  1. I didn't really care for the film, but I feel the biggest issue with Newark was mismarketing and a bit of a failure to understand what people wanted to see. The ads hyped up this up as a look at young Tony Soprano like the movie was all about him. But instead it's largely on characters who never appeared in the show on the first place while Tony's just a side character who we barely follow. This would be like if the Sex and the City movie was from the perspective of Mr. Big instead of Carrie and the rest of the women. It's just going to lead to only hardcore fans getting into it and a lot of casual fans and newcomers disappointed.

And while I tried to add in some adult-centric tentpoles, those aren't very good either. It'll probably be a real hazy cloud until we add in more horror comps the weekend of. But honestly, this seems really, really good. While a decline should still happen, so far things don't indicate any major drop, which is above my expectations. Even before the pandemic I was feeling 35M or something for its opening. Really thought the new one had no hook since the last one was all focused on nostalgia, but I'm glad to be proven wrong here.

  4. This was alright. It was basically an extended episode of the show, even down to a lot of plot threads that feel unresolved. Of course, at the same time, there's nothing wrong with an extended Sopranos episode, and there's a lot of great character moments in here. The big sticking point though is how muddy and washed out the cinematography is, particularly in the nighttime scenes. It's a real stark contrast to how gorgeous the show was back then.
  5. Well, we have something to talk about. There's also numbers from the holdovers, Addams, and Newark to chew on.
  6. No spoilers, but the Craig films work best if you see Casino Royale prior. And either way, Casino Royale's one of those movies that's so amazing that it's good to watch whenever. Easily my favorite of the Bond films I've seen so far.

  8. Well now we don't have anything to talk about since we already discussed and argued over Bond predictions.
  9. So it's almost 5 on the East Coast and we have a potential 90M+ opener, but Deadline just...doesn't want to update the numbers? Do they not want clicks on their website? This is garbage!
  10. Barbara Broccoli said they weren't planning to do any streaming shows or spin-offs with the new Bond titles. Of course I'm still not convinced she'll keep to her word. You know Bezos is breathing down Eon's neck to make a Moneypenny show for Amazon or whatever.
  11. I mean folks like keyser have their presales data looking fairly spread out from day to day, and all us trackers have seen strong data for the movie. I have a lot of concerns for future adult-oriented releases like Last Duel or Gucci or West Side, but I feel confident in saying Bond will be the exception to the rule for this demographic, and less than 70M and/or less than 9x preview:OW ratio would surprise me at this point.
  12. Got the Fandango notification that Halloween Kills ticket sales are up. Before folks ask, yes I'll be tracking the long-term.
  13. Just because it's getting a lot of marketing doesn't necessarily mean that the marketing is effective. If anything, it could be a case where Disney sees internal tracking not being so hot and are just spamming more ads to try and boost awareness and interest.
