I guess the movie has gained quite a few detractors about the way its leads treat women, but I always believed that part of the movie was totally self-aware from the start. It isn't bellitling women just for the laughs, the whole movie is a full on satire on the absurdity of war and what it does to people. The brilliance of MASH is that it operates as a nasty and kind-of sexist broad comedy about dudes in the war on the surface (possibly the reason why it was such a huge hit) but the underlying themes are absolutely vicious. It manages to have its cake and eat it too.

An absolute masterpiece. I watch it every year and still feels fresh and energetic.
