  1. that strip club scene was more funny than sexy; it wasn't a hard R. i don't know what kid (maybe pre-school) would be traumatized by that movie, but nowadays...
  2. when i say fake IMAX, i'm not even talking about the LieMAX that most IMAX theaters have even with real footage. i hope that IMAX laser is cheaper to shoot than 70mm so that more films will use it and more extensively in the film as well.
  3. so people are basically watching fake IMAX for the bigger screen and the bigger sound. understandable, but not worth the premium for me. IMO the real IMAX footage can make a difference, not just in effects but quality.
  4. corrected, but i don't think Deadpool was filmed with IMAX cameras for any of it, so i don't know why anyone would watch it in that format.
  5. i think Deadpool's success also played a part. For a hard R rated movie with a relatively obscure character (compared to Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Ironman) and limited marketing and substantially smaller theater count with no IMAX or 3D to pull in nearly 150M for the 4-day weekend was incredible. i don't know when it will happen again. but yes SH movies are unlikely to hit 200M OW or 500M domestic anytime soon, just because of the inaccessibility of the current ones (people still need to have watched the numerous previous films to fully appreciate the newer ones) and lack of branding/recognition for the original ones. maybe Batfleck's stand alone movie has a chance, maybe.
  6. no one's shocked, in either direction. maybe BKB but only for a while. 500m movies don't just happen; it's only happened 6 times in the last 20 years, and 5 times in the last 9. and there was no way that CW was doing less than 300m. maybe some people are shocked by around 100m for a mega blockbuster.
  7. it's about the same or a little more as taking the family out for fast food but without the eating. i hope people aren't trying to get their nutrition at the theater, i mean having one of their daily meals there (consisting of popcorn, nachos, candy and soda). many if not most families eat out (casual or fine dining) once a month or more (they don't want to cook, or it's someone's birthday, or maybe they just like eating out), and as someone mentioned before it is much more expensive, about 3-10x as much.
  8. for a weekend matinee, non IMAX, PLF or 3D (at $5 a ticket), about $30-$40 including food and gas. if you go in the evening, children and seniors will have a discount, but still about $10 more. so the range is $20 (i don't even bother with concessions as i don't like to eat and watch at the same time and viewing is more pleasant with an empty bladder) to $70 (IMAX or PLF 3D with concessions for everyone). not a trivial amount, but certainly not unaffordable for MOST families.
  9. and there are usually theaters not that far away for most people. and fast food restaurants galore, for people that don't want to eat in the theater (or sneak food or drink into the theater). also most theaters have unlimited popcorn and soda refills, so you only have to really buy one popcorn bucket for the family.
  10. is going to the movies really so expensive now that families and couples (the other large demographics besides younger single males) can't afford to go once a month? i don't really buy (no pun intended) that economics is the reason movie viewership might be going down, unless piracy erosion really is a thing and it could be. i tend not to go because nothing really grabs my interest (i have to be pretty hyped up for a movie to go), or because as someone mentioned before, only blockbusters can really bring in business as no one really feels a need to go to a theater for a small or mid budget film (and these are the films that don't need HD rips, which take longer to appear, to enjoy).
  11. but they'll still get there, unless all of those stand alone movies are disasters. i doubt it since those characters are very unique and comparable Marvel versions haven't been done yet (Cyborg might be considered an Ironman rip-off without the jokes). DC movies are harder to do right though; Aquaman could be very expensive to produce.
  12. hmmm... MOS BvS SS WW JL p1 Flash Batman solo Aquaman Cyborg JL p2 Superman solo? Batman solo 2? Green Lantern? Shazam? SS 2? Martian Manhunter? Plastic Man? they'll get there. of course by the time they get there, SH fatigue might really be a thing, and these movies might not be profitable, especially considering that DC characters are very overpowered and need very expensive special effects and/or CGI, which is why Batman/SS might have better returns, popularity notwithstanding. WW might use more practical effects, since she's lost her flying ability and superspeed for whatever reason.
  13. Excellent review. Very well thought out. Only one real spoiler in the video (which he warns about), but that part is critical to the point he's making. But this review is definitely for people who have already seen the movie. Even some people who didn't like the movie (cough, critics, cough) could benefit from watching the video, although most people probably won't change their mind about the movie. i will say that with even 100 viewings of the movie, i probably would have never come up with that profound interpretation on my own, at least not the way that he did. But thinking back on the movie, his interpretation makes perfect sense. As an aside, i wish i hadn't paid any attention to, or more specifically cared at all about the critic reviews. There was no need for me to go into the movie with low expectations. And i ended up watching the movie with a more critical point of view. For example, in a handful of scenes, i was thinking in the back of my mind, oh this is where some people might have problems with the movie. i generally never watch movies that way,and it led to a less enjoyable experience than it should have. In other words, screw the worthless critics. i suggest that if you have a great interest in a movie, just watch it. it is just a movie and it shouldn't really change your life either way. It might sound hypocritical when i just propped the above review, but i would say that reviews should only be paid more attention after you see a movie for different and sometimes also interesting point of views.
