Never really looked at Toy Story 2 until now, and wow those are some giant spikes!

  2. The Lone Ranger has the best chance IMO.

Think Lone Ranger will do well in theaters.

My local Barnes and Nobles have dress up days and I've already seen at least 2 kids dressed up as either Lone Ranger or Tonto and the films not even out yet.

Plus I think the marketing is real good. Everywhere I go is Lone Ranger poster here and there, TV commercials everywhere. A lot of people I know are going to see it next wknd - their fans of the POTC films.

  4. Forgot to compensate for the 4th of July weekend so the 3rd wkdy #s could be more like $12 - $13 mill?

SUPERMAN RETURNS made 10 M more after its 6th weekend.

    TASM added 7 M more.

So it's going to be really close for MOS then.

No more than $303 mill dom probably highest?

  5. Anything over $4m is an amazing hold for MOS.

Doing a quick lazy est projection of MOS for the next 4 weeks:

    Week - Weekend / Weekday

    2nd - 41.2 / 19.5

    3rd - 19.5 / 10.8

    4th - 10.7 / 5.7

    5th - 5.6 / 3.0

By the 6th week MOS should have at least a cume of approximately $285 million. Yay, nay?

  6. People think RT and BO gross aren't correlated but they are dead wrong. Will it always be in sync? No but a lot of the time it points in the right direction.

Remember reading some article last year about 20 or maybe even 22% out of a 1,000 people surveyed actually depend on movie reviews and will pay to see, or not pay to see a film depending on how good/bad it's reviews are.

It's not the best stat but if we can get some ticket counts... we could possibly est what a certain movie could have made if it had better reviews...maybe?

  7. Zod was one of my main problems with MoS.

Zod didn't really bother me, except when he...

... said one of the purpose of terra forming the earth because he didn't want to deal with earth's atmosphere - aka same atmosphere that made Kryptonians like gods on earth.

Also didn't care much for Fiora and her constant preaching and nagging to Superman during their fights.

I think the all-over-the-place pacing and the plot holes like the spoiler above, especially the more OBVIOUS ones in MoS that even my 13 year old cousin noticed:

He noticed that Lois got shot by a Kryptonian laser in the earth's atmosphere, the same laser that kills Kryptonians in their own heavier atmosphere, yet Lois survives what should have been god-times more lethal.

... were the problems in our viewing.

  8. I dont know about destroyed ED, more like hurt some.... After all its their giant OWs versus

MOS's big weekend 2.. And since MOS had a whoopping 116 M in 3 days OW plus had to take on one the most highly

watched finals in years. 44-53 M is still great... :)...And it could always rebound with a giant 19-20+M saturday

or  a giant Sunday. No set rules on how MOS will do yet

$20M for MOS on Saturday would still be possible if it had a $14-$15M Friday.

MOS's 71% drop mimics Green Lantern's 72% drop basically the same date in 2011.

The way this pans out for MOS... estimating $16M Saturday at best (27% increase), and $13M Sunday.

Basically around $42-44M for the 2nd weekend.

  9. Just saw "Monsters University".

    8/10.

Makes you appreicate the original "Monsters Inc." even more. Simply adored the first 15 mins of the film.  Loved the ending twist for THE ending.

By the way, STAY AFTER THE END CREDITS too.

    P.S.

Same theater from last night, was about full capacity, maybe even sold out, and seated 350-370.

  10. Wow...

I know Nikki's a WB gal and all and probably has her feelings a lil hurt, but still, why did she have to trash WWZ like that after it had taken the #2 spot from MOS?

Her last Friday update said MOS (her est $19M) and WWZ (her est $20M) would be in a neck and neck race but we all know it wasn't even close, but to trash WWZ and Paramount on her latest update... Nikki, Nikki.

    http://www.deadline.com/2013/06/world-war-z-begins-international-roll-out-strongly-in-australia-korea/

Here and overseas, World War Z is in direct competition with Warner Bros’ and Legendary Pictures’ 3D Man Of Steel (4,207 theaters in the widest release) which going into today was still the big #1 leader in the worldwide marketplace. Now it’s #3 domestic with $12.7M Friday (-71% from a week ago) and another huge weekend around $42.7M for a cume around $210M from just 11 days in U.S./Canadian release. Global numbers to come.

Frankly, I’ve never found traditional zombies scary – they’re slow, so just outrun them, right? - although World War Z has fast-moving zombies who swarm. But it’s not like lethal lasers are leaping out of their eyes. And these are PG-13 zombies who don’t look much different from George Romero’s 1968 horror classic Night Of The Living Dead or AMC’s Walking Dead. They’re more like the zombies from Dawn Of The Dead and 28 Days Later. These also are effing expensive zombies. Much has been made of the film’s mega-cost: between $220M-$230M brought down to $200M by tax incentives in locations Scotland, Malta, England, and Hungary, or so the studio claims.

World War Z just might (emphasis on the word might) overperform despite stiff competition. But the big question mark is all that bad buzz which World War Z endured for six months and how much it will affect filmgoers. Paramount is quick to acknowledge that bad-mouthing has created low expectations and is projecting only mid-$40sM this weekend.

    ...oh Nikki Finke.

  11. Finally saw MOS.Definitely not what I was expecting and not as good as some made it seem. I see why critics had problems with the movie because it really was a flawed film. Major issues were:1. The pacing was very strange.2. The dialogue was weird. Some of the acting was close to Star Wars prequel levels.3. The action at the end was very repetitive and somewhat cartoony.Overall, 2.5 out of 5 stars for me. The second movie DEFINITELY needs another creative team behind it.

Saw MOS tonight too and felt most of the same thing, which I just posted on pg. 99 especially the pacing and all the obvious plot holes.

I wouldn't mind seeing a different writer for a sequel.

  12. We just got back from "Man of Steel".

    6.5 / 10.

It's not a good film - it's an entertaining movie, kind of like how I would say "Transformers" or "Iron Man 2" was.

If I was 15-16 years old, I'd probably wouldn't care and liked it just for the action/explosions, but even that was too busy.

Pacing was just all over the place with so many obvious plot holes like:

Black hole sucking vehicles and building debris, yet manages to not even suck Lois Lane as she was basically right next to it, or Superman is dependent on earth's air that he can't even breathe in Kryptonian air and even passes out, yet he's fine in outer space. And the whole US Army knows that Superman's spacecraft was taken from the Kent's farmhouse in Smallville yet he could disguise himself as Clark Kent and no one knows. These are just off the top of my head.

Henry Cavill though was a good successor to Christopher Reeve. He had that Tom Welling look too!

Superman is still my favorite superhero, but this movie, MOS, just could've been better, rather than just full of action.

My 13 year old cousin liked it, my 8 year old nephew fell asleep.  My theater was about maybe 75% full with a 370 capacity, we went to the 8 pm showing.

There were a few applause after the film, but then some guy behind me started booing which got some people to the front laughing and some joined in on the booing.

    P.S.

Pacific Rim trailer was sweet! Love Godzilla, so I'll be checking this out.
