  2. Let's go party. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE THREAD FROM THE REVIEW THAT MOVIE SUB-FORUM. WE WILL MOVE IT BACK NEXT WEEKEND. FOR NOW, IT'S HERE. SO IF YOU DON'T SEE IT THERE, THAT'S WHY
  3. To all you Barbie and Papa Nolan fans, the Top 100 Warner Bros. Movies countdown is happening and going on strong, with us now at #86 on the countdown. Feel free to look it over, see what some of BOT's faves are, and throw a few likes my way
  4. #86 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 481 points, 9 lists "Dark and difficult times lie ahead. Soon we must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy." Box Office: 896.8M Rotten Tomatoes: 88% Metacritic: 81 Awards: 1 Academy Award nomination, 1 BAFTA Award, 1 Kids Choice Award, 1 Teen Choice Award Roger Ebert's Review: "With this fourth film, the Harry Potter saga demonstrates more than ever the resiliency of J.K. Rowling's original invention. Her novels have created a world that can expand indefinitely and produce new characters without limit. That there are schools like Hogwarts in other countries comes as news and offers many possibilities; the only barrier to the series lasting forever is Harry's inexorably advancing age. The thought of him returning to Hogwarts for old boys' day is too depressing to contemplate." Its Legacy: Gave us Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort. Kickstarted the career of Robert Pattinson. Led to a Wyrd Sisters lawsuit. The second film in the series to be released in IMAX. The first Potter film to win a BAFTA. The only Potter film to win the Kids Choice Award for Favorite Movie. Gave Gary Oldman a paycheck. Commentary: Considered one of the best Potter movies based on one of the best Potter books (well I actually don’t know if it’s considered that. I just think those things), this fourth entry really had it all. Thanks to the Triwizard Games plot, we have a movie with tons of iconic setpieces and thrilling sequences abound, while also featuring the cast developing as teenagers. Their older age not only allows Radcliffe and co. a chance to show their improve acting crafts, but also means they get to grow up, deal with new challenges, and make the Steve Kloves script just a tad more richer and developed. To say nothing of the new cast members. There’s Brendan Gleeson as the delightfully crazed Mad-Eye Moody, Miranda Richardson as the snoopy reporter for The Daily Prophet, and even baby Robert Pattinson, long before he became a teen heartthrob, arthouse darling, and every auteur’s favorite dude. Oh, and we finally see Voldemort, at least the noseless version, performed by the one and only Ralph Fiennes. It’s one of the most important films in Potter history and is a huge fan-favorite. That’s more than enough for this to reach the top 90. Please donate to SnapCo. Trans rights are human rights. https://www.snap4freedom.org/about
  5. #87 Arsenic and Old Lace 480 points, 8 lists "And I'm not a cab driver, I'm a coffee pot!" Box Office: 4.8M Rotten Tomatoes: 85% Metacritic: N/A Awards: N/A Roger Ebert's Review: N/A Its Legacy: Definitive version of the classic stage play. Cary Grant's most divisive performance. One of only two films Frank Capra did for Warner Bros. Ranked #30 on AFI's Top 100 Laughs. Part of the Criterion Collection. Gave Priscilla Lane a paycheck. Commentary: A masterclass of dark comedy, this Frank Capra classic is the perfect blend of morbid and hilarious, with a farcical premise that is reminiscent of Capra screwballs, notably You Can’t Take It With You, but avoiding any heavy-handed messages and social consciousness. And frankly, it’s all for the better. Not only is Cary Grant delivering great work, with tons of overacting and mugging that is hilarious to watch, you have the two murder-loving aunts, Josephine Hull and Jean Adair, who bring a more down-to-earth portrayal despite their villainous acts. With Grant being the goofy straight man surrounded by sickos who play things straight, there’s your comedy right there. The movie seamlessly handles multiple tones and jarring shifts, allowing for a macabre, yet still engaging and hilarious comedy caper that is an underrated, yet beloved piece of Frank Capra canon.
  6. So what's y'alls favorite Drake and Josh episode? The episode where they bet over video games and junk food is probably mine. The episode where they performed The Blues Brothers was also iconic.
