  3. Okay, because this has happened way too many times, a quick note of clarification: 2023 movies are excluded from this countdown. It's too recent in my books to include something a couple months old in an all-time greatest movies list. So Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Elemental, Little Mermaid '23, etc. can't be included on your list at all. I get you really, really, really like this movie or that movie, but it's just how I laid out these rules. There's thousands of other movies to choose that Disney has made, so there's bound to be one or two more movies that you like that you can include on your list. Thank you. I thought I was clear in my opening post, but I guess not. So again, no 2023 movies.
  4. Moderation Not the Thunderbolts/Blade thread. Don't even think we need to bring up EC's hateful ass in this forum in the first place.
  5. Being popular and well-liked doesn't mean we should congratulate and applaud and be nice to a movie franchise that will make more money than we will ever make in our lifetimes. Especially when it's not like even their current direction is something the fans are happy about. Plus the whole "it supports theaters" thing doesn't hold water because we have tons of other movies right now picking up the slack. Trust me when I say being mean towards something that has made $29.6 billion isn't that big a deal.
  6. Oh I did. I was warning folks about this for years. And honestly, I think most were on my side by the time Black Widow dropped outside of the big Marvel diehards.

  8. I knew somebody would bring this up lol The second trailer for Wonka was honestly a total whiff in quality. Which says a lot coming from me. It’s also a movie that needs the cast promoting it. You need Hugh Grant on Stephen Colbert, you need Timothee on Hot Ones, you need the cast on the Buzzfeed YouTube channel and doing WIRED’s Google Search videos. And while the SAG strikes are apparently progressing well, it could fall apart just like that. The only thing they could really do apart from cast promos is try to hype up the music and see if one of the songs stick, like Wish is doing quite well with right now, but they’re weirdly being coy and haven’t given us any of the songs, which is odd to me. There's also the hurdle of being a musical. Musicals that aren’t Disney animations/Disney remakes have a pretty hard ceiling. I think Grease is still the biggest domestically of that group at around 180M, even after all these years. I love musicals, but I think there's sadly going to be a ceiling and limit in their appeal unless you're a Disney cartoon or based on a Disney cartoon.
  9. Yeah I'm in the same boat here. No big juggernaut, but there's enough 100M+ grossers that it won't be a total whiff. Like having Marvels at 130, Hunger Games at 140, Trolls at 120, Wonka at 180, Migration at 200, Wish at 225, Aquaman at 110 is still way below the last two years, but it's good enough for theaters to keep the lights on I suppose. Maybe we could also get something like 2018 where an Aquaman-style movie comes out of nowhere and does 350M+, though I really only see that if everything goes right for Wish a la Frozen.
  10. lol I need to watch this movie now Very annoying though that they named Jock "Scotty". Like I know he's Scottish, but how did Whit Stillman forget that detail?
  11. FYC 1950s A fantastic combo of concept, cast, and execution. It's a fantastic story with complexity and nuance, about humanity and technology and intellect, all anchored by an incredible cast of Hollywood legends. James Mason is phenomenal as the morally conflicted Captain Nemo, while Kirk Douglas, Peter Lorre, and Paul Lukas serve well as our likable heroes. There's also incredible setpieces including a giant squid, amazing production design, gorgeous underwater cinematography, and a cute sea lion. It's a fantastic package that deserves way more love amongst Disney fandoms, as it sadly feels underappreciated in this day and age. Obviously everybody knows what this is, but I feel most only know it for the spaghetti scene and don't acknowledge the rest of the piece. In many ways, this is Disney's best romance story ever. A fantastic look at social class divisions with two well-defined and interesting dog characters. It's reminiscent of classic romantic comedies, while also being a mature, smarlty-written piece about relationships, sacrifice, and adjusting to life changes. Great music too. Most people know it for the ending, but there's a lot more to this story. It's a very strong tale of growing up, as the son of the family, the teenage boy Travis, must learn to be the man of the house and take responsibility, while also try to develop a friendship with his new pet dog he wants nothing to do with. It's a film about how being a man also means being sensitive, letting your guard down, and be more appreciative towards others. It's also pretty brutal at points. While still aimed at a younger audience, this film contains some intense fight scenes between animals and there's a good blend of tough, heavy moments mixed in with some enjoyable moments of tenderness. It's what classic Disney does so well. Show how life is full of tough, dark, sad moments, but it can often lead to the happiest results. And yes, that ending really is something great. The final act is full of great tension and drama and elevates the whole picture from a decent kids title and a really solid family drama. This is a weird movie, and I love every second of it. It's an odd concept of a kid turning into a dog through magic gobbledygook that offers surreal moments of lunacy, fun insights into 1950s culture, and a solid story anchoring everything. These kinds of goofy low-budget comedies Disney made in the 50s-70s are definitely an acquired taste, but this is one of the better ones. It's reminiscent of 60s sitcom kitsch, which is my everything. And if you're in the same boat, you'll dig this too. Absurdly silly, but also very endearing and charming all the same. Not only does this have legit impressive special effects that still look impressive decades later, but there's lovely Irish locales and vistas, an endearing cast, including a pre-Bond Sean Connery as an Irish man--not as weird as John Wayne being Irish I suppose--and a lighthearted story that flows well, features a lot of memorable bits of folklore, and an entertaining climax that has just enough dread behind it, while still serving well as an upbeat family story. It deserves more love among classic Disney fans.
  12. I haven’t seen it. I’m actually going to DC this weekend for the Eagles/Commanders game. Have no idea if I’ll even watch Freddy’s because I doubt I’ll get much out of it. Maybe if I’m really, really bored and have nothing to do.
