
    9 TOY STORY 4 26/06/2019 USA WALT DISNEY S.M.P. ITALIA € 9.813 1.437
    10 L'OSPITE - UN VIAGGIO TRA I DIVANI DEGLI ALTRI 22/08/2019 ITA MOOD FILM S.R.L. € 9.125 1.301

Kind of a weak increase for The Lion King (+4.5%) but it's in line with the general weakness of this Sunday (+15% for H&S, +20% for Crawl and FFH, +25% for MIB and Booksmart; even the family oriented Toy Story 4, despite posting poor numbers and being the best candidate for a strong increase, only rose less than 40% from yesterday).

    maybe I was wrong
