And now the debate about it being meh number or good number starts...
-
AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON debuted with a mighty $27.6M last night--far above the original's $18.7M.
So about a 50% increase. Good number
-
Coming out of the woods for numbers...
-
Great opening despite a more unfavorable exchange rate. And on the high end of expectations and definitely above mine. Now let's see about its legs.
-
Finally getting chance to see this tonight. Great hold.
Another great hold. It will be interesting to see if it can continue making up ground against Oz as it did this past week. My niece may be warming up to the idea of watching this after finally watching the Disney animated version.

I agree. It's daily numbers are weak, and while the movie was very well made, it's too boring and won't attract repeat viewing from it's younger (ages 4-8) audiences like Maleficent and Alice was able to do. Kids don't care if a movie is well made, just as long as it's entertaining and can hold their attention for 2 hours.
Oz multiple after 12 days 1.9
Cinderella 1.89
And that's despite stronger 2nd week competition from Divergent.
If Cinderella ends with Oz multiple it'll be at 201.
It's close but I still think it'll pull 200+

Disappointing on Cinderella, but hey it's doing better than I predicted so YAY! IT HAS GOOD WORD OF MOUTH!
It's doing alright considering Insurgent. It's doing a little worse than Oz despite stronger second weekend competition.
And Lilly James.
Nothing wrong there
-
Yea, I expected similar #'s to Maleficent's -68% = $6,207,742 , or Oz's -71.3% = $6,322,016 (and Oz was playing in March as well, same as Cindy).
Maleficent had summer day advantage. And it's inline with Oz. Not a big deal.

My goodness.
The year of Disney 2.0. What a lineup.

There's a number of reasons.I know this has been brought up before, but why is this? Maybe if a movie is anything less than a cultural phenomenon like Frozen, then it's considered business as usual for WDAS these days? I mean, even watching it at home now, BH6 still seems like a spectacular movie that should have garnered a lot more attention outside of just the box office (although I'll take what I can get).
1. But yeah you touched in on it, the biggest is that it's in the shadow of Frozen. Frozen is still going strong. Damn even Cinderella is being overshadowed. It seems Frozen Fever is what is largely talked about.
2. Interstellar grabbed a good chunk of media attention
3. Animated movies, apart from Lego Movie, just didn't get much attention.
Still kudos to the third highest grossing WDAS movie!
-
Yes, robot fights superheroes, I can already feel the orgasm at the cinemas in May.
It's gonna circle the globe.
BH6 won the Oscar and crossed $600M worldwide and the the thread is still about the first look and new trailer
What do you expect from one of the quietist BO performances last year. Still a good solid run IMO.
-
That wasn't dollar theaters, that was the singalong.
Disney wouldn't even have needed to do that to get the movie to 400m if they didn't have that ridiculously short 16 week window between the movie's release and the video release. Frozen would have easily hit 400m instead of crawling over it if the video release had been one or two months later. Stupid Disney.
Let it go..

It's doing fine. And it should clear Tangled WW. It just opened in Germany And South Korea and Germany with good numbers. UK Scandinavia and France are up next. With China, there should be enough to push it over 600 and maybe HTTYD 2. And that's despite a stronger dollar.Big Hero 6 will close its run near 220M$. Considering the gross of Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph in past years and seen the great echo created by Frozen on Disney Animation, this doesn't seem like a great performance. The same can be said about the results overseas : at the moment BH6 hasn't been so strong in all major markets in which it came out except Japan, while getting some good performances in smaller markets. At this point must hope for a great result in China to overcome at least the WW gross of Tangled.
The biggest problem? I think Disney has never really believed in this movie (Perhaps they was too busy to milk their new ice cow). The marketing before and during the opening was even worse than that of Frozen, that was saved first by a monstrous word of mouth and then by the success of the soundtrack and by the repeated views, while for BH6 almost nothing of this is happened.

Some of you guys might not believe this but I'd love to meet everyone here. I would. Even
idiotscontroversial members like Noctis I'd like to meet. But that's almost impossible. I'm going to try to one day meet people on the west coast and then maybe people on the East coast. So yes, I'd love to hang out with you as well. And if that is an invitation, I will try to oblige it.Swing by Nor-Cal if you get the chance!
