But hey, maybe it'll explode week of release.

  3. I did see it again. I watched it two years ago and I still liked it just as much as I did the first time. Maybe it turns out my opinion will change when I watch it again, but I feel confident in my own interests and tastes that I will still enjoy the movie. And sure, I won't speak for everybody. But the idea that everybody else in the world is like me, where they enjoyed the movie on its first watch, and then suddenly did not like it on a second watch...well, I'm sure that was some people's reactions, but I doubt it was enough people to negatively impact this film.
  4. Serious question here: how was the GA not impressed with Crazy Rich Asians when the film legged itself out to nearly 5 times its opening? Seems pretty weird people kept coming back to this film if people were largely unimpressed with it. No offense, but I feel like you're using your own feelings on these movies and projecting them to represent everybody else.

Not sure why today was so bad, but I hope this isn't a fluke.
  8. Genuine bummer. I was talking about Toy Story 3 and his performance in there with a friend just a couple weeks ago too.
  9. Bro I already have a whole ass Sonic trilogy in my head. When that first Sonic poster dropped, I was this close to just going to film school, solely so I could give Sonic the Bumblebee treatment. I would get 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and shit. The people would have loved it.
  10. Obviously Paramount's in way more dire straits than Warner, but it is commendable how WB didn't fast track Detective Pikachu 2. Sony or whatever would have probably put another movie out for 2022 only for it to flop, but Warner knew people were "one and done" with that series and just let it lay down peacefully. Good on them.
  11. Honestly I think the big issue affecting all these movies is just the yearn to go outside. People have their days off on Saturday, and after being cooped inside for months, they'd rather do outdoors stuff rather than be in a dark theater for 2 hours. Saturday bumps this weekend are pretty bad all across the board. I'm as big a Sonic fan as you can get, and I'm super excited to see Tails and Knuckles kick some ass. But like 75% of the hype for the last movie was the redesign controversy, which won't be a thing for the next one. They are trying to lean a bit on the nostalgia angle with adding in more classic Sonic characters, but I don't think that's really enough, since nostalgia really only works for the first movie.
  12. This is also basically a long-winded way of saying Sonic 2’s gonna flop probably
  13. Yeah Peter Rabbit is just following in the footsteps of most of these CG hybrid kids movies. This, Smurfs, Garfield, etc. all have the issue where the first movie was big, and families liked it okay, but the movie’s not interesting or good enough to make people crave a continuation. Something like The Squeakquel is an anomaly and I’m still not sure why that of all things bucked the trend. Maybe it was the Single Ladies cover I dunno.
  14. If it makes you feel better, I’m still on the “theatrical is dead” and “GvK/Memorial Day is a fluke” camp. I’m no wishy-washy hack that changes my mind every weekend. Besides, Mickey’s Law and audiences rejection of midbudget fare meant theatrical died spiritually ages ago
  15. Okay. Even then, that's only a fraction of what he writes about. He discusses box office in a broader context, talks about movie anniversaries and what their success represents, as well as reports on trailers and film news. And yeah, I haven't had any major problems or felt he did poorly on those fronts. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I do think the whole "he's a hack" and visceral hatred towards him is really unfair because he is an interesting guy who has fun viewpoints.
  16. The weird hatred for Scott Mendelson here has always baffled me. He's an entertaining writer, I always enjoy reading his viewpoints, even when I disagree, and he has a good idea on what he's talking about IMO. It just seems like people hate him here because he doesn't think exactly like them in terms of box office, and like...you know that no writer will think exactly like you, right?
  17. Actually forgot it was this weekend. You can make a thread if you want to
