Minions are big, but DM 3 showed some signs of fatigue from the main franchise. That had a 5-day opening to $99M. If my $65M opening plays out, it will go to $110M 5-day. Those 4th of July mid-week releases have around 4.25x+ legs. With no competition, DM4 will have a bit better legs at around 4.5x. Think this is fairly reasonable.

Conjuring Universe entries usually came out about 1.25ish years after the last one, so we still have time. Of course there are some outliers (ACH only 10 months after The Nun). Only main issue is now, Conjuring 1 & 2 we're able to successfully generate spin-off characters. 3 had nothing audiences really gravitated to any spin-off character. Conjuring 4 should be filming soon and hopefully some more can come out of the franchise, but some series aren't made to last forever.

Anyone getting Angry Birds & Epic vibes from Garfield? Gonna open to $35M-$50M, have two good weeks, get hit hard by Pixar, have two more weeks, then hit again by Illumination. Have 3x+/-.2 legs.

Migration released to PVOD on its 5th Monday as well. It ended up still making 1.34x+ its gross upon the PVOD release. If KFP4 follows suit, it will end up at around $220M-$222M. Given slightly more screen competition, the calendar layout, and Garfield will be cutting off the legs a bit sooner than KFP4 cut off Migration's legs, this will most likely end up a little lower around $205M-$210M.

I hear a lot of the concerns and complaints of the weekend and of course I wished the new outings had better openings, but the witness were on the wall here. Monkey Man did have a great marketing start and terrific WOM from SXSW, but it went nowhere. There was no build up socially within the last week or so for this title to breakout. Positive reviews are important, but you need momentum and it felt like Uni never got the film into wider awareness or the right audiences just weren't as driven to see the movie. For The First Omen, Disney just messed up on the marketing. No real push for weeks and only let reviews out 2 days before opening? Not a great plan. Like Monkey Man, horror fans need to know your movie is out there. I only saw one trailer for this at All of Us Strangers and have rarely seen this movie talked about outside Twitter. These days, it feels that you can gauge on when a movie will do better than expected based on the conversation. So don't be surprised when Civil War does better than expected and Abigail sadly disappoints big time.
