It's gonna be a toss up between the 36 worst films of all time and this list as to which is the worst list on BOF
-
Sean Penn for reasons stated elsewhere.

I wish these 'best of year' lists would not be run until the following year. Case in point, at the end of 2012 I had watched about 30 films released in 2012. Now I have watched over 100. I never feel comfortable making a list for something like this simply because I haven't seen all the films I want to see yet.

MOS being so high on this list is hilarious.
Pacific Rim however was the best big budget movie of the year IMO. Also strangely enough, one of the stupidest. Sometimes that happens.

Gravity, while an amazing theatre going experience, is not an amazing movie.

I'd say the general public are those who don't post on Internet movie forums every day. There are a lot of people who claim not to enjoy the Transformer movies on the Internet because they want to come across as intellectual therefore admitting to enjoying a Bay movie is out of the question. The GA aren't biast in their opinion. Im sure more people enjoy transformers 1,2 and 3 on these forums more than they care to admit otherwise why continue watching each installment if the others bored people that much? The general public probably know the Transformer movies are stupid at times but it entertains them so they enjoy it. Everyone on here likes to act like snobby critics so regardless whether they enjoy a film or not, people tend to hate on poorly reviewed films and sometimes miss out on some gems (were the Millers) because of it. The Michael Bay hate is just a long and exhausted bandwagon that keeps on growing the more successful Bay gets.
I don't know what people who don't post their thoughts online think about the movie because they uhh, don't post their thoughts. General Audience is a pretty broad term, if its everyone who doesn't post on film forums. I wonder if the 80 year old grandma loves Transformers 2?As for me Transformers 2 was complete shit. But I enjoyed Bad Boys and The Rock. so that kinda blows your theory out of the water that people online give shit to that movie because they want to look intellectual and hence don't want to praise a Bay film.

What does the general public even mean? I mean like, am I not part of the general public because I disliked this movie?

I really did my best to avoid bad movies this year. The worst movie I saw all year was A good day to die hard.

I agree, Avengers was certainly an ambitious film in its own way and it pulled off its ambition very well. I honestly didn't think it would be possible to combine all of those Marvel stars and give them their time to shine in a 2~ hour movie and do it well. I was wrong.

Yeah?? Well I'm laughing at these numerous review sites and the numbers don't lie.. TA Fucking destroyed TDKR and while were at it, TDK as well and it's a hard pill for the Nolan suckups to come to terms with, even after almost 2 years now including YOU..
Were you dropped on your head as a child?

Why is ambition a factor? Who cares how ambitious the film was? Oh, sure, that's something you should take into consideration when your trying to grade a movie but not in the way this thread is. If a movie is ambitious, how well did the movie live up to it's expectations? In other words, did the filmmakers match their ambition? Did they make the movie they wanted to make?
It seems to me most people were like "Well the Dark Knight Rises (or The Avengers) was more ambitious so points there." Honestly, that doesn't matter. The other movie might have been less ambitious but it might have met it's goals better. That can matter. To give credit to the Dark Knight Rises or The Avengers for being more ambitious speaks nothing to their actual quality nor does it really make one better than the other.
You can still have an amazing movie without being really ambitious.
If a movie is not ambitious then it is safe, and while safe movies can be entertaining enough while watching them, they are never going to be rememberable.

….Why in the FUCK is TDKR being discussed in a thread about return of the jedi and temple of doom????

In fact, it's an opinion, so it can't be wrong.
Yes, I completely disagree with your opinion.
Any list is meaningless, since it doesn't change anyone's mind. Even if it comes from some snotty film critic, it is meaningless. It's just for fun and to express opinions.
You need to accept that these are the 36 worst movies of all-time.
-
Obviously, a lot of us disagree with you because we continue to vote on these lists. If you feel so strongly about these lists, then why bother responding to them at all? You're never going to convince anyone that voted that their opinion is wrong. In fact, it's an opinion, so it can't be wrong. I just don't understand what you're trying to accomplish.
If you honestly think all opinions are equal then I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish in arguing with me. All seems a bit silly really.
I have no problem with these lists. I have never sort to ban them. I am sure they are a fun diversion for many people even if I do think they are ultimately meaningless. This is the only list where I have made any statement at all about them because I thought this list was particularly bad and gave my opinion (that you just said can't be wrong) as to why I thought that. Apparently though my opinion that people haven't watched enough bad movies to really make a good list is actually wrong in your view and hence you have argued with me about it.
Whatevs.

I really can't compare these movies, there trying to do entirely different things.
Nolans Batman trilogy works because Batman is an inherently dark character, and these movies are dark, at least to a point, in each movie there is a glimmer of hope, that something good will happen, that at the end all will be well.
The Marvel movies on the other hand embrace their goofiness, but still manage to have dark elements and dark themes, not talking down to the audience
Both films do well considering the type of movie their trying to be.
Thats why I made it a multiple choice poll, so you don't have to compare them, just choose the ones that you really enjoyed.

I've made this a multiple choice poll so people don't have to choose between the movies they consider truly excellent. Simply choose the movies that you feel deserve an A (- through +) and sit back and enjoy the results.
