Gerald's Game is a very interesting movie, but one that doesn't truly work. Gugino and Greenwood are pretty good in their role, and the elevated expressionist tone is appreciated. The cinematography is great, and the film is pretty well-paced in spite of its narrow focus. However, Flanagan doesn't do enough to justify it being a film, making one believe it work much better as a play. After all, if it was a play, those horrendous final ten minutes couldn't be used. Honestly, it's the worst possible ending for a story like this, and one that nearly ruins the entire experience. Gerald's Game may have its merits but ultimately ends up mediocre thanks to failing to deliver a fully cinematic experience and a downright awful conclusion. Disappointing. C-
