But MovieMan also said the superhero genre would burn out by 2005...
In an alternate universe, it may have done so.

@cine-directors
Box Office @DisneyStudios France : #RogueOne = 1 345 000 / - 25 % / 3 143 000
better than the 39% drop predicted.
25% may be the weekly drop (Wed thru Tues).

Btw, on MT, the last report for the day was 31.4% for R1 and 31% for Sing. I don't know what to make of that. Is it due to discount Tuesday?

Theaters were jammed today. Everything was selling out.
May be so. But was the parking lot full? Without that your report would be incomplete.

Awesome for Rogue One.
Time to put some people on suicide watch.

"Untitled" seems too generic akin naming the hero John Doe. They need a cool title for this to lure those hacker nerds.

I remember watching catch me if you can on christmas morning and it was snowing after the show. Definitely the atmosphere was awesome.
I feel the atmosphere enhances the movie going experience.
The spillover effect is at its peak during this time. People come to the theater to see a specific movie. If it is sold out they check out something else.

Watched JFK on Christmas in 1991. Movie watching on Christmas has become a tradition now for the past 25 years.
I love the theater atmosphere after lunch. They are packed with families.

Event movies have huge early buzz with people following them for months before release supplemented with good pre-sales. I don't think Deadpool qualifies with that criteria. But it was a phenom in its after release performance. But that does not make it an event.
BvS was an event. Its run was pathetic.
RO is an event and the early run seems to be pointing towards a phenomenal run too.

I thought pretty much every box office nerd respects/admires Spielberg.
That sounds good.

Discount Tuesdays are meant to accomplish a few things.
1. Get regular moviegoers to watch movies at greater frequency.
2. Get tightwad auds to give some movies a shot
3. Get infrequent/rare moviegoers to watch movies
The idea is to get the audiences into the habit of watching movies thereby increasing the audience pool.

I'll go bump Baumer' s under 450 thread then.
Not required. The movie will do very well. The drops cannot be compared to TFA. The best way to figure out a range check out 2011 when Dec. 16 was a Friday.

TFA dropped 33.8% first Monday. Will be interesting to see if this can be in that range.
That was a few days later with more schools off. Probably around a 50 to 53% drop.

At another forum members nearly 'killed' each other over the term 'best' in connection with actors.
The question whom to add on that chart was meant as: best quality in their profession, but there seems to be a region where best means the best person (character, warm/nice personality = like doing charity and being open to fans)
The 'riots' took several days till more or less accidental the differences in using the term became clear.
Btw, the term vest (clothing) is also used very very very differently. Depending on English speaking country (and sometimes even within the same country if it is a big one) it is in use for:
a certain style of T-shirt, a sleeveless jacket, a certain style of dress, a sleeveless pullover,...
If all people are aware about speaking about clothes no one will usually ask which kind of clothes people are even speaking about.
Hence the reason I try to ask or point out the possibility. Plus the differences in opinion and / or beforehand expectations for which reasons, like in this case
Completely agree with your view point. Usage of certain words vary according to regions/countries/cultures.
Many Indians tend to use the term "Rubber" for eraser and "Fag" for a cigarette resulting in hilarious situations in English speaking countries like the US. I was somewhat privy to those terms when I moved to the US in the late 80s. But I have seen many an Indian being made fun of for using these terms.
