The book has a different philosophy from any big or small screen incarnation of this story. In the book there are huge sections showing how evil the people in that town were in the past years, full mini-stories full of hatred and racism, that point out that IT is actually the embodiment of that evil. The movie is basically an entertaining “nightmare on elm street” kind of thing.

Oh and of course the book is disturbing in .....other ways that would never been filmed (well unless the movie was made in the seventies I guess).

Hmmm I should read the book lol

At this point, of all the potential 200m opener (and Guardians 3 is not one of them wth u guys smoking), Star Wars EP9 is the most likely.

Yea I’ll go with Star Wars 9 but i honestly wouldn’t be surprised if that opened around AOU numbers instead but still make more than TLJ

Really, not anywhere near? GotG2 did 146, so 3 should be looking at 150+ almost certainly. This'll be their first movie after featuring in a pair of Avengers movies, so it should see a healthy bump, and it would only need a 36.5% increase to hit 200.

I wouldn't actually say it's favored, but it should be decently close.

Yea...just don’t see it for some reason. Maybe 165-170. Probably because i thought Gotg 2 was just ok

I was questioning the general consensus for the first 40 minutes of the film. Bayona staged some spectacular set pieces during the first act. The volcano chase calls back to Lost World's biggest suspenseful sequence with the baby T-Rex.  A seamlessly edited action spectacle of Murphy's Law in full swing. It then hits a massive wall as soon as they leave the island. Nearly an hour's worth of exposition and villainous scheming go by only to be unceremoniously "rewarded" with a ridiculous final act that makes Lost World's San Diego rampage look amazing by comparison. In short, it goes from great adventure to boring filler, and finishes with some extremely face-palm inducing silliness.

Completely agree! Well said. Thought the movie was really really good until they left the island. And that final scene on the Island was incredibly well done and emotional.  The score for this film was great too.

and universal overestimated it just to have “an 150 million” opening weekend at a time when almost all studios are extremely careful in their estimates.

Dont see much difference apart from the fact that we had to constantly read for three years that 600 million was the celing for a CBM in the U.S. and reading wall of text after wall of text why x upcoming CBM will disappoint.

Hmm let's see, over the last couple months I don't recall many people expecting FK to challenge JW1 opening vs many people expecting AOU to best TA. To AOU credit only falling 16 million short from it is really impressive IMO. Like I said earlier, people dragged it because we kept hearing a 100 million OD was going to happen throughout the day.

As for the CBM has reached a ceiling argument, I always found that line of thinking as pretty wack. You know how many times that phrase has been used before? Spider-man was the ceiling, then TDK, then TA, and now I'm assuming it's BP. I'm sure people will say I2 is the ceiling for animated movies as well. If there are ceiling's then they are glass ones that are meant to be shattered.

It’s neither bad , not very impressive either and it missed 150 million. There was a riot when AOU missed.....200 million, things are extremely civil here.

That was because Disney made a fool of themselves by repeatedly saying things like 100 million OD is within reach and actuals constantly coming in lower than estimates.

They learned from that though. Now they purposely underestimate there blockbusters

Its a magnificient movie, but its underperformance didnt surprise me tbh. The trailers made it look like Dawn all over again, the film didnt really have a clear hook. And then it wasnt even the film that was marketed to the GA, but a Schindlers List-like War drama, which was perfect for me but surely many people thought it was too dark, depressing and sad, which isnt good at all for legs.

Hmm yea that’s true. It is an extremely dark movie
