saw Jodorowsky's dune, pretty good
I know its not as simple as that; but considering the way some are reacting to this movie (I've seen some "best sci-fi movie ever" type comments), imagine how people might have reacted to a Dune adaptation that achieved everything Jodorowsky wanted to achieve
impossible not to think about it when the director guy was speaking about assembling a team of "spiritual warriors" to change the world

There were rumors way back that the plot of this film was going to be the spider women protecting baby Peter.
did that not end up being the case?
shame, seemed somewhat interesting

the plot seems somewhat straightforward, does anyone know what leads people to say it has no commercial prospects? outside of the gimmick with the audience member which probably wont happen outside of festivals and if it does it'll just be some messing around with the aspect ratio

The Marvels did drop over 75% just four months ago in its second weekend.
That would be a horrifically awful hold that would put $100M total in jeopardy though if it holds up. Sony would be nuts to make another at this point knowing the potential isn't there unless they really slash the budget down, that's now 2 out of 3 modern attempts at this IP that will end up certified money-losers.
how awkward of an endpoint (story-wise) would frozen empire be?

Subject to MTC1 actuals which I will get tomorrow, $9.25-9.4M previews.
Just to reiterate. The $10M number reported for previews is just $10M. We never get actual previews from the studio but they are just clubbed with opening day, for which we get actuals.
So this isn't a fudge like what Sony did last week for Ghostbusters where they inflated actual dailies for every day of the weekend.
if they can +600k for monsters, why didnt they go +300k for flash?

I suppose there is a diff between March 2021 and Oct 2021 in BO health.
That said, I did thought Dune 2 OW be lower than Dune 1 real value OW but seeing Dune 2 performance elsewhere, I feel Dune 2 OW > Dune 1 real value OW. So probably $60-70M in normal BO times.
how much higher could no way home have gone?

how did evangelion do last week?
was it its first ever domestic theatrical release?
-
the 5 seconds or so where gosling included his female co-stars into "I'm just Ken" are sensational
people should build entire ideologies and philosophies around them
-
silly question, was this movie initially envisioned as a straight-to-streaming tv show?
-
looks pretty good; definitely can see this being one of my very limited trips to the movies this year

so Ariana is white again?
thought the MJ movie was coming out in 2025

an article mentioned that universal really wanted the movie to be ready for summer 2025 and that's one of the reasons leitch wasn't hired
why does universal so desperately want the movie to be ready by then?

after how excellent minions 2 (and its trailers) were, I'm disappointed by how lazy this looks, even the song editing sucks
wasn't this movie supposed to feature Vector?

the razzies somehow nominated Russell Crowe in The Pope’s Exorcist in the worst actor category

I can’t remember another year a sweep in the major cats was more obvious as soon as the movie released since Return of the King actually.
doesn't deserve it, not talking about the awards themselves, but it doesn't deserve return of the king treatment

quorum-people-who-pretend-to-not-be-quorum-people, how is this doing in comparison to morbius? dont know if it'll translate to tickets sold, but it sure feels like people only a very aware of this movie

never realized people were serious (or at least are pretending to be serious) about the barbie cast being serious contenders in the acting categories
sure, all the performances were pretty good and the idea of Gosling taking home gold for that was funny, but I was never under impression that any of the actors delivered top 5 performances of the year

empire city is always going on about how direct-to-digital movies never end up having any cultural impact
is there any reason to think that this wouldn't have exploded the way it did had it not had a theatrical release?

Joker: Folie a Deux | October 4, 2024 | Lady Gaga is Harley Quinn in this 200M+ musical sequel

looks ok, I guess, but I really wanted to see a musical sequence in action
the callback to the stair dance (they both do the exact same kick dance move) is embarrassing and has me worried that they might be taking itself too seriously; all the nominations might have gone to Philips's head
without the absurdity and the humor that is derived from it, joker is a bang average scorcese-wannabe crazy person drama; if they are really going to start treating the staircase scene as this super strong dramatic moment worth referencing as anything more than a fun/funny moment, then I think they've gotten the wrong message from joker's success
