Weren't the debate numbers well below the 2020 debate
51.3 million people is still 51.3 million people. That’s 15% of the nation’s population

Early Deadline is early Deadline, but this seems low for Quiet Place. Though maybe I’m forgetting how frontloaded horror is or something.

I would disagree with the last thing you said because look at Dune: Part Two. That movie doesn't have a whole lot of action, but it got an A from Cinemascore. That's a higher rating than more traditional big action films this year like GodIlla x Kong and The Fall Guy.
Maybe it's just different audiences going to each movie and what they expect to see versus what they don't get, but it's still pretty strange nonetheless.
I mean yeah, but I guess I was just rationalizing. I just got out of Quiet Place, expected something super artsy or off-brand, and I really didn't. Just seemed weird, though I guess part of it is also that it doesn't have the characters people know and love from the other two, which I do kind of understand if that's some gripes.

Well yeah. I agree it's the worst of the modern series. But I didn't think it was bad. It gave me what I wanted, and I was satisfied with it. Though I do hope they get another director on board for the next one, which I'm assuming is going to be the case.

Gotta be honest, I don’t get this audience score discrepancy for Day One? Like yeah there are differences, but it’s got the same tension and suspense and action found in the other movies. It’s not this radical departure where I feel if you liked the last two you still wouldn’t like it. Felt the same way with the new Planet of the Apes, so maybe people want action constantly and no quiet moments? Idk idk

How do you think TRAP will perform? Because WB's summer is just depressing.
I've loved all of M. Night's movies since Split, but that was the last movie of his that earned strong reviews from both critics and the GA. I can't imagine Trap doing much to turn the tide sadly.

Very curious now about what Part II would have opened to if COVID never happened. Because I was thinking somewhere in the 60s, but if a prequel with none of the main cast is getting to the mid 50s or higher? Then maybe this could have done 70+. Or 80+

I was admittedly never particularly interested in seeing Horizon but that WB was dumping the two chapters weeks apart should've told everyone that this was going nowhere. Still can't believe that these two combined are nearly 6 hours long...been a while since there was a project that gave real "miniseries that was accidentally turned into a movie after the fact" energy as much as this does.
I mean that's what it was IIRC. I think it was going to be an HBO series, then was turned into a two-part movie epic because Costner had the clout and passion for that. Which to be honest, I do find that weirdly commendable, even if the final product reportedly isn't all that, and that idea does at least have some sort of potential behind it. I'm just bummed Costner's whole story likely isn't going to be told, unless they decide to have Parts 3 and 4 turned into a show/have huge budget cuts.

Moderation
We are also not doing this "critics hate this movie because they're woke" nonsense either. It's not that crazy to think that a movie maybe got bad reviews because critics just didn't like it. Anybody who continues something like that will also get threadbanned.

We aren't doing this "the trades are lying about Quiet Place's budget" nonsense. Anyone who continues this will see a thread ban.

This looks like the kind of fake movie trailer you would see in Nancy Meyers’ The Holiday or Tropic Thunder. No wonder Dwayne fled to A24 to make a real movie.
