  2. In its second week Fantastic Beasts 3 dropped only by 35% and therefore the total is already at 6.2M euros (7M dollars), in the list of the highest grossing movies since the beginning of the pandemic it has already passed House of Gucci, Death on the Nile at 5M and Uncharted 6M, while during this week it will pass Venom 2 and Dune at 7M and probably also No Time to Die and Eternals at 8M

The "fight" with The Batman is going to be very interesting, at the moment it is at 10.2M euros and shouldn't finish much above...

This was also a weekend full of interesting releases like "Il Sesso degli Angeli" at 700k euros or "The Northman" and "The Lost City" both at 400k

  3. I've read that the Batman and Morbius will finally be released in Hong Kong during this week, and they both need a few million for different reasons: one to exceed the 400M overseas and the other to try to reach at least the 170M WW and not look like the worst flop ever for a superhero movie

Then I read that also Marry Me should be released (even though Valentine's Day was two months ago), can anyone confirm?

NTTD is still waiting for an updated total that will likely bring its cume to $780M.

That's exactly what I wanted to write, BoxOfficeMojo is getting more and more terrible and in the case of No Time To Die it stopped updating the total in mid-December, while the film continued to gross until the end of January

Recently they also did it with No Way Home stopping at 1.088 overseas, I hope that sooner or later they will fix the figures but I wouldn't hope too much: Demon Slayer is still at 450M while in reality it has exceeded 500M almost a year ago...

I don't think it's a coincidence that the most terrible results are the ones in US/Canada and UK, I'm sure these countries are the only ones where the J.K. Rowling and Johnny Depp/Amber Heard controversies are really popular and not simple discussions on some social networks

    >Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween delivered the biggest opening weekend of 2022, easily, dominating the box-office by selling 966,367 admissions over the weekend frame across 498 screens, and 1,321,944 admissions over the three-day weekend. The 25th entry in franchise achieved the third biggest opening in the series in revenue / fifth biggest in admissions, as well as the third biggest opening weekend in April. The immediate goal will be ¥9 billion ($70 million+), but with little competition this upcoming Golden Week, there's a pretty good shot at it outgrossing Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire's ¥9.37 billion to become the highest grossing film in the series. No guarantee, and perhaps slightly unlikely (Sapphire received a premium format expansion later in its run, whereas Halloween is already playing on all of them), but it's certainly doable.

The continued strength of this franchise is truly astounding. It went from pretty regular earnings around ¥3/4 billion for about a decade before suddenly becoming a blockbuster franchise in 2016 (¥5 billion+), and then almost immediately began to approach the uber-blockbuster milestone (¥10 billion) just two years later.

    >Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore held well, and its second weekend is the biggest for a Hollywood film since 2019. Doubling up over its opening weekend, it should go into Golden Week in two weeks pretty strong. It'd be a bit surprising if it doesn't reach the ¥5 billion ($40 million) milestone, and may go a bit higher to like ¥5.5 billion ($45 million) or so. Japan was the second film's biggest overseas market, and it'll be once again for the third film as it should become Hollywood's first blockbuster in 2.5 years.

    >Sing 2 is holding on well enough to lock-up a total above ¥3 billion (~$25 million) now. Again, this is a pretty steep drop from the original (40%), but Japan has comfortably become its second best overseas market (behind the UK) despite that. So, disappointing compared to its predecessor, but compared to everywhere else (and given how Hollywood and younger-skewing films in general have struggled recently), definitely a respectable hit.

    >Doraemon: Nobita's Little Star Wars 2021 isn't going to earn much more than ¥2.5 billion, putting it behind the 2020 release and both 2021 releases. I think there's just been too many examples (four now) of this franchise beginning to drop-off, likely because it skews so young in a rapidly aging and declining population, to find an excuse for the lower numbers now. Maybe it can get back to ¥3-4 billion next year or the year after, but I think the franchise peak is well behind it at this point.

    >The Last 10 Years has already earned way more than expected, and if Warner Bros. keeps it just wide enough throughout Golden Week, its chances of reaching ¥3 billion (~$25 million) are still very much alive.

    >Jujutsu Kaisen 0 managed to hold onto the 10th position for a second week, achieving an outstanding 17-consecutive weeks in the Top 10! It's only ¥39 million away from becoming the 15th highest-grossing film of all-time, which it should do shortly into Golden Week (probably at the very start, April 29th or that same weekend). Its admissions are up to 9,600,956.

Jujutsu Kaisen stayed in the top 10 longer than The Batman despite being out 3 months earlier, really impressive

Anyway, with this incredible success of the Detective Conan films I've decided to watch some of them and I see that many agree that "The Panthom of Baker Street" is the best one, but what are the others recommended?

  7. €3.5M debut for Fantastic Beasts 3, although the film is in theaters from Wednesday instead of the usual Thursday and therefore making comparisons is a bit difficult

Morbius on the other hand grossed 200k with another >60% drop, it will end slightly above the €3M which is bad but we certainly aren't the market where it did worse

At the end I noticed that No Way Home this weekend has ended its run having left the last theaters with a final total of €24.656M and 3.004M admissions, but it's also true that Cinetel doesn't cover 100% of the box office so the real numbers are slightly higher 😅

Since I made this top 10 for another thread I post it here as well

    Top 10 Superhero movies EU+UK

    1) Endgame (2019) - 420M

    2) No Way Home (2021) - about 350M

    3) Infinity War (2018) - 315M

    4) Joker (2019) - 290M

    5) The Dark Knight Rises (2012) - 260M

    6) Spider-Man 3 (2007) - 245M

    7) The Avengers (2012) - 240M

    8)The Dark Knight (2008) - 235M

    9) Age of Ultron (2015) - 220M

    10) Iron Man 3 (2008) - 200M

Some time ago I predicted about 200M for The Batman in EU+UK (when my WW prediction was still 850M...), but unfortunately it won't be able to reach it and therefore enter this top 10

It's a real shame because this is a great film, but probably too long for possible re-watches by the fans or possible visions by the undecided/not interested public

Very nice, The Batman opened with 700k and recently passed the 10 million, Fantastic Beasts won't have many problem in doing the same

HBO Max premiere on April 18th confirmed (at least in Europe).

I've read that in UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria HBO Max doesn't exist yet, so at least in those countries the box office won't be affected (but English speaking countries could still use a VPN, I think)

I though id start this considering the movie will be out in 2 months and since this could very well be the biggest OS grosser of this (calendar) year:

For comparison here are the totals of JW and JW:FK with and without China:

    JW (2015): 1.018B (with China) / 812,8M (without China)

    JW:FK (2018): 892,7M (with China) / 647,2M (without China)

I personally think Fallen Kingdoms OS numbers are a fair target for it.

My prediction is 700M OS without China, and possibly 1B including it

Other international totals as per @GiteshPandya:

    Spain $11.5M

    Italy $11.1M

    Saudi Arabia $9.9M

    Japan $9.8M

    Korea $7.7M

In Italy it will probably end up with 11 million euros and therefore 12 million dollars, I hope that after being overtaken by Spain we won't lose other positions  ; )

Apparently bad weather in Europe affected the box office of movies earlier this week. Is that still a factor? That combined with Covid (even if restrictions are being lifted) would hamper overall gross.

"Bad weather in Europe" doesn't mean much because we are talking about a Continent, and without the modern media for example the whole of UK and Ireland could sink into the ocean without anyone here in Italy noticing 😅
