  1. LOL, all that pandering the Academy did catering to ABC and for what? SAG did their same old show and the ratings doubled.. Quite the competition this season, for Biggest Tryhard with the Least Results. ETA, the 15 million number is more like it, but this would've naturally happened IMO. They could've just nominated that song from Annette. Anyway, Warren’s not going to win for these dreary ballads from movies with no other awards prospects. It's probably better for it, honestly. If The Slap had never happened, all the energy today on Twitter would've been devoted to CODA bashing. Right now,, it's more The Artist than Crash or Green Book.
  2. You know, it would have worked if they'd announced Best Actor last THIS year...
  3. Netflix needs to back some crowdpleasers instead of Very Directed Cinematic Masterpieces. Roma, The Irishman, Mank, Power of the Dog: chilly/reserved stuff like that can't survive being frontrunners all season, they get overtaken by movies the voters just like better. A "make up Oscar" in that the makeup/prosthetics did the acting? Unless people think she should have won for Zero Dark Thirty-maybe so, but I think she was maybe third by Oscar night that year.
  4. The Twitter polls weren't for a real Oscar, I'm surprised the producers didn't just lie and say Spider-Man actually won anyway. The announcer previewing what's coming up in the "third hour" like it's not already 15 minutes after...
  5. They hype up We Don't Talk About Bruno, only to perform the actual first verse of the song, followed by some made-up new verses about the Oscars? LOL
  6. I love a good Best Song performance with choreography but I didn't get the dancers on Dos Oruguitas. They weren't styled like the characters or anything. Painful plug for the Academy Museum kicking off the "second hour" of the show.
  7. I can't get over how weird it is to expect Zelensky to appear at the Oscars. Like, back in 1941, was there this outcry for Churchill to record a speech for the Oscars radio broadcast during The Blitz? Talk about having no perspective. If I were Ukranian and trying to survive bombs/starvation/etc. I wouldn’t be thrilled about our president stopping to make an awards show appearance. Is everyone in Hollywood really this dim and myopic? Never mind, don't answer that... It's funny that Mila happens to star in the movie that got the random Diane Warren nomination for Original Song, though Kunis was probably going to be the Ukranian star they'd get to appear for the Oscars, anyway. Andrew Garfield was on a talk show recently and said he knew he wasn't going to win because he looked at Gold Derby. I wonder if nominees read the Honest Ballots, too,. Clearly last year's Oscars producers didn't, or they would’ve known about Hopkins possibly winning Best Actor and just ended the show the normal way. Anyway, if I were a frontrunner I don't know if I'd acknowledge it or mentally try to downplay my chances. Everyone hates false modesty but sometimes the frontrunner does lose at the end and you can tell how much it sucks for them in that moment. They still have fame and money but no one likes being embarrassed on a global scale.
  8. Amy Schumer also mentioned wanting to have Zelensky appear on the Oscars and framed it like the producers might be afraid to go there. It's like these stars think that if he isn't on the show, Hollywood is somehow "ignoring Ukraine" and trying to avoid controversy. He is a former actor, so maybe they feel a particular affinity for him and they want to do something. Still, most people who follow the news are totally fine if Zelensky deals with his country, and weren't really looking for the live Zoom Oscars appearance from the warzone.
  9. They're having different cast mrenbers reunite as presenters. Jennifer Garner's been announced, JK Simmons is there as a nominee, so a Juno reunion, I guess. Will Leto put his Razzie next to his Oscar and AARP Movies For Grownups award? They actually did pick a Worst Bruce Willis Performance, I thought the Razzies might declare it a tie.
  10. The Oscars set is going to have tables/booths, for the chosen ones at least... The Honest Ballots are cherry picked for drama but I'm surprised by how much Campion's comment about the Williams Sisters has come up and how some aren't voting for her as a result. It was a bad joke, but much worse has been easily forgiven. I wonder how much of it is due to people already not liking Power of the Dog that much to begin with...
  11. Adding a 20 year old Disney star as a presenter last minute doesn't really contradict their goal of a 3-hour show. Presenting all 23, on the other hand... Overwhelming Penelope Cruz support in the Anonymous Ballots, but it could be a skewed sample.
  12. Riding that Deep Water buzz to bring in Jacob Elordi... The full list of announced presenters: Halle Bailey Stephanie Beatriz Josh Brolin Ruth E. Carter Sean “Diddy” Combs Kevin Costner Jamie Lee Curtis DJ Khaled Jacob Elordi Jennifer Garner Jake Gyllenhaal Woody Harrelson H.E.R. Tiffany Haddish Tony Hawk Anthony Hopkins Daniel Kaluuya Samuel L. Jackson Lady Gaga Lily James Zoë Kravitz Mila Kunis John Leguizamo Simu Liu Rami Malek Shawn Mendes Jason Momoa Bill Murray Lupita Nyong’o Elliot Page Rosie Perez Chris Rock Jill Scott Naomi Scott Tyler Perry Tracee Ellis Ross J.K. Simmons Kelly Slater Wesley Snipes Uma Thurman John Travolta Shaun White Serena Williams Venus Williams Yuh-Jung Youn Rachel Zegler There usually ends up being a surprise or two on Oscar night, especially for the bigger categories. Of course, these producers want to do things differently and maybe they already announced them all. I guess we'll see.
  13. Apparently, Van Morrison won't be there due to his tour schedule...
  14. I wonder if that's an excuse, because if Rachel was scheduled to film in London the day after the Oscars, wouldn't she have just said she couldn't go because of work? Though like you said, there's no reason a Disney production couldn't adjust the schedule for the star of their Disney princess movie to attend the Oscars on ABC, supporting a Disney-affiliated Best Picture contender with 7 nominations. She'd plug Snow White on the red carpet and get a million reaction shots in the audience. There's always someone high profile who is filming a movie/TV during awards season and they juggle the schedules to make it all work. Last year, there were more travel/quarantine restrictions but that's less of an issue now. I really do think they didn't invite her in the hopes of also sidestepping Ansel's presence at the Dolby.
  15. Saw speculation that Disney is only maybe inviting Moreno (DeBose presumably gets a ticket from AMPAS as a nominee) and none of the other cast so they can avoid having Elgort representing West Side Story in person on Hollywood's Biggest Night. He went to Critics Choice this year, but it's nothing compared to the Oscars. He hasn't done a Casey Affleck and voluntarily stepped aside to avoid the awkwardness of his presence, and the studio hasn't totally distanced themselves from him for whatever reason. So, you just invite the Anitas, pan to them and Spielberg a lot whenever WSS is mentioned, and hope the fans watching at home figure the other cast members are on location or have Covid. I'm guessing Zegler wasn't supposed to let it slip that she wasn't invited.
  16. So it's not happening, then? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Nominations were announced a month and a half ago. What have the producers been doing all this time? I don't think Billie Eilish's performance is going to be that dramatic or require special arrangements, but they haven't announced her as a performer, either.
  17. Mavity always has good insider scoops about the techs, especially the sound branch: Who knows if this is a handful of voters or hundreds...