  7. I'M A BARBIE GIRL IN AN OPPY WORLD I don't know about you, but this year’s been a rough one. If we're talking box office, films are bombing left and right. And the few hits we do have, Mario aside, aren’t as big as they could have been. A good chunk of audiences are staying away from theaters forever, and the out of control budgets are making it hard for today’s current audiences to support the newest blockbusters. With the industry suffering from the aftermath of the streaming wars and strikes occurring amongst writers and actors, there’s no real sense to be optimistic about the business and its future. However, there is one weekend this summer that promises to, at the very least, be memorable. On July 21, 2023, two different movies are set for release. Both are hotly-anticipated pieces, both not the same old same old franchise fodder, and both being exciting, auteur-driven pieces with massive ensemble casts that star all our faves and taking influence from some of our favorite films of all time. These are the films that are expected to chart a new future for the industry and in turn both save the summer and the box office in general...you know, before it crashes and burns and we all wonder how the industry will survive a few weeks later. On July 21, 2023, we have two combatants. The first, and most high-profile one, comes from Mommy Greta. Barbie, based on the most iconic toy ever made, became an Internet phenomenon the second the first behind the scenes photos came in. With both Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling looking like the perfect actors for the part, the trailers, reminiscent of Jacques Demy and The Truman Show, only further wet people’s anticipation. This isn’t just a nostalgic toy commercial. This is a nostalgic toy commercial with self-aware comedy and with openly tongue-in-cheek and satirical content about what it was. It also boasts the incredible talents of Gerwig's screenwriting and visual direction and a cast consisting of all our faves. With great gags, iconic looks, and a "fuck the patriarchy" message that is always necessary, everybody’s been talking about this one movie and memeing it up like crazy. And in the other corner, Papa Nolan has left his Warner Bros. home and joined Universal to give us the incredible story of Robert Oppenheimer. And crazy enough, with Barbie being a WB joint, he is combating against his former home. Funny how that works. Oppenheimer details the story of the creation of the atomic bomb and promises groundbreaking visuals, epic scale, powerful storytelling, and incredible IMAX tech wizardry to bring in his already established fans and the older viewers who have abandoned theaters sans Top Gun. This too also utilizes all of Nolan's talents as an auteur and has a cast featuring all of our faves. Sure enough, despite being polar opposites and despite both movies being "risky" prospects (let's be real, a Barbie movie ain't that risky), people are beyond excited for both movies. It's a rare point where instead of people taking sides or fighting over which one is better, there's a communal excitement to see both movies and celebrate them for their quality and individuality. And sure enough, there are plans for some to enjoy a double feature, with watching both movies on the same day. Tracking for these two is “sky is the limit” type shit. In particular, Mommy Greta could very well have one of the biggest box office openings ever, which nobody saw coming going into the year. At the very least, everybody’s getting ready to see at least one of these two, which will set us up for an exciting weekend that will lead to a lot of laughs, a lot of memes, and a lot of meltdowns. That's not even mentioning all the other question marks this weekend will have. What is Dead Reckoning's second weekend going to look like? Will Sound of Freedom rise yet again? How high will Indiana Jones fall? How low will Elemental drop? No matter what happens, we’re gonna have a ball...that is, if you behave yourself and don't be an annoying party pooper. So let’s at least try to make this fun, okay? And not make things a drag? How do you make it fun? Well... 1. ABSOLUTELY NO SPOILERS. THIS INCLUDES SPOILERS UNDER A SPOILER TAG. This also applies to every other movie currently in theaters and every new movie/show recently released on streaming. So no Dead Recknoning spoilers, no Sound of Freedom spoilers, no The Witcher spoilers, etc. 2. GOOD VIBES! Big weekends like these are supposed to be fun. So don’t be a party pooper and ruin things for everybody. You don't have to fight others who have opinions different than yours, you don't have to make fun ofsomebody for not knowing the nuances of box office IMs. It's all just silly fun, so don't make it something it's not. 3. THE REPORT AND IGNORE BUTTONS ARE YOUR FRIENDS. And lastly... 4. DON'T BE A DICK We good? We good. Now... WITHOUT FURTHER ADO LET'S DO THIS SHIT
  8. #88 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 474 points, 10 lists "What a beautiful place... to be with friends." Box Office: 977.1M Rotten Tomatoes: 77% Metacritic: 65 Awards: 2 Academy Award nominations, 2 BAFTA Award nominations, 5 Saturn Award nominations, 1 Hugo Award nomination, 1 MTV Movie Award and 5 nominations Roger Ebert's Review: "As we approach the end of a decade of Harry Potter, it's clear how wisely (and luckily) the studio cast the series. Radcliffe, Grint and Watson have grown from children to young adults, still retain the qualities they had when younger, are practiced professionals and carry the series. They are surrounded by a supporting cast that's like an honor roll of recent great British actors." Its Legacy: Began the finale of a generation. Kickstarted a trend of 2-part movies that is still in effect today. Became the third-biggest movie of 2010 and the third-biggest movie in the Harry Potter series. Gave Alan Rickman a paycheck. Commentary: Finally, we’ve reached the Boy Who Lived, one of the most important figures in the WB canon, for better or worse. Starting the trend of 2-part movies that nobody really actually likes, the final chapter of Harry Potter needed to be two epic movies in order to satisfy the fans who had been supporting this franchise since day 1. And both films would serve as total opposites to each other that, when combined, led to the ultimate package. In Part 1’s case, the film was a very character-driven piece. A film that was designed to focus on Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Their dynamics, their growth over the course of each movie, the emotional connection they have with each other and within themselves. It’s all explored through moments that are more low-key, though there’s still plenty of special effects sequences and fun action sequences. It was a great package all things considered. Not only was it a great feature to enjoy on its own, not only was it a beautiful film for fans who grew up with these characters for a decade, but it was the perfect appetizer for the main course that everybody was excited for just a few months later. But did it reach the top 100? Well...just gonna have to wait. Please donate to the National Center of Trans Equality: https://transequality.org/

  10. I had no idea there were so many Lego movies made. I just thought it was the ones that came out in theaters. It's no wonder people got burned out by the time The Second Part came out.
