  1. By DEC 27 ? It's possible. I expect it to be in 5th place for 2022 by the end of next weekend. Somewhere between $788-$938 million.
  2. I wonder if that absolutely tone deaf press conference in Japan with captive dolphins on display had anything to do with it. The marketing team behind that needs to be fired, I can't think of anything more anti-Avatar than that, perhaps if they had some whales also....that might have something to do with it. I have a hard time believing that Cameron approved this and more than likely he was fuming behind the scenes.
  3. 4 time multiplier $536 million and a worldwide total in the $1.8 Billion range?? 30/70 split. Very strong word of mouth and the upcoming holiday weeks could drive numbers higher.
  4. I always check to see who is the primary company handling effects, WetaFX is always a great sign that the CGI is going to be at the very cutting edge and top quality.
  5. Before hitting the panic button, let's compare the weekly domestic $$ of WoW against Avatar 09. We already know it's going to beat week #1 by a decent margin however will it maintain a similar level in week #2? If week #2 drops something like 50-60%, it's over, they'll finish Avatar 3 and that will be the end of it. Like Cameron said weekend #3 will determine the future of this franchise. 6. We didn't see much of her (General Ardmore) or Bridgehead but I think the story for 3 will focus a lot more their primary goal of colonizing Pandora at any cost.
  7. Thursday previews being reported at $17 million for Domestic by comparison from Boxoffice Pro AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER Studio Reports: $17.0M Thursday Domestic Previews $50.4M International 2-Day Total
  8. Stop feeding or taking the bait from the obvious trolls in this thread, you know who they are.
  9. Zero tolerance policy is now biting them in the ass, full lockdowns do not work.
  10. I got back from seeing this and WOW! just fucking WOW!!!! This is Cameron & Team at FULL power, there are elements from all of his movies in Way of Water. Some of the sequences were unbelievable and that final act (holy shit), no one does action like Cameron, NO ONE. This movie got my adrenaline pumping big time and I'm an old bugger, also my tear ducts still work...... Out of the theatre rating: 5/5
  11. After watching the 16 minute extended version of Avatar last night as a warmup and memory refresh I'm finally off to Pandora to experience this thrill ride of a movie. Finally!!!!!
  12. Still advertising during the World Cup..... Question for those who've seen the movie: Is there a mid/post credit scene?
  13. I'm going to XX this out as a potential viewing option, I keep hearing very mixed/mostly negative things about this format.
  14. Looking at ticket sales for my primary theatre vs Black Panther for Thursday to Sunday IMAX: Avatar 11 showings - 3,143 tickets sold out of 4,576 available seats = 68.7% IMAX: Black Panther 15 showings - 2,899 tickets sold out of 6,240 = 46.5% ScreenX: Avatar 419 tickets sold - Black Panther 430 Reg 3D: Avatar 249 - BP 298 Regular 2D: Avatar 39 - BP 1,187 the regular 2D sales for Avatar are practically non-existent I expect this pattern to repeat for the other two theatres I'm tracking.
  15. Remember back in the good old days, pre Nov 1/2022 when we were lamenting the so-called lack of marketing for Way of Water?? well the tour wrapped up yesterday to what has to be easily the most $$$ spent on marketing for movie since pre-pandemic times. Look who finally showed up yesterday in L.A.
  16. Avatar: The Deep Dive - Special Edition of 20/20 on ABC - Dec 13 @ 10:00pm Eastern https://abc.com/news/insider/watch-avatar-the-deep-dive-on-abc-and-the-abc-app-hulu Watch 'Avatar: The Deep Dive, A Special Edition of 20/20' Tuesday, December 13 10/9c By Jim Donnelly Dec 6th, 2022 ABC News announced "Avatar: The Deep Dive, A Special Edition of 20/20," a new primetime special edition of "20/20" that features exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the powerhouse film franchise through the eyes of legendary director James Cameron. In a revealing interview with ABC News contributor Chris Connelly, Cameron recounted the world's reaction to the first-of-its-kind film "Avatar" more than a decade ago, his challenges making the highly-anticipated sequel, "Avatar: Way of the Water," and his plans for three additional installments. The one-hour special also includes interviews with stars Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet and Stephen Lang, who describe their experiences working with Cameron and the signature motion-capture technology. Weaver, who is returning as a new adolescent character, explains how it felt to play one of the youngest characters in the sequel and how she tapped into her own childhood for the role. Academy Award® winner Kate Winslet talks about her long-awaited reunion with the director and why she was eager to join the project, playing one of the leaders of an undersea Pandora clan. In rare behind-the-scenes footage, the cast is seen undergoing months of intensive free-diving training with renowned free-diving expert Kirk Krack to give full underwater performances. more information in link
  17. My final prediction based on everything we know so far. Opening Weekend (DOM): $180,215,400 Final Domestic (4.5): $756,905,000 International: $1,610,000,000 China: $650,000,000 Total: $3,016,905,000 12/16/2022 Avatar: The Way of Water $167,000,000 – $192,000,000 +9% $662,000,000 – $861,000,000 +9% Disney / 20th Century Studios
  18. Now I'm scared...that means the sequel has shifted enough in tone to win over a hater (of the 2009) which means it might turn off a few lovers of the original or not. Still nice to see it made her list for Best Movie/Director and most encouraging of all Screenplay. I expect WoW to clean up all awards related to the tech side. As annoying as I tend to find her, she does have 137.5 K followers on Twitter and 944K Youtube subs.
  19. Jon Landau drops a major spoiler about Avatar 5, if 4 is supposed to be a MF'er of a movie, 5 is going to get really weird if this happens. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2022/dec/09/avatar-the-way-of-water-sci-fi-franchise
