  1. Enjoyed the trailer but bit worried that we have young Indy meeting old Indy. This feels likely, especially as this is from the director of Logan, which has a similar plot point. That was the only weakness in that film for me. It's really difficult to pull time travel off never mind having characters meeting themselves. It works in comedies like BTTF as it's essentially absurd and therefore ripe for comedy. Other than Days of Future Past, I can't think any really good non-comedy time travel films. Maybe the film leans heavily into comedy and it works. Still really excited for this. If it's any good and not divisive (surely some lessons have been learned about crapping on a beloved character's legacy), I'm thinking 450 million plus.
  2. This is also first time for WC to be held in Nov/Dec. Nobody is on holiday and a lot of people more likely to catch games on TV in free time rather than make trip to cinema. Not sure what impact WC has in States, but with such a multicultural population and the game itself seemingly rising in popularity, it's probably keeping some away from the cinema.
  3. Awesome. What chance of Short Round appearing in Indy 5? I have a feeling he'll show up.
  4. Agree the film wasn't a disaster. Just something "off" about it. Other than the horrific CG, Mutt being detestable and Marion just goofy didn't help. Ford also seemed kind of out of it, especially at the start of the film. It's like Spielberg felt obliged to do it. Lucas was obsessed with doing something with aliens, an idea Spielberg hated. He just finally relented and made the film after all the delays. It just didn't click, but there are scenes, like in the cemetary in Peru, that have that classic Indy feel and urgency. Skull is a weak series entry with some silly scenes (fridge) and a really by the numbers plot. It doesn't damage the character or harm the previous films for me though. Arguably the SW sequels, unlike the prequels, betray established lore and characters. I can't see 5 making the same mistakes as Skull. And I hope Indy is still the character we all love. We'll soon find out.
  5. Wow. First domestic billion maker? If anyone can do it, it's James Cameron
  6. Can this film be 2023's TGM? Not saying it can make as much but 500 million + domestically achievable if it's any good. Having a bit of genuine emotion and not killing off Indy being key factors here.
  7. Cameron's spoken about keeping this to a trilogy if 2 underwhelms. What should this be making minimum WW to greenlight further sequels? 1.5 billion?
  8. Feel like this film will be massive internationally. I know the Avatar brand is consistently charged with having little cultural footprint, but this film was the first blockbuster people now in their late teens and early 20s saw at the cinema. I teach uni in South Korea, and it's the one film students constantly talk about being excited for. They have fond memories of watching original in 3D on the big screen. I feel like this will be the same for young people all over the world. I personally thought the film would do OK (maybe 1.3-1.5 billion WW), but confident now it's doing 2 billion +. I've never even watched 1, but seeing this sequel at the cinema seems to be a major event for people I've spoken to.
  9. Very strong opening for WF all things considered. I teach uni in South Korea and a lot of my students are Marvel fanatics. Word of mouth is pretty dreadful for this, logic and pacing issues being cited. Thor 4, DS2 , and Eternals were very badly received here as well. WF may be partial victim of those films. Really muted opening weekend and comparatively low interest for a Marvel film here, too. This isn't the case in US, but it sounds like the tone and content of WF doesn't translate into a lot of repeat viewings. With little competition it should go well over 400 million domestic though If this is Marvel's "rut" period, there's no need to panic with films still doing 800+ globally. I do feel like the franchise has lost a bit of its lustre this year (WF excluded). Need something special to get audiences pumped for new Avengers films.
  10. Agree. Was something originally scheduled for early October, but got shifted to a later date, that put WB off? Or maybe didn't want to go up against established franchise in Halloween Ends?
  11. Is it decent if BA is sitting at 135 million this Sunday? Feel like the film ends with 160 million if that's the case with WF arriving next weekend. Also means the film ends well under 400 million WW, which seems like the respectability milestone if nothing else. Did the cameo actually do anything for this film's numbers? I also begin to wonder how much Flash can realistically expect to make. Keaton's return will need to be pushed a lot.
  12. Just out of curiosity regarding cinema score's significance, I had a look at the new Halloween series. The films declined from B+ for Halloween 2018, B- for Kills, and C+ for Ends. I know horror even at its best scores low, but these scores seem to reflect accurately how well liked the films were and their requisite box office takes. Interestingly, every non OT Star Wars film except Rise of Skywalker, which got a B+, has scored A or A-. This supports the CS fanboy factor. Although it doesn't tell us too much about a film's legs in this series. Sorry if I'm retreading established norms with CS, never really paid too much attention to it unless it's really low.
  13. Yeah. Seems a rather pointless exercise really. You wouldn't imagine the A CS score would attract any casual viewers. Gives the studio some bragging rights I suppose.
  14. Agree that the climax is fairly satisfying. Will do a rewatch of the whole trilogy again once I have all three on bluray next year. Maybe the overall story arc works better viewing the films in succession. Strange how a trilogy with the same writing team went so off the rails after a promising start. The whole "this Myers isn't a supernatural force" is pure bs given what happens in kills and ends. It's a really problematic stance when you do multiple films with this type of character. It's more plausible to make him a demonic/preternatural force of evil.
