  3. I love seeing re-release in theaters too. But the price of a new movie is completely unnecessary and reeks of studio greed. Unless like terrestrial said and there's something new/remastered about it or it has a premium (3d/imax). Though even then it shouldn't be as much as a brand new imax 3d movie.

Maybe but its simple supply and demand.  Will lowering the prices increase interest.  Likely.  But will it be enough to offset the lost dollars per ticket?  We won't know for sure but by the early numbers it looks like it's doing alright for a straight release with no enhancements.

  4. I really don't see why an old film re-release should be the same price as a new one in the theaters though. It just takes away so much of the incentive to see it. I mean second run movies aren't the same price as when they're in first run. It doesn't make sense (aside from greed that is).

There are fans, like myself, who would pay for the experience of watching it on the big screen. Yeah I've seen it more times than I could count but there's something about watching it in a theater. Much like JP, I know I'm going to enjoy every minute.
  5. I was gonna see Ghostbusters with a friend last night until we realized the tickets were 12 bucks for a freakin' 30 year old movie. If it were IMAX or something that would be one thing, but c'mon now.

$15 for the theater closest to where I live. Still I'm going to catch it. Hopefully my brother will come along

  7. THR: John Lasseter Dismisses Notion of Rift with Marvel Over 'Big Hero 6'

Disney-Pixar chief John Lasseter, the film's producer RoyConli and co-directors Don Hall and Chris Williams teased the movie Wednesday by revealing 25 minutes of footage at a gathering of Oscar bloggers at the Disney Animation building in Burbank, a clear indication that Disney intends to give the film a major awards push.

    ...

While Lasseter emphasized that the film was "made 100 percent here in the Walt Disney Animation Studio," he also noted that Disney "worked very closely" with Marvel and dismissed any notion of a rift between the two companies. "We have a fantastic relationship with them," he said.

  9. Newsarama:BIG HERO 6 Gets a Big ‘No’ From Marvel For New Comics

Despite the Big Hero 6 movie being synergistic product of Disney’s acquisition of the company in 2009, Marvel tells Newsarama that there are no plans to feature the characters of the film as part of any upcoming comics projects – neither as guest stars, in their own series, or even reprinting earlier stories that inspired the movie.

THR:Marvel Backs Away from 'Big Hero 6'

The lack of Marvel material may point to the company not maintaining full financial participation over the property due to the partnership with Disney Animation. As the Newsarama report points out, Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort has previously suggested that Marvel prioritizes properties it has complete control over.

I guess there are limits to Disney synergy.
