  1. I saw it. WOW! I have never seen anything like that on the screen before. I recommend this movie whole-heatedly. Is it perfect? No. Is it, from a story and character perspective, the best film I have seen this summer? Probably not. Does any of that matter? NO! The fact that this thing isn't doing 100 million dollars this weekend is both a mystery to me and a tragic accident to film making as a whole. Give this thing a sequel, Legendary. Give it a sequel and then team it up with Godzilla for the third. A Speaking of, Godzilla's going to have a rough time following this up. Once you've seen action like this, I'm not sure a stand-alone Godzilla film can compare.
  2. Just a general impression of the trailers and commercials I've seen and being a bit of a news junkie. I hope not. But the midnight numbers are what they are. Maybe it's because of the type of film it is, in which case the weekend will recover. Or maybe it's because of politics, in which case, the weekend will be bad. OR maybe it's because the film just isn't going to hit with audiences for any of the myriad reasons some films just don't, and politics has nothing at all to do with it, in which case the numbers will be also be bad. Basically- there's no real way of knowing. I was just stating a suspicion. Unless somebody wants to pony up the money for real focused audience polling, it'll never be more than that. And I'm fine with that. I hope the film does great. (Well, that's not exactly true. I hope it comes in second to Man of Steel's winning the weekend, but that ain't gonna happen. )
  3. I'm talking about the impressions of 30 second tv spots on the general audience and the viciously divided political spectrum in the U.S. at the moment. I'm not talking about the what the film actually is. I agree that it almost certainly doesn't really have any real political views and I'm personally excited about getting to see a kickass action movie that's Die Hard in the White House. I wish the movie well, I'm just saying that marketing may have dropped the ball a bit.
  4. I strongly suspect that WHD is going to have problems because of politics. I've seen the trailers and they seem to be very careful and middle of the road in how they portray Jamie Fox's President character. Some times he appears competent and badass, others like the comic relief. I wonder if the safe path hasn't failed them in that political people from each side of the spectrum will see the film negatively as vilifying or glorifying Obama and stay away because of that perception.
  5. The fact that Superman seems to be asking himself this same question is the difference between me loving and hating this film. I'm also curious about the Reeve thing. The resemblance is uncanny. I can't wait to get the film on Blu-ray to slow that scene down and see if I recognize any other Superman actors in there.
  6. Hardly fair to bring a follow up film into it. Once we see another Nolan Batman and a second MoS, then maybe. But honestly, I think the scene of Superman's grief after killing Zod is a pretty big hint that this is going to affect him going forward. Not to mention how perfect a setup for Luthor "Look what this alien menace did to Metropolis!" is.
  7. IIRC, Faora never flies. She jumps, but we never see her fly. We never see any of the armoured Kryptonians fly. I don't think they could while they had the armour on.
  8. It's a very Father's Day friendly film. Lots of films have good action that can draw males, but this film is actually thematically in line with Father's Day viewing.
  9. I don't agree that they should be separate universes, but this is a brilliant idea. Play it up as science-fantasy Game of Thrones and have WW lose and end the film with her being exiled from Themyscira. Then as the shield drops for her to be cast out, pan the camera super wide and reveal that Themyscira is actually on Earth. End with: Justice League- Coming Blah the Blah 20blah. Heck, maybe the threat in Justice League is partially from Themyscira. WW is cast out by a faction patroned by Darkseid or something.
  10. Yet Loki is still described by the Asgardians as a sorcerer. At any rate, there's little reason WW couldn't be given a similar shit. The gods become tech-lord aliens, much like in Thor, then the Amazons become the group on Earth they shared some or all of their technology with. And, Nitpick, but as I understand it the Mandarin is not a magic villain in the comics. As I understand it the "ten rings" are actually parts from a crashed alien ship.
  11. I don't know. I've seen some versions that make the costume more armour than spandex that make the skirt work in a 300 sort of way.
  12. Honestly, in hindsight I like the way it's handled in Man of Steel much more than it was in that movie.
  13. I would really like to see Luthor saved for number 3. Tease him in 2 the way they teased Moriarty in the first Sherlock Holmes. That said, I did get to thinking about the film, and if you take away Jor-El's hair and turn his armour green....
  14. For my money, taking MoS as Batman Begins, MoS 2 needs to zig light where Batman zagged dark.
  15. The only alternative is to make them work as mods, and did they really do anything to deserve that kind of punishment?
