  6. Not speaking for everybody, but my predictions for Indiana Jones doing 500M is not a case of "oh it has to save theaters" or that because TGM did it. It just has a lot of strong factors behind it. It's Harrison Ford back in his most iconic role, a strong creative team, a solid pre-Fourth of July release date, nostalgia towards a super iconic IP, the Disney machine behind it, and the whole "oh noes Crystal Skull was bad" argument doesn't hold any water because there's been a long gap between installments. It'll be 15 years since that last movie. That's certainly enough time for people to have the bad taste out of their mouth and for a new nostalgia cycle to start again. If Force Awakens can get to nearly a billion despite the prequel trilogy backlash, I think 500M isn't a tall order. And hey, even if it just does ~450M, I'll also be a super happy camper.
  7. I know ERC sucks, but they had the perfect strategy when it came to making movies play longer. Keep films at their normal price, and then after like they drop down a certain threshold, move the price down to $3-5 a ticket. You keep the premium prices for people who will see a movie right away, it helps boost attendance for films, improves legs, and the longer a movie plays is when the theaters get a bigger share anyways, so it's not like the studios are missing much from the ticket price downgrade. It also helps incentivize buying concessions since the prices are lower. Seems like the perfect solution.

  9. Just a reminder that you still have a few hours left to submit your minimum top 5 for the Coen Brothers Countdown. Feel free to join and support the guys who made classics like Fargo, Big Lebowski, and Inside Llewyn Davis, among other features.
  10. When I saw Dune, there was a whole group of 14-year-olds who were clearly only there to see Timothee and Zendaya, since that was all they ever talked about before the movie started. I don't know how they felt about the movie, but they were probably upset Zendaya was only in the film for 15 minutes lmao
  11. Well I have tons of faith in Indy being good. There's way too many talented people behind and in front of the camera and way too much pressure for this not to be another Crystal Skull that it will at least be a fun time. Plus unlike the usual "it's a finale but not really because the franchise will come back again" (Guardians 3 and F9 will do the whole "end of an era" thing, which will be hilarious in about 8 years), they are dead set on this being the final movie and Ford's last rendition of the character. That's already an amazing hook that will get even skeptics willing to come out.
  12. I think it's that main character change that will be the impetus for its success. Halle's casting is infinitely more interesting than if they got Sadie Sink or whoever. It's an exciting change that keeps this movie fresh, but not too different since we're getting the original songs and storyline, and it's exciting for a demographic that don't normally see themselves in this kind of role. Before Little Mermaid, the last Black princess story we got was Princess and the Frog and before that...that Cinderella TV movie with Brandy. This has been long overdue and will get people in seats. I am beyond tired of these stupid remakes and even I'm probably going to catch Little Mermaid just because I want to see Halle pull it off and support her work. And judging by some of The Quorum's metrics and reactions from some friends, that teaser trailer really started this movie on the right foot. Things are shaping up great for the movie IMO.
  13. Also The Little Mermaid won't be hit by the "anti-wokers". They have no power on a movie's success or popularity. If anything, I'm confident that it could rank second for the year, only behind Indiana Jones.
  14. I mean...yeah. Apart from Strange and Panther (please don't start a debate on how they actually underperformed, I don't want to read that), Love and Thunder was considered a critical and commercial dud, Lightyear and Strange World are the biggest bombs ever for their respective studios, the only 20th Century films that did above expectations were Barbarian and Bob's Burgers, which had basically the absolute floor for expectations. I guess Searchlight ended up okay since The Menu's doing solid business and The Banshees of Inisherin will probably reach 10M. The latter's not good compared to what awards fare did pre-COVID, but sadly we're in a world where audiences hate movies that aren't just toy commercials, so take what you can get. Even so, there's no obvious huge winner, even if I think Strange and Panther did solid (again, not trying to start an argument, don't even try). All the other studios had something big to crow about except Disney...well, at least until Avatar drops next week.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-25 and Counting Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold TOTALS 0 73 479 11535 4.15% Total Seats Sold Today: 155 Comp 0.333x of Sing 2 T-25 (3.24M) To clarify, Puss' Early Access numbers tally up to 467 tickets. And compared to Sing 2's 1,408 tickets, that's...0.332x of the film's 1.6M gross. So...531K. Early Access is always faulty and hard to determine when it comes to final opening/final gross, but I think it shows, at least now, that it's not as anticipated as Sing 2 at the moment. Could change of course!
