  1. How do you think Blind Detective will do in box office? I like Johnnie To's past works, but I think Blind Detectives got pretty horrible reviews at Cannes in May.
  2. When does high school summer break begin? What about colleges?
  3. Has summer vacation began in China? Did students done with their exams?
  4. Yeah, that's something I noticed too. The US dollar amount slightly differs from various sources that posts these numbers. I think its because the exchange rate of the Chinese yuan to dollar keeps adjusting. And different sources probably didn't use the same exchange rate. So I guess its best to post the number in Chinese yuan? But it will be nice to know the dollar amount as well.
  5. Thanks for the information above. Is The Monkey King not coming out at all this year?
  6. I thought the Detective Dee prequel was going to be released in October? Also, when is Star Trek Into Darkness going to get released in China, and how well do you think its going to do?
  7. Firedeep, so is American Dreams in China going to be bigger than Tiny Times? Because that prediction is huge!
  8. That "American Dreams in China" number is just so astonishing! About $17 million USD in three days? Firedeep, does that film have similar hype as So Young did? Review wise, is it better than So Young's? Do you think its going to do Finding Mr. Right numbers or more? And what is your prediction for Tiny Times boxoffice number?
  9. I just did some research, it seems "Switch" (with Andy Lau) and "Badges of Fury" (with Jet Li and Wen Zhang) are releasing this June right? Aren't these two films pretty high-profile?
  10. I don't get why there aren't more high-profile local films been released this summer, when kids are out of school? From what I understand, The Monkey King was going to be released in the summer right? Why pushing these bigger films back?
  11. Yeah, like can you name some of the high-profile local releases that are coming up during the Summer? For example what is Tiny World?
  12. firedeep, can you list some of the high profile local films (with the director and stars names; for example, what is Tiny World?) that's going to be released for the next few month? And maybe your prediction on how they are going to do?
  13. LOL what is going on? So the Chinese partner (DMG) got an earlier release date? And that's a preferable date than one Disney and Marvel was saying? Is this official? And if so, why would Disney and Marvel enthusiastically confirm that it got a May 3rd release date? This whole thing is kind of ridiculous. Like with Django Unchained apparently re-releasing in China after being pulled. Like WTF.
  14. I'm no expert on Asian or Chinese cinema, but from the description of some of the users on this thread, "So Young" has been labeled as a chick flick? Whether that is true or not I don't know, but I think that explains a lot about the dislikes. Not just particularly here, but generally on the internet regarding female oriented films, especially English-language ones.
  15. May 3rd is the same date as its North America release date. Why is that a bad release date? Even the Deadline article (http://www.deadline.com/2013/04/iron-man-3-china-release-date-may-3/) stated "This is the date Disney and Marvel Studios were eyeing all along for the pic". I doubt Marvel and Disney are unhappy with this.
  16. I heard China doesn't have a rating system? Which would be strange for a country with such a prominent film industry and box-office. If that's the case, then I'm surprised that Django was cleared for release in the first place. The graphic content in the film, no matter how much you cut it out, doesn't seem suitable for "general" audience I guess. That begs another question, does movies released in China have to be suitable for all ages? But since it was released, its kind of ridiculous to pull it from the theaters. Is the studio going to re-cut it and re-releasing it?
