  1. Seriously guys? So much pessimism on this forums."We want Lone Ranger To Flop""We want Pacific Rim To Flop""We want RIPD To Flop"This is getting out of control. No one wins jack shit for a movie "flopping". This is worse than anything I've ever read on this forum.

I thought I moved this already. Weird.... moving to The Speakeasy again.

Why are you moving to the Speakeasy...as Water Bottle already moved it to Box Office when we asked.

Keep it in Box Office, where it applies?????????????????????

Speakeasy has nothing to do with Box Office.

This is getting out of control. No one wins jack shit in a movie doing bad. This is worse than everyone making "100 > TASM" clubs.

    Swoosh, not click.

How is this not locked? Should it at least be moved.

Bullshit. Movie studios pay for the overhead of the theater. Meaning, they are guaranteed to break even.

Cant Someone move this to Box Office side, where it applies and where the right people will see it, to talk about it

Cause in the Speakeasy, we don't care about the BO.

    IMO

  3. That's the guy.

Yeah that is him, and he took over teh chair for 12 years with J Lyons, accotding questionable tv reviewer for me...as he was also New York TV news....

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Medved

In 1984, Medved joined Sneak Previews, the weekly movie review show originated by Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, co-hosting the program for 12 years with Jeffrey Lyons.

In 1993, Medved became chief film critic for the New York Post, a position he held for five years, during which he reviewed more than 700 movies for the newspaper.

  4. Rex Reed's summary of FIGHT CLUB: "A film without a single redeeming quality, which may have to find its audience in hell."

Rex Reed's on OLDBOY: "What else can you expect from a nation weaned on kimchi, a mixture of raw garlic and cabbage buried underground until it rots, dug up from the grave and then served in earthenware pots sold at the Seoul airport as souvenirs?"

Rex Reed on CABIN IN THE WOODS: "The kind of time-wasting drivel designed to appeal to electronics nerds and skateboarders addicted to Xbox 360 video games whose knowledge of the arts begins and ends with MTV2."

There are plenty of other examples.

Well on Fight Club, I just looked it up and reception was very mixed with a 66 on MetaCritic....

    http://www.metacritic.com/movie/fight-club/critic-reviews

and here is the blip from Roger Ebert.....

But the second act is pandering and the third is trickery, and whatever Fincher thinks the message is, that's not what most audience members will get.
  5. I am going to be a Contrarian and say that there is nothing wrong with what Rex Reed did. He didn't try to fool anyone. He watched the movie for 20 minutes, couldn't take it anymore and then wrote a review that accurately reflected his views on the movie. Since we are on the topic of bad critics there are plenty of fanboy critics who get free shit from the studios and then write glowing reviews in return. Reed is an asshole but he isn't an unethical asshole.

Well that is a major difference than some above portrayed????

  6. He's been a joke as long as I can remember. At least I can buy Armond White's just being a clever troll.

I do have a competitor to Rex Reed, though -- Michael Medved. There are few people who have a face you just wanna punch. Medved is one of them, with his sneeringly condescending moral idiocy.

MM, Isn't he the guy with the beard, who even had a tv review show after the Siskel & Ebert copy jobs started. Or maybe he was one of the replacements they tried???

  7. Gotta agree about ghostbusters, its funny but nowhere near to point that people say it is.

    Three Amigos

Monty Python and the holy Grail

Well I think the Three Amigos got roasted by alot of critics, and I don't think many thought it was great.

Ghostbusters - I give it points, but maybe not the greatest but very good

MP - well first you have to be a fan

  8. I have no real answer for this, it totally depends on the movie itself and the story its telling.

Agree, as some movies bore me at 90 minutes...and some I am fine at for 150 minutes as the movie flows well.

  9. With recent analysis that the events in Man of Steel caused a purported $2 trillion in damage, far exceeding the $168 billion in damages in The Avengers, lets discuss what you consider to be the most 'destructive' movies ever.

I'm thinking my opinion might change after watching Pacific Rim.

    Star Wars

  10. I've seen The Master four times. Twice in theaters, twice on Blu-Ray. If it's really pointless, pretentious crock, then I've been wasting my time, haven't I?  ;)

I see greatness in almost every frame of that film. Not just the "look at the luscious cinematography and the impeccable sound work" brilliance, rather the "I am in tears watching Joaquin Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman act right now, they're so compelling" sort of brilliance. Listen to some episodes of the podcast to understand where Andrew and I come from on this. It's a film we both truly love.

Anyway, taste is irrelevant to me. Sure, I tend to like a lot of the same stuff as Omega Boner, but when I hate a movie baumer loves, the conversation will be just as interesting. I don't care if you like a movie or not. I want to know what you thought about a movie. If I can have an engaging, productive discussion with you about its merits/flaws, then your opinion is just as valid as mine. If you didn't like The Master, then talk to me in specifics about what didn't work for you and why. Before you know it, we'll be having fun.  :)

This is something too many users on this site doesn't realize, whether we are talking movies, news or the unmentionable names....amd it would make much better discussion.

  11. No love for Data in this thread. :(

well who is Data Match? As he is #3 on ST:TNG?

Hey Checkmate, add a pole to this thread:

    Old Kirk vs New Kirk

    Old Spock vs New Spock

    Old Bones vs New Bones

    Old Scotty vs New Scotty

Not sure how many separate polls can be added, but you could also do Uhura, Sulu, and Chekov
