  1. This is also a big problem. They gave zero hook for this new one outside of just more Ethan Hunt antics. Fallout's stunts alone got tons of promo and hype as being the most incredible achievements in stunt history. Dead Reckoning had nothing. If I wasn't already a fan of the series, I would have no reason to check out this seventh movie of a series that looks more of the same. It didn't even have the "Tom Cruise says you can only see this in theaters or else" advertising TGM did.
  2. Same reasons I said last year when everybody expected an increase: TGM has an easier barrier of entry. All you need to watch to see Top Gun 2 is one movie to get what's going on, and the film is even designed and set up where you don't even need to see the original. Mission Impossible has gone on for six movies now. Six highly successful movies that already have their own fanbase. At this rate, you know if you like these movies or not and if you're invested in the new one. If this was Oblivion 2 or even Jack Reacher 3...well, it wouldn't make the same money as TGM, but it would still see a big increase. My parents loved TGM, but they aren't going to sit down and watch six more movies for a seventh title. It's like going into season 6 of Walking Dead or Lost or something, completely blind. Why would anybody do that? I know these movies are largely standalone adventures, but that's a hard perception to get out there. And if the commercials and trailers for the other movies didn't get them interested in a watch, why would they do it for this? (Plus older viewers don't go to the movies anymore. TGM was the exception, not the rule)

  4. CJohn is just doing his tired old schtick. Just ignore him and he’ll realize he’s acting like a goober eventually
  5. Nah. The Disney Vault was a trash system and those artificial scarcity tactics were the worst as a kid. We don't need this back.
  6. I mean...no? 90.6M off an 18M budget, 5 times the cost to make it, is still a success and a good return on investment. Obviously not the same as the first movie, but nobody lost anything on this. Probably nobody. These movies are inexpensive, the last film still did okay, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson still have pull as producers. It's not that big a mystery.
  7. Got the trailer for this in front of Indiana Jones and I totally forgot there was a Greek Wedding 2. Came out the same day as Batman v Superman of all release dates.
  8. Well, if you really want to deal with 5+ pages of endless back and forth, endless concern trolling, fanboy war battles, and everybody being miserable afterwards, I guess I can't stop you. But when you and others start complaining about how annoying the conversation is going, just know that this is what you wanted. And I hope you're happy with it.
  9. Moderation Not doing this “is Elemental a hit actually” stuff. Too early in the morning for this, and we all know it won’t lead to anything productive. If you really want to argue this, you can do it in the Elemental thread
  10. I mean it’s not wrong, but comparing 250M to 1.45B is kind of funny.
  11. Moderation We don’t need to insult @pryda for their posting style. It’s not nice.
  12. Old white guys don’t go to the theaters anymore. Top Gun is the exception, not the rule. And those that are already spent their money on Indy and/or Sound of Freedom, or will spend it on Oppenheimer. And the box office is so terrible that it can’t support multiple hits. This all spells bad news when a huge audience sector is watching these at home now.
  13. Moderation This is about tracking first and foremost. If you want to talk about Greta Gerwig and her career trajectory and whether she should get a DC movie or whatever, take it to somewhere more appropriate.

  15. I mean I feel the laws of physics being broken is part of the whole charm for Fast and Furious and Mission Impossible? These are designed to be goofy action movies and have ridiculous, over-the-top shenanigans. And at least in M:I's case, they actually shoot these ridiculous stunts through as many practical effects as possible. I dunno. It's like saying Jurassic Park has too many dinosaurs or something.

  18. Moderation We're done with this "are Indy 5/Mission Impossible 7 bombs actually" argument. I know it's going to end with us talking in circles and I don't want to wake up to a giant mess. And as a reminder, if some of you don't like certain users or their posts, you can place them on your Ignore lists, so you never see their posts and aren't tempted to respond to them.
  19. Not to be mean of course, but this was published at 8 PM EST. Feel like it's a little silly to extrapolate anything this far out.
  20. Mission Impossible numbers will go in here with the other weekday numbers. Just makes things less cluttered and confusing.
  21. Just to clarify to people that, yes, the countdown is still coming. It's just taking longer than I expected to tabulate all the results, and my retail job means I'm far away from my computer for most of the day. However, I have four lists left and I have the day off tomorrow, so I should thankfully be near the end. The goal is to publish the thread sometime this weekend.
