Haven't seen it. Wanted to earlier today, but I was so tired and my sleep schedule has been out of whack since I'm working overnights during the holidays. My body can't handle staying up that late and needs extra rest. Hopefully I can see it Sunday the 26th, but I don't know. Want to get to it soon tho!

Working overnights during the holidays??? May the Force be with you, boo. ❤️ Hang in there, I hope you get to rest soon.

Lemme know your thoughts if you do. :)

Also, y'all...my ass woke up at 5 AM for a flight. I'm proud of myself cause I am NOT a morning person.

My Letterboxd review (2 out of 5 stars):

Its biggest problem, for all its claims of reverence of the original, is in how much it misunderstands the 1973 masterpiece. That movie was as much a possession horror as it was a film about the horrors of knowing that your child is going through something while being ignored, downplayed, or gaslit by professionals. It also briefly touches on the horrors of mental institutes, and while I don’t necessarily share that thinking, it claims that faith still has a place in a world of so much science and machines; it is something that has always been, and still can be, a relief.

This film takes all those ideas and tries to imitate them, instead of trying to look at the world of today and the new realities we live in. It’s a cheap imitation too (a way out of place trauma medical scene, a way out of place mental health institute scene, you see where I’m going with this). The first one, even 50 years later, feels so transgressive, and this one feels so… not?

It does a good job of setting up a dreary atmosphere in the first half, and it does capture the horrors of parents who are looking for their children quite well (even if that narrative thread feels like something out of the 80s). The performances are good (the kids knock it out of the park, and I always appreciate Leslie Odom Jr.‘s presence), and I even appreciate the various denominations approach to the exorcism; that part does feel thoughtful and intentional, and a reflection of the better knowledge and care of our religious diversity.

I just wish the execution wasn’t so laughably bad

    Ooh, you clocked it.

Don't want to say where I live for obvious reasons, but yeah, I'm about a half-hour drive away. And yeah, there's nice opportunities there, some fun landmarks, nice locations to hang out in. My sisters live there and are currently doing great stuff in their post-grad lives. Kinda depends though on what you're looking for career and life goal wise.

One of my dearest best friends moved there with her husband because he got a job.

But, I loved how much there was to do. I have no idea about the opportunities in music or even writing there, but lately, with everything going on in the world, I thought about activism or nonprofit, I don't know. Tryna find my place outside music, but I know I got that talent and wanna nurture it as much as I can.

It was alright. One thing with this franchise is that the supporting cast is going to be spot on. Davis, Schwartzman and even Dinklage are all really fun in this. The last third is a bit of a slog, but it was in the book, too, and the movie, like the previous three, is largely just the book in live action.

The first movie remains the most interesting cinematically and as an adaptation.

Always glad to read a review from you, boo. ❤️
