  1. Can you explain your math here? Are we expecting Japan to contribute at least $20M which is more than Elemental did this past summer?
  2. O'Connor was the best part of the movie for me. Not sure how mainstream he will ever be but he has a new fan.
  3. The problem is so little data is accessible to people outside of the industry - re: Euphoria, HBO's viewership is pitiful despite their cultural footprint. It gives one pause to consider how insular the 'zeitgeist' really is despite supposedly being more open, progressive, and inclusive than ever before as you indicate with your pithy but ultimately hollow last comment. Let's see what Emerald Fennell does next and, more importantly, who pays for it since Amazon is apparently very happy with their investment. Apologies for this last, off topic post
  4. It would probably be more fruitful to come out and say exactly what you mean here?
  5. I'm sorry, but none of this is rigorous. It's great that people on TikTok, IMDB, etc loved it as soon as it became free to watch. I suppose that perhaps the problem here is that my definition of popular is a lot more 4 quadrant than might be fair in the fragmented world of streaming.
  6. All that suggests to me is that the people who liked Saltburn really, really liked it and are active on the Internet. Fair play to them but again, how many of them are actually there? Perhaps it doesn't matter as long as Amazon-MGM eventually learns the art of budget management lest they attract Andy Jassy's attention.
  7. Netflix is the only transparent streamer because the streaming war has already been won - publishes data every Tuesday at 12 pm PST and got rid of the '15 seconds counts as a view' metric a while ago. The rest of the streamers except for Apple (where the entertainment division seems like the child of a very disinterested parent) are engaged in a Ponzi scheme of sorts and it is very much in the interest of creatives (take the Margot Robbie quote) to play along for a share of the pie. I wouldn't trust Amazon's press releases as far as I could throw them. That being said, there was actually a glitch of sorts around the time that Saltburn's Nielsen numbers were due and thus we actually only have Nielsen data for its third week post release: https://netflixandchiffres.substack.com/p/us-streaming-report-killers-of-the?utm_source=publication-searchhttps://netflixandchiffres.substack.com/p/us-streaming-report-killers-of-the?utm_source=publication-search First chart on this post from FilmsDeLover who is a very reliable streamings analyst. As we can see, Saltburn doesn't really look that grand for a movie that supposedly captured the zeitgeist on streaming. Of your Twitter follow group, perhaps, but the general audience did not bite as underscored by the poor box office which surely did not burn off demand. So even though Saltburn's performance is actually rather obscure due to the Nielsen glitch, I very much question anyone who trusts streamers implicitly to tell them the truth or go along whenever that 'truth' conforms to their own biases. My 2 cents here as to why non Netflix streaming data is all a crock of BS
  8. Emphasis on star - she has a very commercial look as well. Lots of brunette actress breakouts in the past 5 years or so!
  9. Acquaintances? I've seen Bardem, Butler, and Ferguson noted as standouts but not really Zendaya. To me, she is a very flat actor.
  10. In my opinion - more people care about Batman (even the 139th adaptation) than care about Dune. Batman vs Superman will have a higher WW gross than Dune Part 2.
